We swapped lvg for mourinho and everyone cheered. This is always what it meant. It comes with lots of positives too.
If LVG staying meant Martial and Rashford continued their form I would've taken it. He would've left the next year anyway. We had the two best young attacking talents in the world at the time.

No one doubts he is replaceable. At the same time it’s disappointing because people have seen his good days and frankly he is one of the 2/3 players who can actually get you excited about our football in the last 4 years. He obviously has some issues that are problematic but there are enough evidence to frustrate fans in terms of how he has been handled. What’s bizarre is some elated fans who are somehow rejoicing at this development like it’s some sort of positive achievement.

Disjointed transfer strategy of the club resulted in us ending up with 3 starting left wingers (that's how the manager sees them) and no proper right winger. Pretty obvious we couldn't keep all 3 happy someone would have to go and it wasn't going to be Sanchez or Rashford. Worry is that this is still going on... reports would suggest the manager is more interested in yet another CB and possibly a Striker rather than addressing real ongoing issues at RW and LB. We need to start buying to address our weaknesses first and foremost..

Ah well, we'll still have Rashford and Valencia next year so buckle in.
That I dont mind, it's the fans who cannot see a fault with either but are quick to criticise players they do not personally like. No one escapes my criticism when deserved or praise for that matter, it's the fickle nature of others on here that gets on my tits.

After January we have.

  • He had a strop because he lost the number 9 shirt.
  • Had an affair with a x factor wannabe
  • His wife left him with his baby and started spouting all kinds of shit in the press
  • Attitude goes off a cliff after Sanchez signing
  • His new girlfriend started posting shit on Twitter about him being 'misused' out on the right
  • Played utter dog shit football
  • United confirm he's refused to sign a new contract
  • Agent confirms he wants to leave because we signed Sanchez
Too much unnecessary drama.
His appalling form for France at Euro 2016, losing his shirt number at United and his domestic problems with his wife seem to have conspired to send him in to a tailspin of sulkiness from which he's never recovered.

Despite his obvious talent, I'm not sure he has the attitude/mentality to make it as a top player.

I still think that if Martial was as good as he's made out to be, he would have made the right-wing spot his when it became apparent that Sanchez would be starting on the left. He seems to be forever whinging about being played out of position.

His decision making, even when in top form and before Sanchez had even been linked with us, was and is still very suspect.

It'd be hugely frustrating to lose him as he clearly has the talent, but I think he's one of those players that are happy to embrace the notion of 'the manager screwing them over' rather than concentrating on their own game. He's certainly done nothing to demand a starting place ahead of Sanchez, even with the latter being poor as well.

Won't forgive Mourinho for this TBH, we shouldn't have our best players wanting to leave, especially the young talent.

Probably for "his" best to leave and become a star somewhere else, I have no doubts with the right coaching he will become a big star.

Martial has talent and great potential. But l'm not convinced he has the ambition to fulfill that potential. Still, Martial is only 22. He still has the chance.

I am not bothered whether Martial remains at, or leaves United.

Even more so given we're not even at the front of the queue when it comes to buying young, talented attacking players.

These statements are always hilarious. If he does leave and we go on to win it all next year, will you still hold a grudge?

Meh, don't really care. Martial, Rashford, Pogba, Shaw, Fellaini or anyone else "upset" can jog on really.
I've been remembering back to the Fergie days where we would have a beast of a squad, jam
Packed with talent and players would have spells in and out of the team but nobody complained, everyone got on with it. All these pussies in our squad nowadays getting their agents to go crying to the media about this and that.. feck off.

This is our problem and has been for years, the attitude of our players fecking stinks. The amount of self entitled players we have is staggering. We've got Marouane fecking Fellaini playing ransom with us. As in, what the actual feck?

Now is the time to get rid of all the whiney twats so they don't spread their shite.
If you're 20 years old, inconsistent as feck, playing in 75% of Manchester United games and still feel the need to bitch and complain when you don't play, then please feck off..
I don't remember 50 million Bernardo Silva or 50 million John Stones amongst the other talent sat on city's bench most weeks bitching and whining every week or sulking on the pitch.
Liverpool have brought in Keita and Fabinho, how much do you wanna bet nobody out of Liverpool comes out bitching and complaining every week next season.

And I get the media do a lot of shit stirring too (Redknapp, hoddle on Rashford etc. Pogba stuff too) but the fact these players never come out and commit themselves to United says it all really. It'd be so easy to come out and say medias talking shite, I wanna fight for my place. But no, that's not what we get.
"Oh no I don't play every week, oh no the manager told me off, oh no the manager played me wide right instead of wide left"..
fecking soft cnuts.

fecking right.

I'll celebrate sure, but it doesn't mean I have to like Mourinho.

Anyway I have zero faith we will win next year unless our football improves, which I don't think Mourinho can by himself.

He's made a real mess of our squad planning IMO, he shouldn't have signed Sanchez unless he was going to play as a striker or RW.

The fact that Sanchez has been pretty rubbish and still gets played every match is quite grating, considering if Rashford/Martial put 1 foot out of place they get called out publicly.

I do think the point that we have too many 'soft lads' at the club constantly leaking stuff about not getting the treatment they would like or being played where they would prefer is a good point. Other clubs just don't seem to have the same problem with this, is it the managers disruptive personality or that we have just signed too many players with suspect attitudes ?

It's happened every season since Fergie left, connect the dots.

Pretty much all of the criticism of Martial is laughable.

If he leaves it will just be another Mourinho blunder like Salah, De Bruyne and Lukaku. Except this time it will be us rueing his mistakes and not Chelsea.

Shame. Has so much talent. Wish he was up there character wise. But he needs to obviously step up and learn how to be part of the team. He's not yet ready for the team to be centred around him.

On the flip side agents pressuring clubs in the media and exaggerating things leads to a disconnect between player and fans.
Very true and noticed his agent put in a buffer/disclaimer that if it wasn’t for the unconditional support of the fans Martial would have asked to leave earlier. Possibly trying to soften the blow, but majority of the fans have always supported him and been behind him.

This is typical agent mischief making in a bid to snag a pay rise. The lack of playing time claim is laughable. Martial in the league alone played more times than even Pogba.
Pogba has been for two months due to injury. Martial hasn't played enough but it's true that he hasn't been totally out of the team either.

It's a shame to lose him because he's obviously a talent, but it's an even bigger headfeck to lose him when there's no better option in our squad.. It's not like there wasn't game time to be had - it's poor squad management, and a firsthand look at why Jose has worked with, then lost so many talented players over the years.

If we get 30 million for him we'll be doing well.

And he hasn't been very good when he's been in it.
He has mainly been good and he hasn't been worse than every other attacker in our team, it's not great but we have a collective problem in that department.

A shame really. In his first season, he was almost always eveready to run at opponents at any given opportunity. Always with high intensity but during Euro and 2nd season he was pretty lacklustre compared to his 1st.

He was better last season but still thinks he lacked the level of intensity or eagerness. He had his moments like the goals vs Stoke and Everton, but like Pogba and perhaps the rest of them, there seems to be a hint of complacency especially in that away Leicester game. Really really unprofessional performance despite having the chances to really kill the game off.

The Jose Force Is strong in this one  About one thing is football related. So strong bias.

Let's not add Jose changing his shirt number being a direct representation of changing his position from a striker to a left winger. A role that does not get the best out of him - that probably made him more sulky. Also the fact that the manager himself is one of the most sulky managers available! Jose also has the everyone against us approach and he has slowly trying to push martial to the outside to make him more an enemy than a part of the team.

We will sell him and his grievances are obvious and have been talked about ad nauseam, read the thread and you will see them being pointed out over and over again.

No, it’s not. He genuinely wants to leave, you don’t go to press saying all this stuff if you don’t.

Lukaku aside, they're much-of-a-muchness. You could make a case for replacing any one of Martial, Mata, Lingard or Rashford this summer (at least the latter tends to perform in big games).

He was certainly better than Sanchez and on a level with Lingard and Rashford for sure across minutes played - people seem to forget they all had stinkers and often, also like Rashford he is still a young player.
I don't think he believes he is Messi or Ronaldo and neither do the fan boys. I would just like this to not drag on through the summer, hopefully we grant him his wish and sell him asap for decent money and continue our recruitment.

No doubt an offer of 12m pounds in three yearly installments is on the way from Juventus and Spurs.

:(

Doesn't surprise me, unfortunately.

He was on course for a place in the French WC squad until the arrival of Sanchez. He's not really been valued by the club.
you're right there chief; it's the 1st of many talented players to leave within the next 12 months, thanks to the Mourinho's ego factor.

All smacks of the unrest witnessed previously at Chelsea.

Please show Mourinho the door ASAP

How much did he play after February?
He got injured in early March and lost his place. 2 starts and 2 appearances from the bench after he got back into the team. He wasn't very good in any of those games.

There seems to be no middle ground in the thread. You are either a Martial fan boi and anti Jose, or a Jose lover. Could it not be that some posters support United and understand that the club will go on without Martial?
