correct not bitter at all. these days not only would that handball goal be disallowed but he'd have got a straight red. as for the second goal, the only guy I'm pissed of with is Peter Reid! All that season he'd hacked opponents down but just let Maradona; he was close enough to foul him early ha ha. oh and what does it matter if I was bitter? I do not have to bow to public opinion that maradona was even close to pele; just like I don't have to think Messi is close to ronaldoNot bitter at all.
One of the undeniable greats. Troubled individual off the pitch.

Oh come on guys, he’s just an old-schooler who supports South American solidarity...Like Spain as well because it has Koke
For me, part of being a great is also being an ambassador for the game. Or at least having dignity. In my opinion Maradona is a low-life yob not fit to be on the same page as Pele when we talk about footballing greatness. At what point does Maradona's post football clown show begin to detract from his football career ?
I generally prefer to avoid bringing a player's personal life into the mix but in Diego's case its sort of unavoidable when he shows up in front of the world coked up and behaving like a complete clown. Pele for the most part, seems to have done it the right way.For me, part of being a great is also being an ambassador for the game. Or at least having dignity. A bit old fashioned, I know. But that's how I feel.
For those that watched him, never. For those who didn't and can be influenced by off-the-pitch antics, I guess his legacy will eventually be tainted if the bad is presented over the good.At what point does Maradona's post football clown show begin to detract from his football career ?
The curse of his idolatry. Not enough around him with the feckin balls to intervene. I can't say for sure without being there, but I just imagine that if they tried and he resisted they leave him on his own... With the hope of some self reflection. Instead he's always got this posse hanging around.. Like you say, continually enabling. He's got addictions and people enabling him.
It'll kill him.
But I don't judge him and unless you've ever been addicted to something you shouldn't either.
I watched him throughout the 80s and can't seem to decouple his playing with this post playing antics. For those that watched him, never. For those who didn't and can be influenced by off-the-pitch antics, I guess his legacy will eventually be tainted if the bad is presented over the good.
Same for any player really - our own Roy Keane is a victim of it on this very site, whilst Best 'gets away with it' because what he did isn't spoken about in a negative light as often.
Of course he thinks that he needs to keep friendly with the Colombians so he can get his gear
Does anyone really care what this drugged up bloater thinks anymore?
Why?I watched him throughout the 80s and can't seem to decouple his playing with this post playing antics.
Can't get an erection though can he?I generally prefer to avoid bringing a player's personal life into the mix but in Diego's case its sort of unavoidable when he shows up in front of the world coked up and behaving like a complete clown. Pele for the most part, seems to have done it the right way.
They are separate in practice but not in perception since its the same individual. Why?
I see the two as entirely separate entities.
Aye, they both fall in the same category for me.I wonder if all of you spoke the same way of George Best. The man that ruined his liver and decided to take another man's which could have gone to someone actually deserving of it.
The curse of kings. The curse of his idolatry. Not enough around him with the feckin balls to intervene. Kill the idol. Save his life Argentina.
I’m conflicted on this. I’ve just had my Morrissey concert cancelled as some bellend was unable to separate his odious political views from ththe fact he writes a good tune, and organised a protest concert which led to Morrissey cancelling. Yet with Maradona I agree with you. So in short I suppose people will separate the art from the artist depending on personal investment. They are separate in practice but not in perception since its the same individual.
In a more extreme example, OJ Simpson in the US, was a famous US football player who had an incredible college and pro career, but then in retirement killed his ex-wife and a bartender. Few today consider his name as synonymous with being a great athletes- they instead view him as a murderer. The point being there are always going to be limits by which our memories of glories past are overrun by more recent events by the same individuals.
I think even that clown knows how to spell the country in question. What a fecking clown, also the Columbian manager complaining about Englands tactics ffs
Sorry, i just prefer that spelling lol, its not like you didn’t know what I meant, or perhaps it was a predictive text error but yeah call me a clownI think even that clown knows how to spell the country in question.
I'm not even getting into the alleged freedom of speech that Western Europe proclaims but it's only logical why celebs/artists side with the other side despite mostly having no clue on politics. Imagine having your performance cancelled because you think that one sorry politician is better than another sorry one.I’m conflicted on this.
