Haven't been impressed in maybe the 10 games ive seen of him. Is he really going to improve us that much?

How about we sign Sandro, with Shaw as back up and shift Young to RB, rotating with Valencia?

We might get a cross or two past the first defenders shins.

Well.. what are our current options for LB?

Currently we have a unfit and mentally broken Englishman who is not trusted by the manager, a aging former winger who can only use his left foot to stand on, a Argentine CB who is very prone to brainfarts and 2 footed challenges and a Dutch midfielder/defender who is slow as shit and might leave for Ajax.

So yes, i think a proper fit specialist for the LB spot will improve the team. I dont think he will be the player to make us win the league but its a good first step.

Basically he's not a world class left back but an improvement

I cant name many better left backs though.. Marcelo is better but Marcelo isnt the best defender. Felipe Luis is good but is he truly world class?

I really struggle thinking about more world class left backs.. i think Sandro is one of the better left backs out there.

Yep that has been my opinion for months. Sandro/Shaw on the left and Valencia/Young on the right. Dalot can play cup games he cant pressured to turn up for PL games first season in a new country.

I personally think Dalot will get a good amount of game time in the right back position throughout the season, therefore I don't think we'll see Young potentially blocking his path to the first team by moving from left back to right back.

As things stand, Young is still our best left back anyway. I have no faith in Luke Shaw whatsoever. Hope he proves me wrong of course, but I just can't see it.

Based on what?
To be honest, based on nothing other than my gut feeling.

I just feel that Dalot has the potential to play a part in the first team within his first season, potentially displacing Valencia at right back towards to end of the season.

We'll see!

Speaking of Valencia, is he still going to captain us next season? Or has the new captain not been announced yet? That could tell us a bit more about the role Valencia (and therefore Dalot) will play this season, IMO.

If Pogba decides the final on Sunday, could he be in for a shout? Feels like the World Cup has made him grow as a player and person. Otherwise give it to De Gea. I think being the captain can make him more vocal and improve on his weaknesses.

The basic feeling I get when thinking about left-backs is:
Marcelo is unavailable, same goes for Alaba. Azpilicueta won't be sold to us. I'd rather pluck my eyeballs out than watch Alba in the United shirt.
Random talents I think is fine when the team itself works, we're in desperate need of quality right now.
That leaves Alex Sandro.

If he is that good, why isn't he a starter for country or even 2nd choice?
Because they have Marcelo and Tite wanted a more defensive option in Luis to back him up. Also, Sandro didn't have a great season for Juve but that's more to do with off field issues than his ability.

Marcelo and Alves didn't play for the national team at the best point of their respective careers, either. So, that's a great argument.

Why do you think Marc Andre ter stegan is a non starter for Germany? Brazil has a manager who prefers experience. That's why Felipe Luis. Remember his time at Chelsea?

So, we have Jose as our manager.
He has demonstrated time and time again, then when push comes to shove, he does not trust even the most promising young talent (Martial, Rashford), to play and prefers to sub these guys in. And even when they were doing a pretty decent job, he went and bought Sanchez, to be first choice in that LW position. Martial is 22 years old, btw.
We also have Valencia, who is the MUFC captain and first choice RB. A man who Jose relies upon heavily.

Given the above, you have concluded that Jose will now give opportunities to a teenager in the RB position, who has about 8 first team appearances for Porto?

If this Marcelo to Juve rumour has any substance then it's just a question of where Sandro goes. I sincerely hope we are negotiating with Juve.

Surely there's absolutely no chance that'll happen. It's also the first I'm hearing of this rumour, any sources?

Nothing solid, but I could see Real continue the rejuvenation project if it means they'll get tons of money to then go after Mbappe and co.

I can see them selling players that aren't quite first team, but they can still get decent money for. Marcelo is the best LB in the world and is easily one of their best players. No chance they'll sell him imo.

I agree that he's the best left back in the world by a mile. I just wonder if they want to do a complete revamp of their squad while getting top dollar for their oldest players. It's a long shot of course, Marcelo probably has at least 2-3 top class seasons left in the tank.

This is the one player we are linked with that I hope we manage to buy this window, Young isn't nearly good enough and I don't see Shaw ever finding his footing under Mourinho. Sandro would give us top quality in a position we need and is of the age and experience that will be able to work under Mourinho.

Yeah I reckon they'll perhaps sell Kovacic as well, but apart from that they really shouldn't be changing the squad that's just won 3 CL's in a row too much.

Ironically Rashford has like 3rd or 4th highest appearances this season and Mourinho DID give Martial a chance especially earlier in the season, he just didn't take it. Let's not forget who handed McTominay his breakthrough season.

The problem is, Italians just landed Ronaldo in their team. It would take incredibly good offer in terms of wages to opt to quit Juventus. If one looks just at the footballing reason, which is to play behind Ronaldo or Play behind Sanchez than I fear its not looking too good for us.

Sure let's fecking talk about Jose and Martial all over again. Give it a rest people.

On topic, if Sandro is available We should be all over him. How many years have We gone without proper, quality fullbacks now? ridiculous. Dalot is still young so it's probably not a good idea to play him in every game.

Juve probably has to sell after the Ronaldo deal. We should be all over Sandro; an upgrade over Shaw and Young, while solving a pressing matter.

It's a no brainer to sign him. Frustrated that it hasn't happened in all honesty. I know Jose loves Young, but we need an improvement. Would also facilitate Young rotating with Valencia on the right and overall just give us more options at both FB positions working in Dalot and Shaw (if he can get his act together).

would be an improvement, but just think if it was going to happen we would have done the deal by now, unless its really just about playing hardball with the Darmain deal from either club. only thing with them needing to raise funds might get him a bit cheaper but on the other hand just means they don't have enough for Darmain. Young did a decent job last year but come on if we want to win things we cant be going in to next season with our full backs as 32/33ish who cant beat the 1st man with a cross.

I think we're going to leave signing a left back this summer, Young isn't perfect but he's serviceable and I know he's been guilty of it before but Shaw really has come back looking determined to be in shape. My feeling is that we enquired about Tierney but were told that he wouldn't be sold until next summer, so maybe we're just biding our time.

They don't and they won't

Rugani and Higuain will cover Ronaldo, FCA cover Ronaldo's wages. Juventus having to sell Sandro is a pipe dream
Thanks for the inside information. I'll stop thinking about Sandro now.

If we go into next season with Young and Valencia as our starting full backs we would be making things very easy for City to retain their title.
