"I need to go somewhere permanent, I think that's obvious," said Hart, who missed out on selection for England's World Cup squad.

"I did what I did in the previous two seasons because I needed to play to be involved in the World Cup - and look where that got me.

"I'm experienced, I've played at the highest level for a long time and done a lot of things in the game.

"I need to be an important player at that club and I think that can only happen with a permanent move.

"Of course, if I don't find a solution which suits both parties, I'm contracted to Manchester City.

"I need to do what's right for me and my family and that's the decision I'll be making. It's a tough one, but it's a situation which will be resolved."

Hart, who is going into the final year of his contract, knows if a move does not materialise quickly, he faces the prospect of a season in the wilderness but he is remaining philosophical.

"It's life, isn't it? We've all got our own lives that go on," he said. "Football is just a game. You deal with the ups and downs.

"It's difficult when you're on loan, especially when you're not a young player who people may have sympathy for.

"I'm older and being who I am and what I am, I'm there to be shot at, especially if I go on loan to a club that doesn't necessarily have a good season.

"I knew that when I went. I'm young. I feel fresh, I feel strong, I'm ready to go. And I'm ready to give a whole lot more to football. I want to play.

"At the moment I'm here and happy with how they've treated me. It's obvious what's going on."

Entering the final year of his contract at City and not wanted, so presumably available for pennies yet no one seems interested.

I can only assume his obvious high opinion of himself has deluded him into waiting for an unrealistic club or contract.

Anyone any thoughts on where he'll end up?

Likely a mid table. Chelsea would need a new keeper if Courtois leaves, though I can't see them stooping so low to make a move for Hart.

Remember how we were linked to Hart last summer as a replacement for de Gea. Would have been nightmare situation.

I don‘t get why he is so hated. I know it is funny to laugh at his mistakes because of his City connection, but at this point no one considers him a Man City player anymore.

I see no reason in laughing at a midtable keeper like Begovic or Butland when he makes a mistake. Everyone knows they are not great keepers.

It's because Hart genuinely thinks he is that good.

Also the years we had to endure "Hart is better than DDG"

The guy is an ass, couldn't even bring himself to watch England at the world cup because he was dropped (finally)

Played cricket instead (and lost)

He can feck off to obscurity forever. Not really sure why I dislike him, but I do. Not just because he is City scum.

Think a lot of it is his cocky attitude, especially when he was playing for England. Can't say I hold much ill feeling towards him either.

I'd imagine those links, like the Chelsea ones this year, are entirely the work of his agent trying to make him seem relevant still.

Stop whining to the papers and find a club, somebody must want Joe the LionHart betwixt their sticks.

“Football is just a game. You deal with the ups and downs.”
He seems pretty reasonable. I’d find it hard to deal with his change in circumstances, however rich I was.

He is just 31 and not a top 10 club is in for him.

What he said is correct though, going out on loan is just waste of time.

Btw, is thee any PL club who are desperate for GK? This is one position which is very hard. Clubs when they are happy with GKs, they rarely try to upgrade.

This guy do blunders and never recover.

That is his downfall. Top keepers do blunders and comes back stronger.

He can take Lee Grant's place at Stoke.

He would be a risk signing for any PL club at the moment. The same goes for all european top leagues. MLS it is then?

Joe Hart can be outstanding on his day. But he makes too many mistakes to be a truly top goalkeeper. I feel sorry for him.

hes unwanted for a reason, the guy cannot save low shots down to his left hand side at all. 2 seasons ago when he was told he wasnt wanted he should have went after a permanent move rather than loans. The 2 seasons on loan have been counter productive, maybe he stayed on Citys books to keep his wages as no one would offer him the same? Now he is suited for the Championship or backup keeper in the lower end of the Premiership.

I still remember the days where people were debating over Hart and De Gea. Some people actually thought Joe Hart as the better keeper... His stats used to be very good though to be fair.

How far has the mighty fallen... He was Head and Shoulders above all goalkeepers in the PL bar De Gea.

Championship level player at this point. Good thing is he can still make a killing there money wise.

His fall from grace is astonishing. I wouldn't say it's undeserved, but I'm surprised he can't even find a mid table team to take him on. Don't really like him, I do find it funny, but it is all a bit sad at the same time how quickly things can come tumbling down.

Bit surprised Pep doesn't get a bit more stick for this seeing as Hart was adored by the British press.

The British press adores Pep more though, he got a little bit of stick about it early on but as soon as it became clear they were gonna win the league the story became visionary Pep dropping a world class goalkeeper for tactical reasons and it paying off. That way they can have it both ways.

Joe Hart is a League One standard GK who due to being young, English, likeable (to an extent) and playing in a very good side at just the right time managed to carve out a career way beyond his actual level of ability

This is not just my opinion, the stats back this up and show that Hart makes fewer saves and more mistakes than other PL goalkeepers

Bah! He was one of the best players in the Manchester City side that won the league in 2012. Just because the press went ridiculously OTT doesn’t mean he wasn’t good.

His decline since then has been remarkable though, and must surely be down to his letting all the glorification go to his head. If he’d stayed focused and worked on his few but obvious weaknesses he’d be a lot better off now.

I do think it was a bit sad that he felt the need to live up to his absurd England’s Brave Lion Hart persona, particularly getting pumped up for the benefit of the cameras in the tunnel before England games. Not only did it make him look like a twat; it couldn’t have been helpful to the rest of the team who surely expect their keeper to be cool calm and collected.

He probably needs to take a step back and drop down a division to a club where he’ll have total backing from everyone. That way he can rebuild his confidence.

I can't believe he can't get into a prem team.

If not, maybe a trip to Scotland ?

It’s clear that it’s the wages he’s on at City that have stopped him from getting a permanent move elsewhere. His confidence is completely shot from this period, but he’ll recover to a ‘decent’ level in time. He’ll have a Paul Robinson/ Ben Foster-esque end to his career, doing well at a bottom half Premiership team.

I think it will take him a year or two to recover from everything that’s gone wrong since Pep came in though.

He flopped at West Ham. Cost Bilic his job. Moyes was made look like a football genius simply by dropping him and West Ham suddenly looked hard to beat again.

He hasn't left City because the likes of Aberdeen and FC Twente can't afford to pay 10% of his current salary to activate a loan deal.

They've signed Barkley and Drinkwater though. Who is their second keeper? Caballero?

I'd say being a bit crap is the bigger issue. He was clearly one of west hams biggest issues last season
