Man with no managerial experience appointed to a top flight club he played for when he could’ve had lower league jobs? Entitled twat.

Interested to see what type of football he’s about as a manager. Having played under Pep and Wenger in both their primes, he should be someone who would champion some very attacking football.

I have no idea if he’ll be any good or not but the hype around a guy getting a massive club job who has been a pretty poor pundit and a coach of a national team for a couple of years seems somewhat excessive. It all has the faint whiff of Arteta about it.

And worked under Martinez as well (obviously he’s not as good as those two, but he’s also a very attacking manager).

The guy has been arguably the best player in the entire PL era. Of course people are gonna be interested to see how he does as a manager. If the day ever comes where Ronaldo or Messi goes into management, or even a Xavi, the hype will be just as big.

Yeah that is true as well, especially as Martinez would have had the most recent influence on his thoughts as a manager.

Maybe he couldn’t have had lower league jobs because no lower league clubs were interested in him. His punditry isn’t exactly bursting with insight.

I think he'll do quite good actually. Will probably command a lot of respect in the dressing room.

I'm excited to see how this one goes. I'm all up for the romanticism of a player going on to sign to become manager of one of their former sides, especially when it was the one that that was their first club.

I think that he was an intelligent player who must have learned a lot under Arsene Wenger and under Guardiola. He seems to hold both highly as he speaks about Wenger in this article:
https://www.skysports.com/football/...ry-arsene-wenger-after-final-game-at-emirates

And Guardiola in this article:
https://www.skysports.com/football/...ow-to-play-football-again-under-pep-guardiola.

He could have taken the less pressurised route and gone to someone like Villa (if the rumours are true) but it took some guts for him to go to Monaco as his first job in management. I hope that he takes into account what he has learned from these managers and this helps him achieve great results on the pitch. In spite of being an Arsenal player he was one of my favourite player when growing up. Good luck Thierry

What on earth does this have to do with anything?
Overlooking Henry's obvious lack of managerial experience, he's experienced as an assistant for Belgium, played and learned under many top coaches, his player reputation has drawing benefits in terms of attracting players, has close ties with the club as a young player and any appointment of a black coach at the top level is a good progressive move.

I don't know. In the Monaco/Jardim thread a couple of people were saying similar only for me the contrarian to disagree.

The way I see it is that as a former player he'll have in-built good will towards him. Monaco are so far down the table that with the squad they have a clown could improve them and look good for a while when doing it. If things don't go quite as well as hoped or expected this season then you blame the former manager and say that you should be judged on a full season only.

If he doesn't do great at Monaco there still may be teams interested in hiring him in the future. A team like Villa might hire him after failing at Monaco, a team like Monaco wouldn't hire him after failing at Villa. It's League One or smaller Championship clubs than Villa are if you fail there.

Edit: And thinking on, if you do well at Monaco a European giant may want you. If you do well at Villa it's a lot less likely. Starting at a fairly high level seems so much better for your career whether you succeed or fail.

I still don't see where the color of his skin is relevant. Did you say the same thing when Monaco appointed Deschamps, Simone or Puel?

An inexperienced manager for such a young squad is a huge risk.

Very interesting indeed. Really nice to see players most of us grew up watching taking the suit now and managing important teams. Blanc, Deschamps and Zidane already became very good managers from that France '98 squad. There were plenty of leaders in that side and leadership is key in becoming a top manager.
