He wasn’t comparing us to Everton. He was basically saying that Everton and United both aspire and have ambitions to be as good as Barcelona. That’s how it reads to me.
Every club in the world has an ambition to be like Barcelona. Ive yet to meet a manager/club owner who loves to stick to mediocrity and wouldn't love to be the best. So stating the obvious won't get him any favours especially when he links us to a team which is clearly inferior to us.

TBH He's got this annoying way of sticking it into the wound while leaving some wiggling space for interpretation. He's quite creative in that. He should focus on football though. Not the past, not these clever digs, football. That's the reason why he's being paid for. Nothing more.

Oh dear.
Alright, I gave some thought to this quote and I think I got it.

So he's praising Everton buying Uefacelona's players and making that to be Everton wanting to reach Uefacelona's levels through those means. But we bought a player from Everton so we're actually trying to reach Everton's level, which are in turn trying to reach Uefacelona's level.

So in reality we're trying to reach Uefacelona's level through a proxy, Everton.

That's some 4D chess by Mourinho!

I think the same. There are so many things to discuss him regarding the performances on the pitch it looks a total waste of time and energy trying to make this sound he is saying United is on the same level as Everton. He isn't. He is praising their ambitions even if they don't get there.

If you look at Moshiri, the money he's spent in a short space of time, the plans for a new stadium, plans for future investment into the community and the Glazers, it's actually extremely generous to say we have the same ambitions as them. They've closed the gap on us in the last year or so and will continue doing so.

Someone should ask Mr Ardavan Farhad Moshiri what he would do if his manager keeps buying tripe at 30m-40m a pop or whether he would be happy if the manager asked for a 50m signing only to barely ever play him at all. That would be interesting.

While at it we might ask him if they consider taking back that donkey we've bought from them for 75m

His manager doesn't buy the players.

It took him a few months to put a structure in place with a director of football in place.

He's working on a new ground for them, the training facilities have improved, they are investing in the community around Liverpool.

Moshiri has done great there. He's very wealthy, they'll keep buying and improving.

We need to watch them closely because they could take our place in the top 6 in the next few seasons.

The manager suggest the players and we get them for him. Its not Woodward's fault that most players brought by Mou are shit. Its either the case of not being able to spot a talent when he sees it or else its a case of him not being able to use them correctly.

As usual, don't think there's much wrong with his pre-match comments. Usual digs at the board, far enough, don't blame him really.

Lets see how shit we play sunday.

I love reading your posts during these dark days mate!

By Mourinho's own admission he doesn't fancy partaking in player negotiations and he happily let's higher-ups to do that part, he only identifies his targets.

Idk if you're familiar with the history of Mourinho's clashes with DoF's in his former clubs?

So he will continue to start and play 90mins infinitum?
Lukaku 'playing' 90mins is paramount to being rested his movement is so limited.

Does he eat constantly between games?!

Also, is José sacked yet? Football worse than LVG, talking up opponents worse than Moyes. The man is a busted flush.

these digs are getting tiresome especially since our performances on the pitch had been dog shit for a long long time. I am all in favour for a good moan but jeez, he's managing to get on my nerves now and that does say something.

I would expect Mou to shut the feck up considering that Allegri owned him with a team which costed half of ours. There again, that's not quite surprising since Lampard was capable of basically doing the same with fecking Derby county.

There's nothing special in Mourinho anymore.

Agree Lukaku should be hooked if he continues to play as bad as he has, but now is not the time to drop him from the starting lineup when we're about to face his former team. Could take just one goal for him to get back on a run. HE had a drought in the middle of last season and then came good.

Mourinho asked about Lukaku
I always feel, I always feel that every game. One day will be and one day he will score and one day his confidence levels will be back to normal, which clearly they are not there but I always feel that.
That's funny, because i always feel that every bet i put on is going to win. One day will be and one day i might just win an acca and my confidence will rocket and then i'll lose it all again! Honestly! What a joke answer. Make something happen Jose! That's what you're paid to do!

Only concerned by DDG contract comments. Other comments by Jose was a message to the board so he can just feck right off. He failed big big time and still pointing his fecking three fingers to everyone but him.

Then what's wrong with changing our approach?
Changing the formation at a drop of the hat isn't magically going to make things better.

Or:

Everton want to be as good as Barca.
We want to be as good as Barca.

Mindblowing.

Guy's got a talent for giving cryptic messages that are open for interpretation, wouldn't you agree?

Now take into consideration how he's been praising boards/CEO's/scouting of other clubs recently, his constant complaining about the signings made and tell me you truly believe this quote has no hidden meaning ?

We aspire to be Eveton and can't play a 4-4-2 diamond despite having 3 more CM's sitting on the bench, ok then, on with the circus until we are mathematically out of the top 4 race and this will mercifully be done with.

Chill.

Firstly, we do have options. They may not be great but my point was that what we're doing now clearly isn't working so may as well change and try something else.

Second, I never mentioned Juve.

Third, we ARE going out to be defensive, that's clear to everyone (well almost everyone). That's clear from how we change tactics when results going against us... Newcastle, Chelsea, Juve all showed a clear change in attacking intent from start of game to end. We won one, should have won another ....

Finally, don't just lump people in with others and assume. Read my posts, you'll see I've been reasonably positive until very, very recently on Jose. Even now, I'm not saying he's rubbish and 100% to blame (as some do, say Mick321), I also blame some players (posts are clear).

BUT I also blame Jose for tactics, not playing players in best position/formation and for persisting with Lukaku and Matic regardless of form) and 433 (regardless of results).

I've seen loads of United managers, huge changes in our success (or lack of it, including a relegation). I don't jump on managers instantly, I try and be supportive and balanced so don't dive in and assume from one post.

Do I want Jose to stay? Probably not now as don't see him changing anything. Am I on seventeen threads blaming him for everything? No.... but selecting players who are in awful form is costing us and sends a terrible message to squad players ("doesn't matter what you do, xxxxxxx is going to play").
With you 100% on all of this.

Opinion has become so polarised on here that it’s very difficult to have a decent discussion though. The increasing inability of the pro-Joses to “chill” isn’t helping at all.

Here’s a thing:

Maybe Jose is right about our scouting being crap AND he’s failing to use our existing squad properly? Why does it have to be one or the other?

Often. Not on this occasion though. The meaning is pretty obvious. He's praising the opposition, as almost every manager does/has done. I don't get the incentive to turn absolutely everything he says to dirt.

Well mate I won't try to change your mind, if you want to believe this has no hidden meaning despite being similar to the previous ones that had, that's your prerogative.

How is buying Uefacelona's rejects gonna get them to Uefacelona's level?

By his own logic we should have traded one of our players (Pogba) for 2 of Uefacelona's rejects (Mina and Gomes) in order to reach their level...

Imo people aren't annoyed with him taking having a go at Woodward, but he's doing that without taking any responsibility himself, which is rich.

You don't need amazing scouting to buy better than he and our club has done though. If idiots on here can spot players, there's no reason why a club our size can't.

One matchday Woodward needs to be dragged out of OT by an angry mob and shat on. Pretty sure @CA1 fella will be the chief defecator. My beef is how he's ready to let this circus drag on for 6 more months
