Delighted. I'm under no illusion that this will fix us but it is the first step if we do things right.

Sad it didn't work out for him, he's a great manager when in the right headspace. Hope he goes away and recuperates, rediscovers his spark.

Right decision for the club though. We needed this change, we were in danger of losing half our best players. No idea who we're getting in though..

I’m not getting my hopes up yet, we’ve bad appointment after bad appointment, and I can just see us making another.

We will have Zidane come in every one will go he won trophy’s at Real Madrid he can do everything ..... then slowely but steadily they will realise he isn’t what we need we need a coach! Some one who can work with these players and get them playing as a team.

Madrid under zidane where a fragmented team who new how to get results in big games! That isn’t what we need right now and I bet that is what we get ..... sigh!

We are, I think, still paying for moyes' decision to get rid of our entire successful backroom and replace it with his mates who between them hadn't won as much as a three legged race at sports day.

Aside from the style of football, he was on track until this season.

Europa League (UCL football) + League Cup
2nd + FA Cup Final.

I’d have snatched your hand off for that in 2016.

Fell off a cliff this year.

Potential candidates:
  • Marco Rose
  • Ralph Hasenhüttl
  • Erik ten Hag
  • Julian Nagelsmann
  • Pablo Machin
  • Lucien Favre
  • Leonardo Jardim
  • Zinedine Zidane
Hard to pick one.

Totally shocked about this.Knew he was done but not like this . Thought it would have been at least at the end of the season. But good riddance, said at the time we went for him that the mojo had gone and it as been proven it as.

Today is a great day.

I couldn't be happier when he was appointed, I genuinely didn't want anyone above him. It never really worked out in the 3 years though, the 2 trophies only papered over the dull cracks.

Jardim now please

Nooooo. Fecking hell. Too soon.

It's a shame how you treat your serial winner managers. I almost would have accepted a draw now if it meant he stayed. :(

Honestly, I find it hard to thank a man who dissed the club and its history at every opportunity to make himself look better. Threw players under the bus almost every press conference towards the end to save his own reputation and alienated half the squad. I thanked LvG, because he tried his best and was respectful to the club while he was here. But not this dinosaur.

I have a feeling the stalling of player contracts played a big part here.

I wished Moyes and LVG all the best...this guy, honestly don't give a feck how he does at his next team

Thank god lads...the future can look bright again!!

Now let's get rid of half that squad and get a DOF in

Bring back the old days!

I am sad it didn't work out, but from Sevilla onwards he was on borrowed time. His rant post match really disgusted me, to hear our own manager speak of our great club like that after his disgraceful approach to the ties. Now I just hope we can get on with restructuring the club, I feel like this is a big moment for our club's future as we'll move away from the belief that we "aren't a sacking club" and the belief that we should have a manager that runs everything. I am confident we'll move swiftly to get a team in place such as a DOF and a coach that will uphold the traditions of our club and of big clubs in general.

Predicted we would get rid of him once we hit 75% plus - what a day to be alive.

I’ll keep a picture frame of my Jose rant next to my bed.

Next stop - winning second referendum and getting Trump subpoenaed and all the ills of the past few years will be eradicated.

It’s a feeling of relief but, after the disappointments which followed the sackings of Moyes and LVG, I am not getting too carried away. This is a necessary first step but there is a huge amount of work to do.

As for Mourinho, he has been a huge disappointment. We got damaged, burnt out goods I’m afraid.

Additional thoughts

1. 3rd season syndrome does exist!
2. “In the interests of the club”, I wonder was this both martial and DeGea indicating they wouldn’t sign long term deals if Mourinho stayed

If that's what Gary Neville thinks, then I'm a little concerned. We probably should stay away.

Turning into the sort of club that we used to laugh at, third sacking in 4 years, sure Pogba etc are dancing a jig now they have their wish...maybe they will now actually do what they are paid to do....a disgrace the lot of them

I'd like Blanc but to be honest I'm so happy Mourinho's gone I don't really care who we give it to.
