Whoever comes in has free reign for the rest of the season. They can afford to be bold.

Bring in those out in the cold and the young players to freshen things up.
  • Give Dalot and Shaw extended game time at full back to see if they can be the long-term solutions
  • Give Bailly and Lindelof more than 1 game every 5 or 6 together to see if they can form a partnership
  • Persist with Matic to see if he can rediscover his best form
  • Give Fred a run of games to see if he can settle in the side
  • Play Pogba to see if it was Mourinho holding him back
  • Try Rashford, Martial and Greenwood as a front 3
De Gea

Dalot___Bailly___Lindelof___Shaw

Matic

Fred__________Pogba

Rashford____Greenwood____Martial

Then have a huge clear out in the summer. Free up some wages and bring in players that are young and hungry, not past their best.

Keep Smalling, Pereira, Lingard, Young, McTominay as squad players.

Sell Sanchez, Lukaku, Rojo, and Fellaini. I don't think they will ever be as good as you need them to be for where you want to be.

Valencia, Mata, Jones, Darmian and Herrera to leave when their contracts end.

I think whoever's in charge needs to get Sanchez and Pogba back to their world class best

Not sure why so many are giving up on Lukaku. Looks a player completely bereft of confidence, but we all know he can be a lethal striker.

Unless Sanchez suddenly turns world class again I'd only have him as backup, use Lingard as a squad option.

Look to rotate Pereira and McTominay into the midfield if possible, Matic down to backup unless he suddenly stops being shite.

Smalling, Jones, Rojo should all be backup/rotation options, same goes for Young, Valencia and Darmian.

Hopefully we can properly look at Fosu-Mensah and Tuanzebe next season, and maybe give some minutes to some other U23s this season.

This is the most exciting part. We could see a totally different dynamic.

I don't want to see Jones, Valencia, Matic or fellaini near a starting XI anytime soon.

And maybe Lukaku, Lingard, Young et al?

Or will the new manager be able to get these players playing more entertaining football?

My feeling (worthless as it is), is we need more technical creative players in midfield and attack that can also be utter bastards when required.

But for now, here’s to looking forward to a United game for the first time in quite a while!

The rainbow's end
De Gea/Dalot-Bailly-Smalling-Shaw/Matic-Herrera-Fred-Pogba/Martial-Sanchez. 442 diamond with Pogba where he presumably wants to play.

Or a system where Rashford/Lingard/Sanchez on the wings and Herrera in the midfield will apply pressing tactics in the attacking half with Martial upfront and Pogba as a deep lying play-maker.

I'd also be rotating Lukaku, Lingard and Greenwood up front until something clicked. Wouldn't mind seeing Lukaku get more mins on the right to see if that can break him out of his form.

The rot at this club is deeper than Mourinho and our next manager should not have to deal with the likes of Valencia and Young

I know the Matic inclusion is not gonna be very popular but I personally don't rate Herrera and we don't have a better option currently. I do think he'll improve his performances along with a number of our other players.

Most fans would be quite happy for the new manager to pick the likes of Dalot and Andreas and maybe even seek to give Greenwood and Chong a go. Yes we could get smashed in some games, but it would be fun to watch and ultimately wouldn't matter as this season is a hiding to nothing.

Play with some urgency and ambition and see what happens. The old 'go and have fun' mentality.

The important things are to keep Martial, Rashford, DDG and Shaw for next season and then beyond that.

DDG,

Dalot, Lindehof, Bailly,Shaw
Andreas,
Herrara, Pogba,
Mata,
Martial, Rashford

One thing I'd like to see?

Valencia stripped of the captaincy (well they could let him keep the ceremonial title of club captain but have no role on gameday) and Herrera given the armband. Not only can he speak English, but he has some fire and the right attitude.

I'd also like to see Herrera play week in week out - and I don't mean at CB. Bloody hell.... Thank God we sacked Jose

Atm Sanchez is injured. If he comes back we have a healthy competition.

I liked what've seen from Bailly and Rojo against Arsenal. They do make mistakes, but they're agile and fast, much more fun watching then Smalling or Jones. Lindelof hasn't done all season what the aformentioned did in one, IMO. I don't even have to build a case for Dalot and Shaw, when the alternatives are Young and Valencia.

Herrera does cut it as defensive midfielder, we still have Fellaini and Matic as backups in the squad. Under a more attacking manager, i think Fred will shine, as well as Pogba when he's been played on the left side. Mata should be fine there, should be make or break this season for him. Sanchez will come back, mind.

Apart from Lukaku and the injured Sanchez we have nobody else as central attackers. Personally i would both let free and have a proper go. What could go wrong.

Seriously? Herrera is a spineless cheat and you'd dispise him if he didn't play for us.

Nice work this is almost entirely what I had in mind.

Lukaku interchanging with Greenwood, literally every other game until one owns it!

Sanchez interchanging with Lingard, but maybe on 2-1 ratio

Martial and Rashford back to sharing games, as that seemed to work well.

I'd also find more time for Chong with us reverting to a 4-4-2 with Chong right, Martial left, Sanchez just behind Lukaku. Herrera and Fred providing energy in midfield. Sanchez and Pogba could share that AM role and Mata as a sub option as well.

Bottom line I'd be taking big defensive risks and the game would have to be a high defensive line. Our best qualities are quite obviously highlighted when we press high and counter quickly in numbers.

Training sessions would be significantly about counter attacking mobility and keeping the ball in their half. The work rate needs to go from one of the lowest to one or the highest. We need to make up for the lack of quality by burning energy and regularly swapping out players. Our squad doesn't have any stars who should play every game so we can afford to go full throttle most games.

I'd get the best defender we can get in January who has DM/ sweeper like qualities, speed and last ditch tackling as priorities and they would probably take Lindelofs position.

You think Roy Keane was an average player and a spineless cheat? Great comparison
I think that how opposition fans view a player means feck all. Maybe I wouldn't like Herrera if he played for someone else, but he doesn't.

You may as well keep Jose! Matic is a big factor of everything wrong at United. Slow tumescent and not enough energy.

Yeah but many of our players have been showing a lot worse than what they're actually capable of so far. I'm personally hoping Matic can improve along with a number of others. If we're stuck with Herrera week in week out then we really won't be doing much better imo. I think most people are picking him because he's played the least of the options in that position so far this season and it makes people feel like he'll be better, I just don't see it.

So now Mourinho has gone it'll give a ton of players who were in the dog house a chance again, who would you want playing week in week out now?

Mine....

-----------De Gea-----------
Dalot---Bailly---Lindelof---Shaw
-----------Herrera-----------
------Mata-------Pogba------
Lingard----Sanchez----Martial

Could be Fred over Mata and Rashford over Sanchez but essentially feck of Smalling, feck off Jones, feck off Matic and feck off Fellaini. Oh and feck off Lukaku
Couldn't have put it better myself. I would just replace Mata with Fred and Lingard for Rashers and you've pretty much nailed it. There's no reason why that lineup should be doing great thing. Imagine having a firing Sanchez, Martial, Rashford and Pogba in the team.

The point is that our squad has multiple players who would surely be more deserving of a captaincy. Starting with De Gea for example.

Dalot, Shaw, Bailly, Lindelof, Periera, Fred, Martial and Rashford all need to play as much as possible as the season is already a write off and we need to evaluate some of them. No reason at all to play the likes of Young, Matic, Valencia etc.

I think it's sensible to have a caretaker, as the next 6 months will show us whether the likes of Pogba, Lukuku, Fred and Sanchez can actually put in the required level of performances for Utd. If they can't do it in the next 6 months, then it was the players and not the just manager.

When all are fit (bar Lindelof who seems to be out long term):

De Gea- Dalot, Bailly, Smalling, Shaw - Herrera, Pogba, Fred - Martial, Rashford, Mata.

Immediate subs to be used in games: Lukaku if Rashford doesn't score, Matic or Fellaini if Herrera is not defensively sound, Pereira for Fred in cup games, Young for Shaw and Rojo for one of the CBs.

This is all the players we need for the season. Rest like Valencia, Jones, Lingard can be binned for good.
