So now Mourinho has gone it'll give a ton of players who were in the dog house a chance again, who would you want playing week in week out now?

Mine....

-----------De Gea-----------
Dalot---Bailly---Lindelof---Shaw
-----------Herrera-----------
------Mata-------Pogba------
Lingard----Sanchez----Martial

Could be Fred over Mata and Rashford over Sanchez but essentially feck of Smalling, feck off Jones, feck off Matic and feck off Fellaini. Oh and feck off Lukaku

Swap Mata for Fred and you're on to something. Play with energy and an aggressive press and let's see what they can do.

What we really need is a Matic of 3 years ago to keep the midfield organised.

I suspect Lukaku might suddenly improve a lot though.

Get Matic, Lukaku and Fellaini out of the team. That’s all I need.

---------------- De Gea
Dalot -- Smalling -- Lindelof -- Shaw
--------------- Herrera
------- Mata ------------ Pogba
Sanchez ----- Rashford ----- Martial

Subs: Romero, Bailly, Young, Matic, Fred, Lingard, Lukaku

Although I can see Lukaku being played more often to see if a new style of play will help him. And hopefully the likes of Greenwood and Chong getting some first team appearances.

For me the team needs to be free of Valencia, darmian, Jones, young, matic, fellaini, lukaku - Those players should never even start another PL game for united again

DDG
Delot bailly lindelof Shaw
Fred Herrera pogba
Lingard rashford martial

Mata perrera Sanchez are just a few of the creative and talented players we need to keep around and build something. I think has soon as we see the back of jose’s Donkeys like matic, fellaini, Jones and young it’s when we can truly start to build, start keeping young matic and Fellini around, we can never evolve has a powerhouse again.

So that’s the two baby steps one is done, Jose is gone, next step? start taking out the trash like Lukaku, fellaini, matic and young is the next step of many who need to go

for me it is midfield of Lindelof, Herrera and Pogba with Smalling and Bailly in defence and Rashford and Martial up front with Sanchez or Mata behind them, I would play a diamond formation with Pogba on the left Herrera on the right and Lindelof instead of Matic in the defensive midfield role.

De Gea,
Dalot Bailly Lindelof Shaw
Fred Herrera Pogba
Rashford Sanchez Martial

want to see energy and urgency in the side, more bite as well, if Pogba don't want to do that then would swap him with Periera.

I'd be fine with this team if we can secure a proper RW this Jan with instructions to fully stretch the pitch

My dream XI (completely unrealistic):

De Gea
Dalot Bailly Rojo Shaw
Chong Herrera Pogba Martial
Rashford Greenwood

4-4-2, fantastic wingplay, two absolute superstars of our own up front. Anyone who selects this would get so much goodwill immediately from the fans for trusting our exceptional youth in Chong and Greenwood. Naive, yes, but to hell with it - we should be intimidating teams and be on the front foot, not the other way around.

Defence was difficult but I actually quite like Rojo due to his aggression which balances nicely with Bailly, plus he's left-footed, which helps playing LCB.

Realistic XI:

De Gea
Valencia Bailly Smalling Shaw
Fred Herrera Pogba
Rashford Sanchez Martial

Matic and Lukaku will most likely spend some time out of the team with Jose gone.

There is no such thing as a starting XI over 5-6 months. Doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Much depends on the opposition, tactics, form, whether the game is home or away, etc.

Don’t see the point in playing anyone who isn’t good enough, or too old and won’t be here next year as this season is a write off.

De Gea
Dalot - Smalling - Lindelof - Shaw
Pogba - Herrera
Mata - Lingard - Martial
Rashford

I’d look to blood in Gomes, Chong and Greenwood.

I’d be surprised if a new manager keeps Matic/Fellaini/Young/Valencia.

Think we’ll end up taking the hit and trying to get Sanchez offloaded, and we’ll lose money on Lukaku.

Smalling/Bailly/Lindelof are the only three I see being here next year, I’d be surprised if Jones or Rojo are.

Of course but I think the OP just means which XI would we go with for most games. All of the top European sides have a "settled" starting XI for the most part. We need to get to that place as well.

Pretty much this tbh. The XI, the bold, the "feck offs", all of it

I don't think that's good enough to challenge for major trophies mind and we still need at least one CH, a strong MFer and a forward/winger.

City and Liverpool don't. Liverpool don't have a settled midfield and even the RB in big games. Nobody knows who will start for City in midfield and attack if all options are avaiable and on form.

Besides, it is really meaningless to discuss the fist XI without knowing the next manager and his tactical preferences. Best XI for high pressing and playing on the front foot or best XI for counter attacking or....

Anyone but Pogba. I wouldn’t have him anywhere near the team. I really hope he is the next to leave the club, followed by Woodward. Jones and the deadwood shortly after.

I would consider re-calling Tuanzebe and giving him a run of games at the back - let's take this opportunity to figure out which of the young players have a feasible chance of stepping up to the first team/squad next year.

My 1st starting line up would be:
DDG
Valencia/Dalot
Bailly
Smalling
Shaw/Young
Pogba
Matic
Herrera
Sanchez
Rashford
Martial
Short term I'd get somebody in to coach Fred into something that resembles a PL footballer. At present he's far too raw. Lindelöf wouldn't even be an option as he's nowhere near good enough. Lukaku could start performing if we got Martinez in as caretaker.

‘Jose Mourinho's departure means there is no longer any hiding place for those Manchester United players who have performed so poorly this season - their shield has been removed.

Mourinho has performed lamentably as Manchester United's manager for some time now but so have many of star names‘

Phil mcnulty is correct. Who will they blame now.

With increasing chances to Pereira, then sell Pogba in Summer if he continues to be a pest.

I think I'd opt for a 4-2-2-2, too. A bit like how City played with Nasri and Silva as wide playmakers, which is how Alexis and Pogba would operate here.

Really, I just want to see Fred get game time, and to see Pogba, Alexis and Martial all on the pitch together for a run of a games (eventually).

My actual line up would probably be something along the lines of:

DDG
Dalot - Smalling - Lindelof - Shaw
Fred - Herrera - Pogba
Mata - Rashford - Martial

It's not perfect but I think it's mostly functional and has a decent balance to it.
