Really weak team, although with some of the regulars in Dubai it's to be expected. Hopefully we can pick up a solid three points, Villa aren't a bad side at all so it'll be anything but easy.

Worst 13-14 minutes I have seen from a United-side for a long time - we are lucky only to be 1-0 down

Would have thought Traore would make this squad, especially given the absentees.

Much improved United in the last 10 minutes - and we get the equalizer from Burkart. Bohui's shot is blocked into his path and he rolls it home from 7-8 yards

Another goal conceded off a corner. I'll have to go through all the games and see the type of goals conceded. It has to be at least 70% from corners and wide free kicks.

Yeah but this was a howler from Kovar, and in fairness - with the pressure they put us under in the first 5 minutes - it was an accident waiting to happen.

OMG what a mistake - Murphy picks up a lose ball in midfield - runs alone and hammers it at the near post from 13-14 yards. How Kovar can let that go in at the near post, only God knows. We have totally dominated the 2nd half - but when you make mistakes like that ….

Half of them are howlers because they can't defend a ball in to save their lives. It's always going to be an accident waiting to happen when the opposition win 90% of the balls they cross in. We're beyond crap at defending a crossed ball in. It's the one thing you'd expect a crap manager like Sbragia to do and yet it's the weakest part of the team.

Well I can tell you one thing - you can't blame Sbragia for this one. We could be 3-4 goals up

George Tanner sent off after the referee deciding that every foul warrants a yellow card. He should never receive a yellow for the first, but the second was a yellow.

Sure I can. They wouldn't be making howlers if they were set up to defend a corner properly. It happens literally every game.
There is a difference between defending a corner poorly - and a goalkeeper missing an easy ball

no

Sbragia just doesn't rate him
Probably called him a useless sack of cnuts. Tbh he needs to go on loan, feels like we've wasted his last 18 months. Hopefully he gets a championship/league 1 loan because he has a lot of talent. He's at the age where he needs first team football.

Finished 5-1 Villa. There's some absolute garbage floating around the U23 team.

What hold does Sbragia have on Butt/United? Can't believe he's still here. Losing 5-1 in the second division with Manchester United in the Reserve League. Must be some kind of record.

Poor game. There are lots of meh players in u23’s, some have been around for a while and show no sign of improvement or development sadly.
Would like to see mctominay pereira Dalot getting games at this level.
Ref spoilt what was a good game, we were on top before tanner got the red.

Can’t say I’m too overwhelmed by Sbragia, he clearly has some backers within the club. Serial underachiever for me

I think he'll have to go at the end of the season, with the quality he has at his disposal (I know he has a lot of shite too but still) there isn't really any excuse why we shouldn't be going straight back up, we're looking like we're going to be stuck in the 2nd division for another season which is unforgivable really. He's been playing shite football all season, half of the lads will then go away with the u19s and look like different players, I sincerely hope we've got our eyes on a replacement.

Pereira shouldn't be anywhere near this level, he's in his third season of top flight football now, there'd be little benefit to sending him down to that league. Dalot needs games in the PL to get him up to speed in time for next season.

There'd be the benefit of actually being match fit. I fully support van Gaal's usage of the u23s. This expectation that you can just give a player a game in the first team after months of not playing a game at any level and expecting them to put in a good performance is frankly ridiculous. Dalot needs games, period, at any level. The level isn't always the greatest but it is still miles better than nothing at all. Unfortunately, it's a lot harder to do that with games on Fridays instead of Mondays. Although that wouldn't be a problem if we didn't have a useless cnut like Sbragia in charge.

Namely the biggest piece is the fat Scottish cnut on the sideline.

It's a disgrace how we've treated Gribbin and Buffonge.
Why what have we done to them?

Gribbin has not been fit to play and I don't know Buffonge's situation in terms of place in the team.

If he has been injured then he can't play and if Sbragia has preferred Chong, Gomes and others then that's his call surely.

There has surely been room to fit in Buffonge. Just look at last season. It's not a 1 season gripe. This after he performed really well for the u18s, Gomes injured for large parts last season and not getting promoted to u23s until the 2nd half of the season. In the few matches he's had with the u23s this season he's done well. We just saw him training with the first team and with those youngsters going to Dubai, Buffonge got no time. And he's been on the bench plenty of times and those were matches he should have gotten time.

And if Gribbin isn't injured, then why isn't he playing like yesterday for example? I understand prioritizing someone like Gomes and Chong. I know we didn't forget Gribbin was one of the premier talents along with Rashford. Sorry, but he should be prioritized over some others

I get the Buffonge situation...a lot of people like him. But we don't know what else is going on. As far as Gribbin is concerned he has been off his game for some time and not match fit physically or mentally.

The moment I read that Callum Gribbin had signed with Rooney's agent, I thought that was it for him at United, given where he stood in the list of priorities for the club. I can't see an agent like that being content to let his client be behind Gomes, Chong, Greenwood etc, waiting around for the combination of circumstances that might allow him to get a chance in the 1st team.

Personally, I think once a player turns 20, their thoughts should be about the next stage of their career, either up into the first team squad in the next few months, stay at United but get a serious loan at a high enough level that the first team manager might show an interest (Lingard, Cleverley route), or most likely, find a new club where they will get playing time.

DJ Buffonge is another who needs to leave for his own good. I can't remember many United youngsters who appeared to possess some talent but struggled for starts in the U23 team. I find it hard to believe that he has learned much over the last 18 months at United.

Max Dunne, Ercolani, Olosunde, Millen Baars, Gribbin and Tom Sang have barely featured at all. Most of them have appeared on the bench at some stage this season. I guess some of them have been injured. If they aren't good enough for United's U23 team then why are they still here ? I suppose Baars is relatively young, his birthday is in late May.
