Live Performance: Joe Hart vs Chelsea 2009. We could have played in Birmingham nonstop for the rest of the season, we were never going to score. Some of the saves he pulled off defied science.

Don’t rate him as an elite keeper, never have, but on this day he was the greatest of all time. It was a couple of days before New Years and ruined my mood completely. Prick.

Individual: John Aston vs Benfica. Arguably the single most impressive out-and-out winger display I've ever seen.
Most of the praise of the 68 Wembley final,in retrospect, was lavished upon the likes of Best,Charlton and Stiles but it was John Aston, who rightly claimed the MOTM award, who really shone throughout the course of the match. He had the Benfica backline on toast. His electric pace and directness was a sight to behold.
Would highly recommend the 68 final for viewers who've not witnessed that classic game.

Dusan Tadic against Real Madrid recently was a superb performance. One of the best I can remember in recent years. The whole team performed that night.

Yip.

It wasn't just that he was excellent, the rest of the team were shite that day. In a lot of the other examples, one player might have been great in a decent team - England that day were dog awful. Beckham was running to take throw ins, tracking back, tackling, crossing..... and with all the pressure, scoring.
Totally agree.

I've never seen anything like it before or since actually. Every other player that day had a genuine 2/10 performance apart from him.

It was incredible.

The only minor criticism of that Beckham Greece performance was, other than the perfectly timed winner, his freekicks were largely dreadfull throughout the course of the match.

If Heskey is mentioned a third time here I’m logging out for good.

Ontopic: That Baresi WC performance was something special. Never seen it before.

It's my favourite at least for what it meant at the time. Important game, very little to no help against a big team... ticks all the boxes.

As for team performances, probably Barcelona 5-0 Madrid.

John Obi Mikel vs Bayern in the 2012 CL final. Saved his best game for the biggest occasion.

Brazilian Ronaldo vs Man Utd at Old Trafford comes to mind..

George best vs Northampton after a massive bender wasn’t too bad, six goals (though against a weak team).

This was mightily impressive when I watched some ten years ago. Absolutely brilliant performance from him.

Two for me are:

Fabregas for Arsenal vs Barcelona. Can't remember the score but he was 21/22 and completely carried them to a draw vs the best team in the world

Schweinsteiger vs Argentina in the WC Final. It baffles me that there is no compilation of his individual highlights from this game, absolutely immense

Yeah that’s my favourite. Could throw in a handful of performances from Maradona and Messi too.

One that won't get a mention: Giggs vs Roma. One of the few 10/10 performances I've seen from a United player. It was like watching Platini at his best, also bizarre that, Giggs, the swashbuckling winger, has a claim, with this performance, to have had his best game ever whilst playing as a #10.

Toldo: his whole Euro 2000. Don't think I've seen better performances from a keeper. If that had been his default level, he'd be in the conversation with the others as one of the greats of the position.

McGrath & Baresi: WC '94

Platini: EC '84 (pick one)

Robson: vs Barcelona

Keane: vs Netherlands (to pick something other than the Juve game)

Ronaldo: vs Juventus in the infamous robbery game that denied Inter the title.

Ronaldo: CA '97

When I saw this thread, I immediately thought of Rivaldo against Valencia in 2001.

Other performances that stand out, two from Ronaldo against Atletico Madrid in 1996/1997, in the Copa Del Rey quarter-final second leg at home, and in the away match in La Liga. Both matches were the Ronaldo show.

Also there was Keane for Ireland at home to Holland in their 2002 World Cup qualifier, and Giggs away to Juventus in in the CL in 2003. Giggs was often outstanding against Juventus for that matter.

Another pick for Messi was his brilliant display against against Paraguay in Copa America semi-final. Alongside the 5-0 Clasico win in 2010/2011, and the CL second leg against City in 2015, he didn’t score but was absolutely unplayable.

Van Der Sar was epic away to Arsenal in 2003/2004 for Fulham, as was De Gea away to Arsenal last season, and of course away to Tottenham this season.

Brilliant. Never heard of this player, today I read his father also played for Manutd all his career and also worked in coaching team.

Random Game, 1-1 vs Reading in the league cup can’t remember the year

Adam Federici, we battered them all game and how Ronaldo didn’t score I still don’t know.

The best goalkeeping performance I have ever seen live.

Some that haven't been mentioned yet

Also strangely, one of the best performances I've seen live was when Andros Townsend was on loan at QPR against Wigan, swear every time he got the ball he dribbled 70 yards up the pitch.

Everyone who posts "Roy Keane against Juve" owes me £1.
:lol::lol: To be fair to Keane his performances for Ireland against Portugal and Holland in the qualifiers for the 02 World Cup were actually a lot more stand out than the Juve one. Ireland had a decent side at the time but we wouldn't have gotten 2nd in that group without him. Funny considering what happened at the World Cup after.

Among our greatest performances in post SAF era,
1. Herrera vs Chelsea
2. Herrera vs Pool
3. Depay vs Midtjylland
4. Dave vs Arsenal (the one with Double save
5. Dave vs Pool (the Martial debut one)
6. Mata vs Pool

Not necessarily in this order

Schmeichel away against Newcastle when we won 1-0 some 23-24 years ago sticks out for me - we could have been 5 goals down by half-time, and a couple of the saves were world-class.
