Not yet sure Ole is right for the job then we reportedly consider his No.2 to be the DoF essentially doubling down on a decision we're not yet sure was the right one.

Somebody close to Solskjaer but not of a 'what would Fergie do' mindset would be a decent idea. Jordi Cruyff might be worth pursuing.

Myself and another poster on here suggested Cruyff precisely because he has the experience of what it's like at United but also of what it's like elsewhere. I thought he would provide a balanced view on things. Plus he gets on very well with Ole.

I wonder if they even considered this? Just makes sense to me. You need a mixture of those that know the DNA of the club, but you also need people who can move you forward. I guess we'll see what happens.

Right since a lot of people have commented on this and seemingly none of you have bothered to check the link. The full story actually says it like this :

"Meanwhile, Mike Phelan is set to be announced as United’s director of football this week.

And it is understood the club plan to bring in a transfer guru to work alongside him."

Which makes zero sense but it's the Sun anyway.

The transfer guru will probably handle the transfer amount, sort contracts etc whereas Phelan will make sure the right type of players are scouted, bought short and long term.

I hope it's Paul Mitchell
Yeah, am with you. Phelan along with someone like Mitchell could work. Our transfers have generally been awful and Mitchell could do a decent job I feel.

However, we should have done this months ago. Most teams have their targets for the summer all figured out with some of the job behind the scene (agent contact for example) already started.

Brian Kidd wanted fecking John Hartson at the club back in 1998. I wouldn't trust him with being the guy who's in charge of recruitment.

This could work out fine. Our DOF isn’t suppose to be designed to find Ngolo Kante. He’s designed to identify we need Ngolo Kante.

Based on Phelan’s history he was there to identify Kagawa and highlight Isco as not United material.

Take that how you want.

You mean like how Fergie passed over zidane?

Mike Phelan? No he may have been the assistant to SAF but he would not know what kind of players to bring. He will try to sign Vardy and that sort of players. It's much better to bring someone who has experience in these kinds of a job. Jordi or even Overmars.

I didn’t actually give an opinion did I?

Chill before barking off. Isco actually wasn’t a United player. In my personal opinion. But all fans see things differently. We just need someone that see’s things the right way. Like not trying to sign Willian.

What has Overmars shown you to be more experienced for doing a Manchester United job. He knows nothing about our clubs ethos.

Did Jordi Cryuff play like his dad? I don’t get why he’s football philosophy should follow suit. The main point is Ajax Philosophy is not United’s. Did you like LVG?

Oddly enough I didn't.

Edit: Football wise I mean. He was great craic, just made me hate watching us play football.

I’m just saying that by your post you identified 1 player that went on to be top notch. But hindsight would be great for a manager or a DoF. Like I say we passed over quite a few in Fergies days too. No one is going to have a perfect record

Yes but your missing the point of my post. I didn’t give an opinion I said make of that what you will in a non sarcastic way. Isco has been a great player but he is to my opinion not a ‘United player’ which for now is the kind of decisions we need. Under that type of structure we would not have brought Juan Mata as he like Isco is not a United type player.

I agree that he’s not a united player

However I still found your post confusing

The two go together. They don't care about football so neither does Woodward. They spend enough to keep us in the top four but no more. The rest they take as profit. They are parasites.

Based on that, we've spent more over the last 5 years per season than Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs combined. Only city have spent more.

Based on that, we've the third highest wage bill in world football.

Every day it seems like there's a different name touted by the media. In other words, nobody has any clue who we're planning on appointing, or if we're even actually planning on appointing a DOF.

It's not what they spend but how they spend it so badly and the reason for it. They waste money on players that they see as having good marketing or resale value, or who are available on free transfers. They don't buy players according to a football strategy.

One good thing about losing out on top4 is the monetary loss that the Glazers will notice. Surely they'd by now realise that their money would be better spent if a banker wasn't in charge of rebuilding a football squad? Let Woodward stick to noodle sponsors.

Too late for this summer already and it looks like it will be someone from inside the club. I really hoped it would be someone from the outside with no links to the club, someone to give the higher ups fresher ideas and outlook.

When I saw a tweet that suggested we were going to bring someone in to work alongside him, I felt optimistic but looks like that isn't going to be the case after all

I thought it was SAF that said Isco’s head was too big or something, or is that a myth?

If Rio becomes our technical director of football, we officially bought Sancho from Dortmund for an unknown price.
