If the reports are to be believed then we should send €35m to Valencia and seal the deal

Cancelo is a attacking fullback that we've lacked in the team for a number of years now. Sandro on the other side and we'd look a different team.

In my honest opinion, he's not good enough for ManUtd.
I have watched all Inter games and I am not impressed. He had a few nice games, but he is error prone and nothing special (nothing special if we want to compete for the Premier League and the Champs League). If we are satisfied with the 4th place trophy then he is just fine.

How often does these muppet threads spin out of control? Every time?

These players we are connected with get better with each post.

Lindelöf was the next Baresi before he sat his foot in Manchester. Now people can’t believe he’s just a decent talent, young and learning.

Every one was sure Darmian would shit all over Valencia.

Now again, people think Valencia is so poor pretty much any guy with two legs and two feet will be so much better that our football will magically transform?

Don't know much about Cancelo or Sidibé so I turned to Swaka who shows Sidibé is much better than Cancelo and better than Walker at creating chances/key passes. Make of that what you will.
Really? Sidibe's definitely better in the air, but most of the attacking stats fall in Cancelo's favour:

Accurate Crosses/90: Cancelo 1.9 / Sidibe 0.5

That's fine, but the fact Cancelo has over 500 less minutes will skew the stats in his favour.

He'll probably be used in a back 5, if we buy him, to begin with, which i'd be fine with. The view would probably be for Mourinho and the team to coach the defensive part of a full back into him. I'm all for it, just for his crossing - I also think he takes corners?

So so overrated. This guy has the decision making abilities of a doner kebab he will never be good enough for Man United. Remember Rafael? He would be even more infuriating.

I would welcome this signing, so long as he is offensive minded and has a semi decent delivery. I've heard Sidibe is the better player, but there's hardly an abundance of good Right Backs at the moment.

After we played Rojo at LB, I feel nothing can ever be worse in the Fullback position.

We are being linked to so many players from Italy that Di Marzio should have confirmed something by now (if our interest is as concrete as so reports claim).

Until then taking everything as made up bs.

Hmm I must have had total and not 90 minutes clicked. Given Sidibe has 500 more minutes played that would make sense.

OMG... I cannot believe im reading here people praising Cancelo. Do not watch Youtube highlights, even I am world class on youtube. Cancelo is a good player... not more than that.
Ricardo Pereira who is going to Leicester is better and only cost about 20M €. Dont give me that crap, Cancelo is NOT great for MU...
Cedric and Ricardo are the right backs for Portuguese national team. Then you still have Nelson Semedo and then Cancelo. good luck with 4th best Portuguese right back.
geeeeez... some people do not know what they say.

Inter conceded lots of goals. Even against minnow teams. Fast by Serie A standard is not the same within EPL. Alves in his late 30s looked very fast player for Juve.

Rather give the opportunity to TFM or Tuanzabe.

No it won't. The stats are 'per 90 minutes', so the average contribution of both players is being compared.
Yes it will. One great game for Cancelo influences per 90 stats more than it does Sidibe. Same as total stats will skew it towards Sidibe. It's why using just pure stats is bollocks. If they normalised the stats across both players minutes and games played it would be a more fair comparison. I don't believe Squawka stat comparison does this.

The per 90 stats were why people were going on and on about Morata being better than Lukaku cause he had "more goals per 90" because he never played and the stats were skewed because of one hat trick.

To be honest, although it can look like it in a head-to-head comparison, I don't think there's actually much between them in an attacking sense. Both players would certainly be upgrades on Valencia.

Statistics are a numerical representation of events within games. They absolutely do not tell the whole story and cannot be the sole basis of comparison between players, but neither are they "bollocks".

As for the 'per 90' stat, this is more of an issue when comparing players who have a large disparity in games started, where one player's stats are largely or primarily generated from substitute appearances (when the player will be physically fresher relative to his/her opponent). This was certainly the case with Morata (who had more substitute appearances than actual starts last season). This isn't really the case with Cancelo, who has started 20 games for Inter in Serie A, and been subbed on in a further 6 (compared to Sidibe 25 & 2 in Ligue 1).

The minutes played difference will still skew the stats even slightly, that's why I would prefer a normalised set of stats. One thing I noticed when checking the Squawka stats was Cancelo had higher numbers per 90 and a lower "attack score" whatever that means. I just think the stats can be made and used better.

This. He’ll get her and people will tell us Varela had more talent.

Let's really hope this deal doesn't go forward. He's nowhere near good enough for our level.

The third best defence in Italy after Juventus and Roma for conceded goals.

Piracy on the High Seas.
Looks lanky.
How dynamic and powerful is he?
He's dynamic, but not overly powerful — though that's a tad bit beside the point because Cancelo has a fairly good physical profile for the position and is very disruptive at the point of attack — which gives you hope as regards his projection when he hypothetically figures things out or becomes more consistent. But that's uncertain because he lacks consistent mentality, makes only 4 or 5 good decisions out of 10 on an average day - excusable as a youngster but he's 24 now, has poor concentration levels and hasn't really improved for several years - but rather settled at a standard below what was expected of him on the basis of his athleticism and offensive skill set (when he's tuned in, he can be quite something). And those Taarabt-esque qualities might be too risky if he can't overcome those issues or doesn't have the innate desire to reach a higher level (which is something Semedo evidenced at Benfica - leading to the transfer to Barcelona). Cancelo is already below the likes of Pereira, Cédric, Semedo — and it won't be long before 19 year old Dalot overtakes him in the Portuguese pecking order as well - IMO, he's more likely to become a major fullback in the coming years than Cancelo.

I didn't watch any match of him this. season but even being a Benfica fan, i can only agree with what has been said about him, particularly his lack of consistency and decision making. However he is very talented and can unbalance very easily the opponent's defense. I think he would do very well playing in tactics that use 3 cb.
It is definetly a risky transfer for united.

wtf? That`s why it is per 90mins.. 22 vs 25 league games is a fair comparison, it could as well skew the stats in sidibe`s favour if he wasnt that good in those games and better maybe in Europe... It is a good sample and really simple statistics:smirk:

those are absolutely different type of players, Cancelo is an attacking fullback capable of creating something on his own, what we will see form Timbo and Axel is that they can maybe support attacks with their runs but hardly take players on and put in a decent cross. Cancelo is as skillfull as a winger, unfortunately seem to play like that defensively too at times. Dont think he is strong enough to be Mourinho fullback tbh even htough would like this idea of a technical fullback of Marcelo type:-)

Well no, because 10 chances created in 15 games gets a better score than 10 full games chances in 20 full games, even if the first guy made 8 of those chances in one game and did feck all for most of his others.

So Darmian to Napoli? Juve obviously are refusing to pay the asking price.

City spent about £75m on two RBs 2 years ago. Now they're being linked with Cancelo after 2 record breaking seasons.

He's better than Walker. City cannot get much better than they already are, so it will be tweaks here and there now.

He was my first choice RB when he was on loan at Inter. I hope we're in for him if he's available.
