I really want him as our Herrera replacement, surely wouldn't cost more than 40/50m either, get it done!

My only concern is his defensive works and mobility. He's mobile but not all that.

We don't really need Paul Merson to tell us he's a good player but as it's Merson we certainly shouldnt take it anymore than just his opinion

He’s more a Pogba replacement than a Herrera one though. More creative type than hardworking box to box type.
Disagree, I'd say an all round proper central midfielder is what he is. He doesnt have to be a traditional workhorse type to be that, he can be more the gundogan/rakitic type (which IMO is what we need anyway). That's the type hes always been, a proper central midfield type who can dictate games with his passing, vision, intelligence and technique, so being the middle player in a midfield 3 is perfect for him. Him being creative doesnt mean you must put him at the tip. You need creativity all over the pitch, and he'd be perfect next to Pogba or whatever #10 we decide on going for if Pogba leaves.

We don't need a box to box player, we need a deep lying playmaker to take the creative burden away from Pogba.

We dont need to worry about “who plays with Pogba”, “taking the pressure off Pogba”, as he will be gone in the summer.

I know but the likes of Silva, De bruyne and Bernardo have fantastic work rate and fairly mobile. There's a reason Gundogan got moved to the holding midfield role.

I actually love Tielesman look and I would love to have him but if I were to choose between him, Van de Beek, Tonali, I would choose those two ahead of him because they are fairly mobile and has good work rate to go with their talents.. Maddison and Ndidi have been able to complement him quite well at Leicester. We don't have the luxury.

I fear he will opt to stay at Leicester which makes sense for him. Would love us to sign him and he's exactly the profile Ole talks about. Young hungry player with obvious potential.

Tielemans works hard, hes not a Pogba type at all defensively. We need a solid system in place of course, but he's just perfect for the all rounder role. We need a holding midfielder behind him, but the thing is, those 2 positions are needed anyway. Pogba is the most advanced midfielder of the 3, he's not worth it in the other 2. I wouldn't compare Peps tactics to anything we should build towards, only he can make a midfield of Gundogan-De Bruyne - David Silva look balanced. At most other clubs, Gundogan is a pure central midfielder, just like Tielemans.

He doesn't need to be a Ndombele, Ndidi, crazy hard working box to box type. In fact you mention Van de Beek. He plays as an attacking midfielder basically. Hes really hard working, but he plays essentially in Pogbas position. They play De Jong as the holding mid and Lasse Schone next to him most of the time to provide the midfield balance in the middle. Tielemans is that midfielder to provide balance and link it all together. You get a workhorse type of midfielder and we'll again be in a situation where we lack that midfielder to dictate games with ability, because on the ball ability and intelligence is what we've lacked in our midfield for years.

He’s adapted to the premier league really fast. Still young, bags of potential. Makes too much sense for it to happen.

With Herrera gone we should be all over this guy. Tielemans has proven he can play in the premiership so we dont have to worry about that and it would make our slow midfield alot quicker meaning we can press and play at a high tempo

That was going to be Gundogan's role eventually because he lacks the mobility these days and often obstruct City's flow in the midfield whenever he plays as a no 8. If he could adapt into a central midfield role from his previous no 10 role at Nuremberg, I don't see why he can't adapt further into a no 6. Moreover, Silva, Bernardo and de bruyne have high workrate to help him from being constantly exposed.

Van De Beek is at his best as a central midfielder either as a no 6 or no 8. That was where he mostly played last season and in Ajax academy where he got cruyff award. He was moved to the no 10 role to accommodate Frenkie and Schone. Last year, Frenkie was either injured or played in central defence but with the signing of Blind into the defence this season, the coach had to find Frenkie a new position and also, they needed to replace Klassen hence the reason Van De Beek had to be moved to the no 10 role, considering his noses for goal and quality movement and that makes him better fit for the no 10 role than Frenkie. (Tadic replaced Kluivert in the team)

Personally, I would have Van De Beek as a no 6 if he were to come here because that was the role where he impressed me against us after coming on for Schone in the Europa final match. He's also mobile, good in the air, can switch play and is defensively solid.

I actually would like us to have a 3-man central midfield of Tonali, van de Beek and Ceballos, with Van de Beek as the no 6 at the base behind Tonali and Ceballos. Tonali is a better dribber than Van de Beek and also he's got terrific throughballs when close to the opposition's box. Ceballos is more like a pass and move midfielder with a high pressing skill.

Against top opposition, Ceballos could give way for MCTominay. A midfield of Van de Beek, Tonali and Ceballos could even work against top opposition side as long as they all work in tandem with one another and contribute their defensive quotas which they are all capable of.

I want high workrate midfielders who are all defensively sound and mobile which is what Tielesman isn't. I wouldn't mind him as a squad player but he wouldn't want that.

Sounds like the type of player we should be signing. We need to replace Herrera and we definitely need to find a CDM to ensure Matic never plays again.

Herrera is going. Can't believe we're not full in for him already. Performed really well at Leicester since Jan as well, what's the board doing? Make the move.

I expect he will be a leicester player next season. Why rock the boat when you have a manager and a team you already settle with and also work to your strength? He needs a stable environment to continue his development, and if he keeps playing well, the big clubs will come calling. I can't wait to see how him, Maddison and Ndidi do as a midfield 3 next season.

This is the sort of signing a proper DOF would make that wants to start to build a top team, and allow us to make managerial changes without cataclysmic changes needed all the time.

Young, gettable, affordable, massive room to progress still, and just had a nice audition to prove he can cut in the prem, you wonder what there is to think about really.

Probably wondering how we can play him in the same team as Pogba. And the sticking point there would be getting an amazing DM who does a large amount of ball winning, only a couple of those around and would probably be expensive

Great young player, with a terrific engine and huge work rate. May not be the most gifted midfielder we could buy this summer, but given the task of the re-build ahead, he fits the role perfectly. If we are to get back into the top 4, then this is the kind of player we need to be looking at.

Even if we need to wait for the DM, then you'd still think we would go for it at the money been discussed, Pogba's future is up in the air, god hope he stays, but we need depth, and to 'future proof' ourselves.

it's clear if Leicester get him, and he stays injury free, then the price will be double next summer.

I mean yeah, its a good price for a young talented player but if we ended up not signing another DM this summer he could have a tough season here next to Matic.

For me, it’s Rice+1 in terms of midfield additions. I’d like Rice and Barella as both are scrappers, which we need. I’d be equally happy with, especially considering budget, Rice and Rabiot. Tielemans is class though, but doesn’t do enough off the ball to be in a central midfield with Paul Pogba for me. But he’s a great passer from both feet and can do that ‘control the tempo of the game’ thing the caf lives so much.
