What’s the reasons for keeping Ole?

Well if you could get your head out of your ass. You would have noticed that United played good in several matches. Then some was won with luck then boom the form drops just when it's alot of contract being renewed at the club. And also sence smalling, young and Jones got extended to 110k per week something that was done without Oles approval. The rumour are that several other players wanted a raise as well sence 3 piss poor players got that much the ones that did the good playing had less. And players like Herrera De gea and such couldn't understand why they did not get a raise.

Ole is trying to stop the wages madness in the club. He sat down the foot and want have a same kinda system the club had before and like City have. The best earn this. The second best that much. Squad players less. And up and coming much less. If not it fecks up the wardrobe. So Ole said enough is enough some will go because of it but it's one of the things that needed fixing. So add that to a stable in piss bad running form, injuries and no other manager would done better.

Ole have a very funny philosophy. But he needs a preseason. He needs some of his own players. And he will need the same in January. Sad thing is that Jones Young and smalling had new contracts cause impossible to sell then.
Are these rumors coming from those reddit ITKs? Because that’s how credible they seem. De Gea and Herrera were both offered new contracts, who both have turned down. Are you attributing our bad form to the extension of those 3 players? Also, if the De Ligt does sign with us this whole wage structure you’re talking about is going out the window and it’s very likely the case with Rabiot.

I think it's only right that we the fans get behind Ole and the lads at least until we've conceded the first corner of the new season, then we'd be fully justified asking for him to be sacked.

Well you asking a fcuking stupid question.
If our first corner of the season hits the first man at shin height, solskjaers position is untenable and the taker should be sold before the window shuts.

No it falls under the same as Pogba. Everyone knows de ligt will be a star. And he will prolly become our captain ergo he's salary will start high.

Not looking like stupids firing him after two months of giving him the job, but we will end up looking more stupid after spending on more deadwood and firing him in december.

I honestly get pissed off at the constant "well who else is there" questions, we are fans of Manchester United, we don't get paid to scout, analyze good managers, there are a lot of idiots who are being paid millions and employed by the club for that specific purpose, why don't they do their job and get good coaches? \
Look at all our managerial appointments post SAF,
1. David Moyes - no prior analysis was done on him and he got the job purely because SAF said so
2. LvG - he was on the way to Spurs and we made a snap decision to get him because he finished third in the World Cup whilst playing the crappest of crap footabll.
3. Mourinho - again no scouting done, it was just assumed that getting him meant winning a title immediately.
4. OGS - again got the job on the space of 15-20 games.

I wouldn't have hired him personally but he is here now. Our squad is mediocre which is not his fault but I do not belive he can attract or buy the right players we need. Anyway I also think he will be out of the job this time next year after we fail to reach CL again.

I'm convinced SAF had a hand in the appointment of Ole and wouldn't surprise me if he is behind keeoing him on. My own personal view is that the bad run we had was going to happen anyway. We were living in a fairytale when he came. Reality kicked in because the squad is as it is. If Ole can ride the storm, make the right decisions over the summer etc, then it could be the making of him.

The problem is we are unlikely to have a good enough summer.

So we don’t look like mugs. We just gave him a contract few months ago and sacking him now will just show how incompetent our board is in making decisions. I believe next season is a write of season with little expectation. We already aiming for top four trophy rather than the league title, so our standards has clearly dropped.
This. It's just a face saving activity at this point.

What is a fair shot? Someone like you is very quick to right off players we sign as shit, and advocate ruthlessness in dealing with them. Why is the manager an exception?

Clubs like Madrid are far more ruthless in terms of their managerial decisions, than the way they deal with their players.

This. It'll all be Woodwards fault. Or the scouting staff - who didn't find the right players, and also Woodward who then also selected the wrong players.

Its nothing to do with nostalgia. Nostalgia is just the PR stunt they sold us on. The owners dont give a monkeys about nostalgia except id it makes us money. They did it because:
1) he is cheap, both wages and to get him from Molde.
2) he is more easily manipulated. Basically the opposite to Mourinho who just caused trouble when he never got his way
3) he is easily sold to the fans and fans will back him and give him more opportunities - see results.
4) he will be happy to buy cheaper players based on the dream of building a new legacy...this time next year Rodney we will win the league!
5) The egos in the dressing room will back him cause he will give them less sht.

He hasnt even had a pre season yet and still you have the doom and gloom merchants. He cant ship out 10-12 players in one window, so some will have to remain. Lets see if he can get their fitness levels where he wants them to be. lets see if he can bring in 4-6 players who will greatly improve the play.
We have had supposedly the 2nd best manager on the planet here at great expense who did no good title chasing wise. Who else would we have got in if we had waited? Poch? Whos to say he wouldnt have turned us down?

First of all you need to define ruthlessness. If a club kicks out a player whose been employed for them for 3-8 years because he wasn't able to deliver any decent football then that is not ruthlessness but simply common sense. I've always said that as a thumb of rule a player should be given a year to settle down. If he fails to deliver then he's given a second year HOWEVER some solid competition should be added. Then if he fails again then the club should consider selling him. There are few exceptions though for example if we sign someone for instant success and he fails to deliver. You can't keep a Sanchez for 3 years on that salary. Nevertheless I find the 3 year rule as fair

Returning to Ole he's done very well up until he was given a permanent contract. Which is quite convenient really. The moment Ole had the power to change things around his players seemed to have downed the tools. That's a common accusation made by Mou, LVG and Moyes as well. Now I am not defending Ole or the former managers at all. In my opinion the latter should have been sacked while I have serious doubts that Ole would succeed. Having said that its pretty evident that our issues go way beyond the manager and won't be sorted by the manager being sacked again. Actually I believe that things will be made worse as a new manager will come in, he'll give these players the benefit of the doubt and then they'll work on sacking him again.

So here is what I think it should be done. Give Ole a year with the mandate to clear all the deadwood and augment the team with young players. Let all our players know that if Ole fail as a manager then he'll be given a job at board level which means that their little coups will only serve in pushing the manager closer to the owner's ear. Meanwhile we should invest in restructuring the club at board level. If I had my way then the football side and the business side should be separated with both sides having their own CEOs. From the football side of things I'd hire VDS as CEO, SAF should return as club president only to be replaced by Ole when SAF calls it a day + if things go haywire, Campos should be appointed as DOF, Said Ouaali should be appointed head of youth development and Mitchell should be appointed as head of recruitment. We won't be winning anything tangible anytime soon so lets invest heavily on rebuilding the foundations of the club for good

The Season is technically not even ended, transfer window hasn't properly started yet yet people are moaning about the squad and the players not been moved in or out of the club.

Give him a chance...........from what we are reading I think we are going for the right targets.

Give him 2 Windows at least see how we do next season.

I'm actually starting to loathe a lot of our own fans...........been so toxic this last year. Even our supporters club whatsapp group has become unbearable.........mix of delusion and absolute shite talk.

Some of the stories coming out about the defence in the past two days are not good. Ole is happy with what we have, wants to give them a chance. Need to give him time, but it's clear we need 4-5 signings who will come in and be first team players.

I'm not at all confident that we have a summer window any better than last years farce. I think we will keep Pogba but only because we wont let him leave not because he wants to stay. I think we finish 6th again at best next year. Maybe I'm totally wrong and De Ligt, Fernandes, Rabiot, AWB and Felix walk through the door but that's just me dreaming.

Great name calling there.

Yes, we should begin hiring crap managers giving them 3-4 years with the hopes of making it, that would do better. 6 years contract bonus if they have played for United as well.
Nobody said anything about 3-4 years with 6 year bonuses. You made that up. Maybe he deserves a bit longer than 5 months though especially since half of that time we were playing pretty well. I know it sounds crazy but just maybe he could bring in a player or two of his own before we sack him. You would of got rid of Sir Alex then in his first few seasons?

Giving him the permanent contract after 2 losses on the bounce was a terrible decision but sacking him now before he's even had a summer to rebuild and a pre-season to get the team playing how he wants would also be a terrible decision.

We jumped the gun and we'll either pay the price for it this season or get lucky and it'll turn out he's a much better manager than we've seen from him so far. Hopefully the latter, probably the former.

Toxic.. these kind of threads.. Ole is the Man United manager and will be heading to his first full season as a manager for the club. That is the reality, independent of the feelings of fans who criticize that decision. Let the man implement his ideas and tactics and half way through the season one can evaluate the potential progress. Come may one can reach conclusions. Until then, let’s make a conscious effort to spread (some) positivity back (on the doom and gloom feelings around here). Ole had a good sprint when his managerial career started here, but had to endure the road blocks towards the end of the season. He has now experienced the high and the lows of being a United manager and has hopefully learnt from it in order to start with a clean sheet come next season.
Toxic..? This is a forum for fans to give their opinion. I doubt Ole reads this.

As already stated of course myself & others who aren’t convinced by
Ole will still support him & the team while he’s in charge.

If we dont improve in terms of playing personnel then we will finish lower than 6th next year for sure.

Worst thing to happen over the last 6 years is how insufferable United fans have become.

Imagine SAF coming in as manager these days, half these cnuts would want him sacked.

I despair.

I posted in the newbie forum that for me Im 50/50.

I love the guy as a player/person, but as a manager Im still torn as to wether he has the balls to clear out the deadwood and start again. There's just far too much of it in our club and that includes Rashford and
Lingard.

I pointed out that he reminds me a bit of Steve McClaren when he took over England and tried to be too chummy with the players, calling them by their nicknames and the performances suffered because it then made it hard to drop his mates.
Ole has started doing that with 'Rashy' and 'Lings' it makes me shudder. Fergie wouldn't have done it, he didn't even do it after the charity match the other day against Bayern. When I hear Ole doing it, it says to me he's not going to have the power or the balls to drop players who are under-performing. I'm already getting the impression he sees Rashford as undroppable. A manager needs a certain distance from the players so they still know whos boss.

If he's going into next season with Rashford and Lingard leading the line I will know he's not good enough, regardless of who we buy. Its average players like those 2 that we've come to accept these days and why we're in the position we are in.

Im prepared to give Ole the chance though because he's inherited this team off Mou so will be interesting to see who he brings in and what style he has in mind. But a big part of me says nothing much is going to change, that the spine of the team is still going to contain the deadwood like Smalling, Jones, Matic, Young, Lingard, Rashford etc it needs a major overhaul and clearout the likes never seen before, but is Ole the man to do it? I just don't know.
I hope he is, I really do, but he's got to get like Fergie right now, stop with the first name chummyness with players and have the balls to drop or even offload the players who just aren't fit to wear the shirt.
Also I don't buy into this fitness excuse 100% as fitness comes and goes throughout a season anyway. People who exercise will know that a certain level of fitness can be obtained through regular exercise and maybe Ole will have them training more to keep that up, but if he thinks that a big part of why we were crap last season can be turned around in a 6 week pre-season fitness camp then he hasn't got a clue. Its going to take a lot more than regular treadmill work to improve the dross we have at the club and wether they help themselves and keep that fitness up is another thing.

Ole is a Norwegian legend, maybe their players respond to being shouted at. A lot of United players do not know that much about him apart from the songs and that goal. It is easy shouting at Molde players than at multi-millionaire PL footballers. PL footballers are pampered and have too much power. If Ole gets this transfer window wrong and cannot get his style in place he will be in serious trouble. So the club need to back him as they have promised. I am worried that Ole will not attract the players he thinks he can. A lot of players are now being attracted to City, Liverpool and now even Spurs because of Poch. Not many world class players are coming out and saying they would love to play for Ole. Plenty who I have never heard of are saying they want to play for United, but will they get us back to the top?

Rushed appointment irrespective of the start Ole didn't and hasn't deserved the job on the premise of his overall tenure since taking over Jose, the sentimental aspect of being a previous employee for the club has nothing to do with that fact.

It doesn't matter who we hired for next season, it was always going to be a transition the problem is we are trusting a manager with absolutely no pedigree with massive resources to triumph what three managers have failed consecutively to do. It's almost something of a fairytale.

This "good football" argument is nonsense and drivel that is spearheaded by delusion. Since Ole came in the only good football we have witnessed was the fixture against Cardiff. It is a myth for others to suggest we have played any good football under Ole.

The foundation of good football should be the measurement of possession, build up play, crafting chances and scoring goals. Liverpool / City play good football, Napoli played good football (Sarri), Arsenal early 2000's played good football, our 2008 campaign good football, Barcelona under the tiki taka system was good football, 80's Milan good football, 70's Brazil etc. Whenever has sitting off / deep and playing on a counter ever been considered good football ? That is a false narrative people have come up with.

While Solskjaer was many fans first choices and others last, the fact remains that he is the manager and all we can do is support him. We need to break this cycle of mediocrity in the team, even if Ole provides a platform for another manager to improve upon that is good enough In my opinion, not expecting a miracle when he's proven little in his managerial career.
This is a really great post. I totally agree with everything you have written here.

Ole is ultimately a 'heart over head' appointment. All things being equal, a club the size and ambition of Manchester United would have looked to a more experienced manager, with a track record at the helm of big clubs and of winning trophies, none of which Ole has. The problem is that the last two managers had exactly that resume and we still sacked them. In my opinion Ole's appointment is borne more out of desperation than careful consideration. Appointment to the United job, at a time when the club is in transition, is not the job that you would normally give to a rookie with no experience of operating at this level.

I think Ole will be given time to show what he can be, but I do not think that it will be long. If by December, United are playing indifferent football and more than 10 points off fourth spot, I really cannot see him surviving. At the very least we must remain in Champions League contention and by the end of next season, we must have secured a Champions League spot, that for me is non-negotiable. At the end of the day, United is a business, not a project. In the world that Manchester United operates, profits are every bit as important as points. As such, the idea that we can stumble along for three years in the hope that something will turn at some point, is utterly laughable.

People who contend that 'Ole will be given time' assume that Ole will achieve a Klopp-like turnaround at United. However, the counter-argument is that as long as United remain a peripheral player in the top six, we are less likely to attract top players or even keep the ones we have. As a result, we will have to pay more and more to attract better players to the Club. Unlike clubs in top four spots, these players will not be attracted to us by the lure of playing in the Champions League, they will be mercenaries looking for the next big pay day or opportunity to hawk their clothing line or aftershave off the back of a diminishing United brand.

I think United fans are rightly reserving judgement and giving Ole the benefit of the doubt for now. Anger is being directed at the board, at players, at the media and even at eachother. Ole is enjoying something of a honeymoon at the moment, but come the start of the season it will be time for him to deliver. Of the many things that football fans are famous for, unlimited patience with management is not one of them.

Sir Alex came with accolades winning 3 Scottish championships with Aberdeen - breaking the Celtic/Rangers duopoly. He won the CWC beating Real in the process.

At the time he came he was one of the top managers in the world.

Ole has nothing on Pep, Sir Alex, Klopp, Zidane or other managers he is constantly being compared to.

The first part was obviously said in jest.

I'd back obviously any proven manager and give him the time Ole is supposed to get. Moyes or Ole appointments are obviously going to fail and many will get that as soon as Christmas. Not giving him time is that we're in better state next season and actually getting a proper structure and proper manager this summer. This is why he shouldn't be given time.

Because if he fails that would set us back 2-3 years in the long run. From what I'm getting is fans don't really care if we're going to be in worse state or generally suck even more, just because Ole is a nice lad and former player. The latter are obviously the credentials he's been appointed for.

It's time we stop demanding success within two seasons. I don't care who the manager is, I want to see them in charge for a minimum of three full seasons to implement their style and identity into this club. In Solskjaer's case, it's even *more* important that he gets the time he needs - this is a man who lives and breathes our club DNA. If he can implement it, the next manager will benefit from his groundwork even if Solskjaer is deemed unfit.

Well he's not in charge of player recruitment and plays no part in acquiring them so why would that be his fault?
