Pogba stays. Lukaku out. Bruno, Dybala and Maguire in. What would be our ceiling?

Positive take on the other thread init.

3rd this season, pushing the top two next season if this squad can gel and progress as a unit.

Not sure why we’d want Dybala AND Fernandes. We need a central midfielder who plays a little deeper. Very weird how Wagstaff is the only one we’re linked to.

Why wouldn't we want both of them?

Title contenders IMO. If we had CL football I would say top 3 but one game a week while kids play EL is a massive advantage.
That's if they gel of course. I honestly think the standard outside of the top 6 (and inside sadly) has plummeted to where we wouldn't need an elite side to plough the league.

We’re short on midfielders and very short on attacking quality in said position.

If we think Pogba is likely to move on next summer, we should be bringing in his replacement now and letting him settle. There is enough games, especially if Dybala is happy to get minutes coming in from the right.

Because it’s a waste of a transfer to sign two attacking midfielders who wish to occupy the same space. We aren’t going to make two big signings and have one on the bench. If you want both and they’re both on the field together, one is going to have to accommodate and play at a level below their best.

Fourth place, assuming Solskjaer can get the rest of the squad playing - we have after all lost 6 of our last 10 games with him in charge (no win in 5) and most of the first XI will remain the same.

youd be tempted to play a diamond

-------------- Martial----Rashford----------
----------------------Dybala-------------------------
--------------Pogba--------Fernandes-------
---------------------McTominay-----------------

that would be a fantastic attacking team and Pogba, Fernandes would need to work hard to support McT

we'd be a lot closer to City for sure depending on how decent our defence is

Not sure why we would buy players to push young Lingard out of the first eleven either.

They don't need to occupy the same space and they both play very different. if we have the opportunity to sign two class players in a position we have a real dearth of quality in, then we absolutely need to do it.

See my other post - you don’t just stockpile on expensive players who play in the same position. We aren’t Manchester City to do this. It’s one or the other.

Dybala played on the right this season and had his worst season ever.

Bruno and Dybala combined could guarantee additional 25 goals and close to that number of assists. 3rd clearly possible with another Europa title almost guaranteed.

Maguire should reduce bullshit in defense which should help secure a steady season of clear improvement.

Think realistically it should be enough for Top 4, considering those three will have come in late in the transfer window and will need to build a synergy with their teammates over the course of the season

Pogba's the best of the lot so we'd still be pretty limited in where we'd finish if he left. 4th is the best you could hope for with the scenario you've given. Dybala and Fernandes in the same midfield sounds awful, one of them wouldn't be in their best position. However, with Pogba instead of Fernandes we could give 2nd a good go, if the team gelled, the lack of a RW would be damaging over the course of the season which would hold us back and still some question marks about how many goals Rashford/Martial can contribute. I'd back us to pick up the FA cup or the League Cup and we'd walk the Europa League if we played our first XI in the knockout stages.

Lets sign two strikers as well. And three more CBs.

See. I can be obtuse too.

So how do you fit Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, and Paulo Dybala in the same team without seriously accommodating the talents of at least one of those players? Genuinely curious.

Put all three on the left wing? Isn't that what we do?

Dybala can play up top or on the right without much issue, he’s done it to great effect throughout his career no? Pogba continues to play where he’s played all pre season. Bruno comes in for Lingard.

Obviously we have no one on the right. Dybala can figure there or push Rashford out there.
We could go with 2 strikers in Martial & Rashford with Dybala behind them.
Bruno would be in a midfield 3. By reports he works his socks off, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Now you no longer need to be obtuse.

It’s not about stockpiling. It’s about both having enough quality and preparing for the inevitable. We lost Fellaini and Herrera already so we have room in the squad for bodies, it’s clear that Solskjaer thinks we should be investing in attacking players to build a squad more befitting of United so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him bring in attacking midfielders and forwards. How many defensive midfielders did Fergie sign in his 26 years?

Pogba downs tools again, Lukaku wins Ballon d'Or, Bruno's exposed as bang average, Jones shows Maguire how to be made of glass all through the season, while Dybala gets his house broken into and pulls a Di Maria. Oh and just as a bonus, we extend Sanchez till 2025.
Am I doing the cafe right? :nervous:
Hopefully the above cancels out all the jinxes made in this thread.

That being said....let's make Manchester Red again.
