You'll hardly find many claiming that, even amongst people that liked it.Can we stop this claim that RDR2 did everything really well...
The OP did and I've met a few people that will not hear anything negative said about it at all. You'll hardly find many claiming that, even amongst people that liked it.
At least the mainstream ones that come out now tend to be really well done like RE2, RE7 and Alien Isolation. I'd take the trade off in quantity if I get a really good one every few years. The Metro games have a survival horror element to them too.Gaming industry not so much, but Survival Horror is for a long time, after Amnesia, everyone started doing same walking simulator shit over and over again, Resident Evil 2 Remake now and previously The Evil Within gave it a bit of life, but it has been same shit for years made so streamers can scream to jump scares.
You just need to be a bit more adventurous and willing to research. There are 10 times more games than before, you could also find many free to play games which are worth the time and interest.I was just reminiscing today about that days on the first PlayStation and PS2. Every weekend I'd go to Game, look in the section full of trade ins and find so many games that looked and were brilliant. Half of which i hadn't heard of. Cost like a couple of quid too.
What the hell happened? Did every developer get bought out by bigger companies? The content back then was amazing, I was younger then obviously, but i could quite easily play 2 or 3 games at the same time. These days its just Fifa with COD now and then.
Just doesn't feel that way but maybe I'm just not as aware these days due to not playing as much. You just need to be a bit more adventurous and willing to research. There are 10 times more games than before, you could also find many free to play games which are worth the time and interest.
But it really depends what genre you are into, just don't necessarily go with what is popular and you will find what suits you the most.
Your nostalgia is understandable. I still feel that a little bit of googling might change your perception on some of your opinions.Just doesn't feel that way but maybe I'm just not as aware these days due to not playing as much.
I think the standout thing was the number of good local multiplayer games. Loads of racing games, Tony Hawks, SSX, Moto Cross games. There just seems to be more games but all of a similar type/genre now, but where are the modern versions of those games? If they exist then they must be pretty rubbish because I've not heard of them.
Then there were completely random but fun games like Street Racer and Vigilante 8. Felt like i played those games four years without getting bored.
Hell we've not even had a boxing game on this generation of console.
You're completely right, look what they did with Tony Hawk franchise. The fun factor of SSX in today's gaming ? Forget it. They can't even create immersive soundtrack these days to begin with.Just doesn't feel that way but maybe I'm just not as aware these days due to not playing as much.

It's a real shame about Tony Hawks franchise, that was a fantastic game. And when did they stop making SSX? These games along with MX 2002 were a hell of a lot of fun. I could only imagine what they could do with them on modern consoles but obviously they don't think the money is there. You're completely right, look what they did with Tony Hawk franchise. The last SSX was a mobile one in PS3 era. EA never published another sequel from then. It's a real shame about Tony Hawks franchise, that was a fantastic game. And when did they stop making SSX? Have you played the new Trials Rising? I have a feeling you might enjoy it.It's a real shame about Tony Hawks franchise, that was a fantastic game. And when did they stop making SSX? The equivalent of that sort of experience these days is the Steam summer sale.Every weekend I'd go to Game, look in the section full of trade ins and find so many games that looked and were brilliant. Half of which i hadn't heard of. Cost like a couple of quid too.
Don't say that. I felt pretty much the same myself however then I got a switch and rediscovered my love for the medium!Nah, we're just getting old and lost our sense of wonder. Game industry's fine.
Yeah, I love my Switch. Such a breath of fresh air.Don't say that. I felt pretty much the same myself however then I got a switch and rediscovered my love for the medium!
I'd suggest more people at least give this a try.I went past Game earlier and popped in, nothing of interest on PS4/Xbox. But at the Nintendo Switch section it was another story.
Pokemon
Luigis Mansion
Astral Chain
Animal Crossing
Dragon Quest 11
Zelda
All coming this year.
Add to that Smash Bros, Mario Maker 2, Odyssey, BOTW, all games out already that its easy to lose a lot of hours to, and great indie games like Hollow Knight, Cuphead etc
I havent been this hyped about a console for years. Switch is the best thing I have done for myself in gaming terms, got me away from the rut of games with a million types of grey
Have you played Starcraft? Both are still relevant and quite good.I miss RTS games like C&C and supreme commander.
I like the Co op in RTS games as well. Not really into FPS games
I usually end up playing age of empires 2 (or the star wars version of it). Just feels hard to top. They've just released an updated version of the base game so its got a decent community at the moment too apparently. Starcraft was a lot of fun too, though i bought it once it had about 4 campaigns worth of content, which is a just a bit too much and i cant face playing it again any time soon. Not a bad complaint though.I miss RTS games like C&C and supreme commander.

I feel that's a gross generalisation. Some of the big developers/publishers are pure filth but there's still more than enough good-to-great ones out there. I don't think the gaming community needs saving at all. Just ignore EA, Activision and any games-as-a-service crap and you're good.As with everything, corporate greed has taken over. What used to be about fun is now about maximisation of profits. Its become the equivalent of someone looking at the winning lottery numbers for the bast few years and then putting in a ticket with the 6 numbers that came up the most. Theres very few exceptions to that rule. The saving grace of gaming wont be the big gaming giants, it will will come from the little guys. The little indie games that care about the fun factor and not the maximisation factor.
The game Ive put the most hours into in the past 10 years was FTL. It cost me next to nothing. It didnt need multiplayer, or the latest graphics, or loot boxes and shoe horned co op play. Just a simple little game that I love playing. Even on ipad its still simple. Theres no "buy gems to unlock blah blah blah" with £70 packs of gems. I miss games being about fun and only fun. Or at least fun first, making money second.
Great shout. FTL is probably the closest thing to great Star Trek game we'll ever get. Management of power between shields, weapons, cloak and other subsystems in heat of battle is probably the highlight of Indie gaming for me. Not to mention, exploring star systems still surprise me, even after putting solid amount of hours in it, too.The game Ive put the most hours into in the past 10 years was FTL. They're hit and miss. A couple of people have mentioned Assassins Creed and while 2 or 3 have been very good theres plenty more that fit pretty neatly into the generic, unimaginative, shitty AAA pile. Even just limiting it to EA and Activision your missing out on Sekiro (which i haven't played tbf) Blizzards stuff and ... Mirrors Edge and Dead Space from EA? EA is a bit crap atm really .I feel that's a gross generalisation. Some of the big developers/publishers are pure filth but there's still more than enough good-to-great ones out there. AC is Ubisoft, which is another developer I usually ignore but I didn't mention them as they aren't as offensively horrendous as EA and Activision. But there is also the likes of God of War, The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us, Nier Automata, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Monster Hunter World, Ni No Kuni 2, etc etc etc that are all examples of good-to-great games from big studios. Yeah, a few of them got there by fairly indie means. Demons Souls and the first Witcher were relatively limited. Platinum Games are ex Capcom. Capcom always felt like one of the better, more interesting developers a bit like Nintendo (recent Street Fighter is definitely a black mark against them though). I think i'll always have a soft spot for them for being pretty much the only 3rd party developer who made games for the Sega Saturn.AC is Ubisoft, which is another developer I usually ignore but I didn't mention them as they aren't as offensively horrendous as EA and Activision. The player traverses a wide open map. They must get to "points" on the map to get intel on the surrounding area. The player must meet npcs in the area to unlock missions(read fetch quests). Which ubisoft game am I talking about?I feel that's a gross generalisation. Some of the big developers/publishers are pure filth but there's still more than enough good-to-great ones out there. Ive always felt the game could be opened up a little bit by getting rid of the fleet on your back and the destination stuff. Expanding on away missions would be pretty cool. Theres a game that came out a while ago you should try, Halcyon 6: starbase commander. Its not ftl but its a pretty good little indie game that really gave me that star trek vibe. DS9 to be exact. If you havent tried it, I recommend it. Its on PC and ios.Great shout. FTL is probably the closest thing to great Star Trek game we'll ever get. So far there are no signs of FTL 2, perhaps because they know overcomplicating it could destroy the charm and originality of the first one.
The things I bolded are your problems. Ubisoft, one of the most formulaic, uninspiring studios out there. EA, arguably the worst publisher of all time. COD = Activision, hot on the heels of EA. Mass Effect Andromeda: see EA, a franchise (and developer) ruined by them. The player traverses a wide open map. They must get to "points" on the map to get intel on the surrounding area. All the big companies fall into this trap of working the game around mechanics that have proved popular in the past. EA, all its shooters are generic eye candy. They might as well be the same game with different skins. Which is actually the case in one of the COD maps.
Every now and again we get the last of us. But its so few and far between. Bethesda games have dropped off a cliff. Bioware... I cant even. I could go on and on, but I dont wanna. If you still get something out of the current gaming market, thats cool. I dont, at least not like I used to. And its not because Im a grumpy old feck nugget(which I absolutely am). Its because the idea of what makes a great game has changed. Perhaps nintendo has held on to its identity, but I cant think of many others. Why is it that I get lost in a little game like ftl, but mass effect andromeda sends me to sleep? Outside of the indie market I cant think of many games that get me excited.

There's a whole world of big studios out there that are nothing like these.
Much thanks for that, just checked the gameplay and first thing hits me is the visual feel of FTL. Text messages explaining situation are there with choices of actions. Looks very familiar, but I see there's tons of upgrades added for research like in UFO games, overall looks bit more complex. Will definitely check it out.Ive always felt the game could be opened up a little bit by getting rid of the fleet on your back and the destination stuff. What? No, why would I? I listed several games a couple of posts higher.and yet you’re reluctant to name them?
right, which would fall into the games that are few and far between as I addressed. Youre trying to make the exceptions the rule, which I’m sorry but just isn’t the case. What? No, why would I? I listed several games a couple of posts higher.
