Don't see any possibility of Bailly going anywhere in this window. Last I heard he has a medium term injury that will keep him out almost until the next window so who would bother.

looks like Smalling is being pushed out - no minutes at all in last 2 preseason matches
Good point. It would be a good call too as Maguire offers the only good attribute Smalling has, good header of the ball. Given that unlike some of the others he can stay fit, he would probably be the only one to generate some interest from bottom half teams.

No one. If (big if) we get any offers they will no doubt be low ans we won't accept.

Bloody Darmian will still be here by the looks of it.

We all know the names from years, but what I fear we will send Tuanzebe on loan so the other team can benefit.

In any other club it would be Jones and Rojo.
In our case it can be only Smalling because for many clubs outside top6 he would be good option.
With Ed being in charge for transfer: we will not sell any of them.

Personally can’t see none of them leaving before the window shuts this Thursday. Only player I can see leaving is Lukaku.
Don't forget, its only the English market that closes, most of Europe is still open for another month.
I would hope Rojo can be shipped off to Spain or somewhere...

The amount of CBs we have and the contracts some of them are on is pretty ridiculous.

It’s going to be hard to move the likes of Smalling, Jones and Bailly. I’d only really keep Lindelof, Smalling and maybe Rojo if he’s fit from the first team CBs in our squad. But honestly don’t see Jones moving for at least the next year, Bailly is going to go down as one of the biggest blunders from our recent years as well from the looks of it

I think Jones is ahead of Smalling Rojo in Ole's pecking order, I can see Everton being able to afford a fee and the wages for either one if Zouma is staying at chelsea

Of our current lot:
  • Lindelof and Maguire are good enough to play for the club.
  • Tuanzebe is a promising back up who should make it at the club.
  • Fosu-Mensah is a promising back up who likely won't make it at the club.
  • Rojo, Bailly, Jones and Smalling aren't good enough to play for the club.
  • Fosu-Mensah and Bailly currently have significant injuries.
  • Rojo, Bailly, Jones and Fosu-Mensah have poor injury records.
From that, it makes sense to:
  • Keep Lindelof, Maguire and Tuanzebe long term
  • Keep Smalling for the short term
  • Look to sell or release Rojo and Jones immediately.
  • Look to sell Fosu-Mensah and Bailly when they are fit enough to sell.

Can't agree more. Spot on.

Smalling is poor on the ball and probably has the most value out of himself, Jones and Rojo. Bailly is going nowhere due to injury. Jones and Rojo will work hard at least, even though they bought have awful injury records. Smalling is probably the best candidate at the moment based on those factors, although personally i'd ship Rojo out.

Ideally all three of Rojo, Bailly and Jones (in that order), but Bailly ain't leaving cause he is injured, so hopefully at least one of Rojo/Jones.

I hope that Tuanzabe gets promoted to our fourth choice CB.

I think Tuanzebe will stick around and earn a place in the squad this season, he's had a really good preseason campaign.

Rojo is definitely the odd man out currently. Bailly won't is so unlucky with his injuries and I feel so bad for the man,but Im having a hard time seeing him fight his way back into the squad, he might leave in the January window unless the coaching staff still believes he can make it here.

Jones sits on a fat contract and is going nowhere. Smalling might be tempted to ask for a transfer, but he's only a prospect for lower half clubs I imagine.

Red Card for Casemiro!
Should have been Bailly but we can't sell him with his injury.
Can't see Jones or Smalling leaving. So if we can, probably Rojo (paying some of his wages).
We'll probably loan out Tuanzebe again.

If the club feel that they need to sell one of the CB's, then Smalling might be most at risk. He played less than I thought he would in pre-season, but he's the best player out of Jones, Rojo, Bailly and himself. Tuanzebe could go back on loan, but I'm sure he's against that and wants to try and break into the side. It is a strange circumstance though, as the injury to Bailly has made it almost impossible to sell him, while I don't think teams will be interested in signing Rojo or Jones. So, if the club feels the need and a good offer comes in, I wouldn't be surprised to see Smalling let go.

However, my guess right now is that we will start the season with them all. We have 27 players that need to be registered at this moment come August 9th (including Maguire). If Lukaku goes he will be replaced I'd hope, so we still need to ship out two. One will surely be Darmian, while I think the other will be a goalkeeper on loan (J.Pereira). That will be our 25 players. No need to sell if we don't have to.

Agree with most others.

Smalling could leave because he would be a good signing for many PL clubs and we have such a stupid amount of CBs we will likely accept any offers we get.
Rojo I could see going to Turkey or somewhere.
Jones should be sold but what club is mad enough to buy him? Even when his contract was almost run down there didn't seem to be interest in him.

True ... but he played in the behind the closed doors friendly ... so a little bit of a mystery.

A poster on another thread suggested perhaps Jones might cover as a central defensive midfielder - which sounds quite intriguing.

Smalling would be the best to sell. His hands-on style of defending is going to be a liability with VAR coming in.

HAs to be more than one. We have way too many CB's. It should always be three options + 1 CB formed at Man Utd Academy

In ranking of "oh god, they're on the teamsheet, they're probably going to screw something up"...

1. Bailly (sadly injured so we can' do anything)
2. Jones (I know he gets injured a chunk but he'd still be amazing for a lower half side, but I doubt he'll leave)
3. Rojo (I don't think he'll want to go, a la Sanchez)
4. Smalling (I like Smalling, he's better than he gets credit for on these forums and is far more reliable than the three listed above)

The other three are for sure worth keeping, two are starters and one is youth to be developed.

None, it’s worrying the windows pass and we can’t offload any of the deadwood. We should had got rid of Rojo at least 2 years ago.

Would hope for Rojo.
Could only see Smalling getting someone for him who could pay his wages. Doubt anyone could pay the wages of Jones and Rojo for what they offer.

Tuanzebe might go out on loan.

I really cannot imagine Rojo still being here at the end of August, but we'd get maybe £10m for him?
Surely they'd be someone in Turkey or Spain that would take him...

Smalling on the other hand, when you consider some of the inflated valuations flying around for CBs at the moment, I think we could actually command a pretty healthy fee for him, maybe £35m....?
Consider that Dunk & Tarakowski are valued at £45, Smalling has a better CV than them.

Either Rojo or Jones would be a good start, selling both in one window would be phenomenal.

Perhaps Rojo on loan somewhere if we pick up half his wages?
Cant see us wanting to loose smalling
Cant see anybody taking Jones or Bailly due to injury (record and current)
TFM is out of contract in the summer I think - perhaps he could go now but more likley he goes on a free

I guess smalling. I dont know if he was injuried, but by progressing pre seoson he gets almost no minutes. Indition is also playing style where Ole believes more in Jones and Rojo, but by Bailly injuried, i guess nobody will leave now

Despite being the best of the reserve bunch, Smalling could be gone due to his limited ball playing ability. I said in the midfield thread that I think Fellaini was gotten rid of so quickly just as much for symbolic reasons as well as football ones, i.e getting rid of the hoof ball association and the temptation to just lump it forward whenever he was on the pitch. He's had a far better United career than Jones and Rojo but Smalling could be the one that makes way. Also, good luck trying to offload Jones and Rojo with their wages/injury issues.

Worst part of the Bailly injury is that he was the most likely out as he was on the lowest wage and as a younger player had quite a bit of interest at the start of the window. I think we would have sold him to balance the books but now we are stuck and with his deal due to expire at the end of the year we have no choice but to either let him leave on a free or trigger the 2 year extension in his original contract which I am sure we don't want to do.

If we're looking for cash we might as well looking to sell Lindelof before Smalling as he'll command an even bigger fee. It would be a problem if we buy players, sell their competitors and keep the deadwood. It is like replacing Lukaku with Dybala then selling Martial instead of Lingard. Stupid.

Tuanzebe could be loaned out but I doubt that's what the OP had in mind
Smalling looks like the one who's lowest down in the pecking order
No one is stupid enough to take Jones
Bailly is off the cards
I'm gonna go with Rojo (if anyone), a deadline day buy for someone in the lesser European leagues
