Watched it again this morning - everything was about the first half and not taking our chances. Agree with you about the midfield, they were stifled second half. Ander would have made a difference, added some bite. It also shows in how few chances we created through the entire game. We should beat Palace.
Pogba's heart is not in it and it shows.
McT is a very good squad player. He is nowhere as good as Ander.
Pogba is an attacking Midfielder and playing him deeper is a waste. But we have no choice.
The heart of the team is wobbly.

Pace, pressing and running will get you so far. In the end the forwards need support from a midfield that pushes forward.

The game itself could have been won even with the issues we have.
Their goal was a deflection off AWB's back.
And of course the missed penalty.

Importantly we should not elevate Wolves. Many teams play a defensive absorbing game and try and hit on the counter.
We need to put the game away first have or at least in the first 60 minutes.

It will take two or three seasons for the fitness levels to build up to 90 minutes.

We desperately need a midfielder to come in, in Jan.

Is that what you thought when you saw him tracking back and putting in challenges, that mazy run to win the penalty and the guts to take it?

Very good game from us for 60-70min, Wolves goal was amazing and we should have won.
Only negatives is the result and our subs.
Gomes needs to be there instead of Mata.

Still highly annoyed by the result mostly due to poor finishing but I was encouraged by our overall style of play. We looked solid at the back and I think we pinged the ball about well, especially in the first half. Looking forward to how we play against Palace but we really need to work on our finishing.

We were on top for most of the game, the exception being the first 20 minutes of the second half. We clearly had the opportunities to win the game, but squandered them, so the final result was disappointing.

I'm not sure why Pogba took the penalty. His conversion rate is below par, and there doesn't seem to be a good reason for not going with Rashford.

There was a lot about the performance to like and, to be honest, getting a point at Molyneux is decent.

Very frustrating but I can see a vast improvement on last year. I think we are in for a roller coaster of a ride this year.
After reading the last twenty pages I think it is pretty even on pros and cons of the team and Ole.
IMO we are heading in the right direction. At least Ole has me yearning for the next game.
Let's smash Palace.

We went 1-0 and controlled the first half.
A brilliant goal from Wolves and they caused us problems for 15-20 mins. I mean if you are playing in the prem and you go away to anyone, 1-0 they will have a spell in the game where they will put a bit of pressure.

Being 1-0 we need to learn how to negate that situation, and we will score more goals as the team will come out alot more.

It's game week 2, id understands the immature meltdowns if we were halfway through the season, we're basically still in pre-season until after the international break where the schedule really picks up. What you said is so simple but true, just don't get all the outrage. We're not going to be pushing for the title, its 4th place we're fighting for.

Exactly, I am not sure what fans are expecting? there is way too much negativity on here.

What a change since the last time we played Wolves away where we looked shaky, boring sometimes.

Can we wait and see how we get on in the next 5 games before jumping on Shaw, Lingard, James, McT and Pogba.

Overall i was impressed by how we played, i liked our pace on the wings and full backs both played really well. James needs to stay on feet more, but he was quick and i liked how he tracked back well and showed a lot of heart. We did create a fair few chances, but lacked some killer instinct. Lots to be positive about. Cant blame Pogba for the penalty, he hit it well enough, just bad luck, it happens. Lets not criticize him too much, he played well. Lingard isn't good enough for a #10 based on what i saw last night. But i am feeling much more positive about this season than i was a few weeks ago, however our quality off the bench is a concern.

Positives:

Ole stuck to his guns and we didn’t see Matic & Co restored to the first 11.

1-1 away to Wolves isn’t the worst result, they’ll catch some of the top sides off guard.

AWB was outlandishly good, in fact the whole team was very good in the first half.

James may come in for some stick from the short-sighted, but he made it through his first start and we go from here. People were really harsh on Scholes, Giggs, Ronaldo, etc. when they got their first starts here. Not saying he’ll be that level of the player for us, and he was raw, but he got his first start behind him and can kick on.

Negatives:

I want Lingard to do well, unlike some. But he did have a really sh*** spell where he lacked concentration, looked tired, and wasn’t putting himself into the right channels, and made some me very poor decisions and passes. Needs to do a bit better.

The penalty conundrum. What bloody nonsense people make of this. I couldn’t care less if Martial and play Rock Paper Scissors for penalties. It was a pretty well taken pen by Pogs and the keeper went the right way. It happens. The uproar over a non-issue.

Well, I wish we’d got the 3 points, but, that’s football. Kick on to next week and hope Ole sticks to his guns again.

8 months on and I still done get why fellaini was moved on, once again when the going was getting tough in the second half we could have done with a warrior like fellaini in the middle of the park disrupting wolves play and causing havoc in their penalty area.

Most teams will go to Wolves & be happy with a draw, we could have and should have won. We need to find 2 mid fielders, a really good defensive mf to allow Pogba to get forward and one to create openings and help Pogba supply Martial and Rashford. As for Pogba and the penalty Ive never been happy to see Pogba take them though at least here he actually hit the ball with pace, but it was too close to the keeper and a comfortable height, but it was a good save. Also, Pogba has to stop the tricks and flicks, too often he loses the ball or gives it away. Over all I think he played better v Chelsea.

I think some measure of success and progress last night. We drew with a team who has twice last season beaten us on their own turf and but for the penalty miss we would be top of the PL this morning.
Everything positive except the final score, but much to look forward too!

We had a good game and we were unlucky not to win. Our defense looked very solid, both in possession and without the ball.

People also seem to forget how strong Wolves are at home, didn't they beat every top 6 team on Molineux last year?

I badly wanted Pogba to score, to restore confidence but also to get him more wrapped in the Ole thing. His tracking back is a bit half hearted, going through the motions but I am not sure I really want him doing that when we need creativity. When the midfield was working Ander gave him the freedom to roam and was himself box to box. Nothing Matic can offer, while Fred and Andreas don’t seem to cut it either. I think midfield will remain a selection conundrum for Ole, certainly it only needs one of them to get injured or receive too many cards and we have a serious problem.

We were unlucky, other than the free-kick and the wonder goal Wolves hardly worried me. We could and should have scored more. Will not get upset at PP for missing the penalty or even taking it.

Really liked James and his willingness to track back. Can see him developing into a great winger if he keeps working hard.

Really tired of Jesse Lingard though. He is so average and I would start Gomes of him and Mata.

Neves is a hell of a player, wish we had him. Next Summer add Neves and a number 10 (and competition for Shaw) and we should hopefully make the next step up.

After what I saw yesterday
  • Our new signings are pure class
  • We are trying to build from the back
  • DDG's distribution is improving
  • Lingard is shite and should never start but he will continue to do so cue lack of numbers
  • McTominay is far from starting XI material
  • We are 3 additions away from a quality side, 2 attackers and a midfielder
*2 midfielders and a rw.

Fixed your post

I'm really surprised to see you say this as I think it's the exact opposite, he looked well up for the game before it kicked off last night, looked like he enjoyed the Chelsea game, wanted to step up and be responsible for the pen and also looked devastated at the final whistle.

He has also played in the number 10 plenty of times and looked awful with his back to goal, he needs to be facing the goal deep but not too deep so he can see when there is space to dribble through and can do his passing. The pass to Rashford in the first half was quality, it reminded of bowls player where it just rolled across a large distance in to the perfect spot. I think he's amazing as is, the rest of the team needs to step up as has been the case since he arrived, Lingard being the main culprit and I don't even hate him, that pass from wan Bissaka that got a SLIGHT touch from Boly was criminal not score never mind not even control, the touch made it easier if anything for me.

Agreed, after the final whistle he looked very upset that his pen was saved. Even during the match, which the team should probably work on, a few heads dropped and Pogba was still shaking his five minutes after the fact.

Anyone else worried about the decision to go with a high-intensity high press when our squad depth is so nonexistent? I worry about players like Rashford and Shaw running out of steam or picking up injuries here soon, and then we're counting on Mata and Young to start for a number of weeks.

It didn't really hit me until looking at the bench options last night just how poor our squad is at the moment. We are relatively injury-free and yet our options to chase the game were Mata, Perera, and a kid.

For a point of reference, City's subs against Spurs were David Silva, Gabriel Jesus, and Majrez.

Its laughable.

Against Chelsea Maguire had to coax Pogba to join in the goal celebrations.
He did join in himself with the last goal.
I believe he will do a professional job.

If we do not get bought by the Saudis or someone like that next season, he will be off.

Would have taken a point before the game. But after really good first half, it felt more like a loss.

I feel sorry for Pogba. He is not consistent enough to carry the team by himself and he needs help. Instead, he gets McMajo and James. Do not get me wrong, I like them but we really should have added more quality to our midfield.

Maybe this theory is correct - first, we sorted out our defence, next summer we will sort out our midfield. I hope it is not too late by then.

It will be a long season.

He did his job.
My problem with Pogba outside of him being too far up his own arse is that he seems to play like we are 3-0 up in the 85th minute. I just hope he grounds himself and does the club proud, like De Gea. Because all he will be for Madrid is another club whipping boy like Bale. If they really wanted him he would be there now, same with David.

Pogba is our best player.
Too much burden on him.
It was gross negligence by the board not to get even one midfielder in.
We really should be on the hunt for a January signing to give him that boost. I don't think he deserves anything from the club but it would be in everyone's best interest to do something with that midfield.

Pogba will be among other Galacticos. That is what its about.

The Glazers have let the club go to rot.

Is there video or evidence of this? Seems like some hard core over analyzing. Pogba has had his highs and lows so far this year but his effort and teamwork has been good.

A frustrating match, either side produced a moment of quality and scored, then we created another for the pen and did'nt score it. In between I think we battled well all match and controlled most of it, however, and here was the biggest frustration, there was a lack of attacking fluidity and confidence from us, we did'nt create enough, wolves are good at closing space to prevent you playing but I just think you need to combat that by overloading them and then play around them with finesse in the space available to you, but when we attempted that we did'nt have the ability to do it, balls were miscontrolled, under hit, over hit, lack of technical quality. Can we just not use Gomes, he is made for that match, he is in the squad now and is best equipped to operate in tight spaces like that. 4 points from 6 playing chelsea then wolves away is good though when you boil it down, just think you are going to see lots more frustrating attacking play and it will put our defence under pressure too often.
