Maybe - but Andreas worked his socks off....
I think people need to realise Andreas for what he is, a good pacy worker bee who is good at pressing, offers energy but don’t expect him to be a world beater. If we continue to build he will be a squad player next year.

Couldn't agree more. Give that trio a go because it looks the most balanced, mobile and hard working of any we have right now.

Fred looked half decent coming on today. At the very least he is the type of player that fits in with our pressing style.
People (especially people here) underestimate balance. If you look at Liverpool (I try not to), some of their midfielders (Henderson and Milner) are far from world-class but provide a little something bigger names don't. Playing with the bigger names then makes them better players. Fergie had a few in his time...

Huge three points against a rival, missing key players, take that every day. Very important win.

Defensively we looked the best we've looked so far, which is a positive.

But overall that performance was no different from anything served up by Jose or LVG. Drab, lifeless and no creativity or urgency.

We have not improved at all in my opinion. We are the same team we've been since around 2015 and Ole hasn't really changed anything apart from we run a bit more.

Onto the next one, be interesting to see who gets playing time on Thursday. I hope he 'gives Youth a chance'.

We completely shut Leicester down today. Everyone grafted and we dragged ourselves to a one nil win despite us missing two key players.

Anyone criticising our players today can frankly feck off. Yeah we weren't setting the world alight in attack, but we did enough to win the game with what we have at our disposal
We needed 3 points desperately and the lads fought 90 minutes to get it. I can't see how anyone can complain either!

Its not like we have been in good form and the football has been great (other than the opener). Thats obvious, but this is an important win that can prove to be a confidence builder and step forward to better football.

Mctominay wasn't the best at passing/keeping the ball at times, but that lad ran his bollocks off and gave his all for the team. Same with all the other players. Actually proud of them even if we are frustrated at the lack of flair in our football.

Good result and the best we could hope for with these players. The lack of technical ability in some of them are laughable to witness at a club of this stature. Watching a player like Mata "running" around doing nothing and being incapable of receiving the ball under any sort of pressure while Leicester's number 10 is dominating the game just makes you realize how shit we've been on the transfer market for years.
Mata I thought was ok and at least he doesn’t lose the ball at first touch like Lingard. His problem is that he just can’t beat anyone or hold up the ball. Maddison would be a killer in our team, you can tell he oozes aggressiveness in the final third.

Fletcher was in much the same bracket.

The state of the caf is disgusting to be honest.

When we lose, sack Ole.
When we draw, season is over.
When we win, boring.
When we win 4-0, luck.

We've been really unlucky for the past 3 games, we needed to get that 3 points first. Today is the day.

Under Fergie there were dull games like these, I couldn't even bothered. At least this wasn't as bad as LVG's boring football.

We won after international break, ugly or not, its the 3 points what matters.

Good result considering the team we had available, might not have been the best to watch, at a lot of points in that game we were poor but its the result that matters.

I will take that, clearly, Leicester has the better midfield. Will like us to try and get Maddison, Fred and Chong gave us a bit more control in midfield matic was useless, mctominay was my man of the match did not shy away all game. 3 points lets move on.
Man I like Matic and really hoped he would take his claim after complaining of losing his place recently. Unfortunately he showed again why he was dropped. He is simply done. Would be much better in a slower league.

While our Defence is now very good, we have some really glaring weaknesses at center midfield, right wing and number 10.
Agree as it stands though we need a proper DM, attacking midfielder, and someone who can play Pogba's role in his abscence( since we wont play AP there for some reason)

Our squad to be good enough to handle it and still provide a bit of entertainment, would be nice
What the squad should be, and what the squad is is obviously two different things. There’s no point crying about the former when the latter has done what’s necessary.

Worth remembering that City were on the cusp of stumbling against these but for an unlikely worldie from the outgoing Kompany.

Lindelof is ok as long as there is no physical aerial threat against him.

But he looks the weak link in our back four. I wonder how long before Axel takes his place? Tuanzebe looks like an absolute unit.
He had a really good game today and was actually stronger aerially than he has been in the past. There looked to be better communication between him and Maguire as well. There was a ball that came in almost identical to the one Southampton scored from and this time Maguire made sure he was there to challenge for it and Lindelof was picking up the spare man..I noticed this happened quite a few times. Thank feck we've finally started to pick up on these things. Lindelof isn't perfect but if him and Maguire organsie themselves properly it's at least a competent centreback pairing, which is a big improvement on the chaos from last season.

We'll see how Axel copes in our squad but if he can force his way in all the better. He's a bit of an unknown though. We don't know how well he'd read the game at this level, cope with the pace, better quality of players, etc.

The weak link in our back four today was Young, even though I thought he had a decent game. He just panics too much. If you watched the game without knowing you'd think Bissaka was the 30 year old experienced defender of the two. Although I did enjoy Young's timewaste trolling by constantly winning throw ins then pretending over and over that he doesn't know how to take them.

I’ve decided to sleep through games and just read post match comments. Best decision I’ve made all year.

Manchester United did with this performance. I get up every damn morning (I live in United States) to watch this team and support them. I don't expect titles, it's ok to be second/third. I expect fight, performance that looks like I am supporting a team, not bunch of discombobulated individuals. Is that too much to ask for? I might be a bad fan, and should just support this team no matter what. I mean off course I will continue to support them, but man I want to see a fight. I want to see desire, grit, I want to see a damn team out there trying to represent the colors of Manchester United. We have two legends as our coaches, we have decent group of players to give us performance much better than this.
Oh shit you're serious?

Glad we got over the line with 3 points, we definitely needed that.

I see flashes of good play from this team but we really struggle to put together/maintain periods of quality football, probably a lot to do with personnel.

He is a good squad player and should be put on EVERY set piece possible.

I just wish he would realise how good his crossing is and do it more often.

Very good win against a tough opponent. Maguire was fantastic against Vardy, very impressed with Young as well. Still a lot to improve on but was an excellent win when we didn’t have our best game and with a lot of injuries.

Its a great result, especially considering our injuries and recent form. Really needed to start picking up wins again.

What he said @meamth

Also, we lacked some quality in attack today but that's understandable with our most creative players (Pogba, Martial and to some extent, Shaw) injured.

We were top class in defense. Literally no pundit/ pre match buildup discussion predicted a United win today. Everyone was going for a score draw. Limiting a good team to half chances says a lot about the desire I want to see from a United team.

We started the season with good performances and poor results. So it's good to get a win when we didn't particularly look like creating much.

We're nowhere near what City are doing in other games though. We're poor even with no injuries. Negativity is warranted, 3 points or not, even if you choose not to be. And it's ok to complain about where the squad is at.

Happy to get the 3 points, Leicester fans need to humble themselves they’re not as good as they think they are.

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.

I wish we would make our minds up, is it the result that matters or how we play? Because we were rubbish again, this time against Leicester at home

Boring match but clean sheet and took all 3 points.

McTominay was brilliant.

Something needs to change though, can't be getting dominated at home by Leicester.

Fair assessment. I'm by no means saying Lindelof is crap. Just that with our revamped defence, he actually went from being our best defender to being potentially the odd man out.

I noticed the change that Maguire made in picking up behind Lindelof. But that one saving header he had was a direct result of yet another missed header by Lindelof, if my memory serves me correctly. I just yearn for the day when both our centrebacks can clear that type of ball first man. Which is why I think Axel would be the better option, but of course he isn't "premier league proven". However, if Dan James can come in with such an impact, I don't see why Axel can't do the same. Villa were promoted with him being an integral part of the team and he drew rave reviews.

Its definitely encouraging that we finally kept the clean sheet we deserved and that the defence is shaping up nicely. I might be biased towards our homegrown lads but I hope Axel eventually takes Victor's place and partners Maguire in the long term. For me he is just much more imposing and confident, which suits the premier league.

Just to make you lot even less happy: on this day 56 years ago a youngster made his debut for United. His name was George Best...

That's the problem, though. He's never anything more than just ok, and he's the number 10 in a team that is crying out for some creativity, especially when Pogba is not on the pitch to bail them out, yet he never really does anything. It's a fecking mystery how he's gotten 7-8 years at this club. We could/should do so much better.

yup... he was one of those I was thinking of
McTominay looks like a reincarnation to be honest.

At 22 years of age, Darren was the whipping boy and favorite target of blame for most Manchester United fans. By the time he got to 26-27 he was one of the first names on the team sheet and deservedly so. Just a shame that illness cut that short.

Fergie was right to stick with him in the end :)

Give Dylan Levitt a chance as no. 10 if Ole wants some creativity in the team. At least play him for 10 mins and see how he does.

I've figured that Young is decent for a maximum of 3-4 matches on the trot. Also you MUST play him on the left side.

When is Shaw back? :nervous:
Yeah, Young is decent on the left when used sparingly. Need to get Dalot back so we have more options on the right (and can figure out if he’s actually a defender).

Yes, agreed. Some people said it was boring?

I'm a United fan, seeing a gritty performance like that and seeing us holding on is entertaining as winning 3-0.

It's not like the players doesn't give a feck about trying to score, they did and it was a difficult game.

I'm just disappointed with the caf.

If people are expecting us to be consistently at the same level as City that’s on them. The point was that even City, who are several levels above us, struggled against this very decent Leicester side. Negativity is fair but maybe not after beating Leicester given the injuries?
