Players we could sign right now

The undercard
Why would people think that we will be making signings in January?
We had all summer to sign players, we had since last December to line up our targets.
Everyone knew we needed major investment, because our squad (like it or not) was piss poor.
6 players was a minimum requirement to be remotely competitive and we got 3 with a net investment of 70 million.

I've said this before, We are not interested in challenging for the title. It would cost too much. We can make more money by not investing huge amounts and merely trying for 4th.
The math has been done. This is our model. We are not what you remember.

And if you want any further proof of this, look at the state of this thread! Giuseppe Rossi? Ben Arfa? FFS! :annoyed:

Why didn't we go for Llorente on a free?
We should have. I can't imagine his wage demands would have been ridiculous, and he's shown that he's happy to play back-up to a main striker. Nothing would have stopped us from having him AND Greenwood on the bench in some games, so the latter would still have gotten game time.

Dani Olmo and Ziyech are realistic January targets as suggested. We should be able to hang on till January and get proper quality like those. There's no point buying any player that isn't proven quality going forward. That's how we got here in the first place. It's not like we're about to win anything. Might as well build properly towards getting back to where we belong. Look where it got Liverpool...

Exactly. Certainly would have been useful yesterday.

Ziyech and Zaha would be my picks. We need goalscorers and especially from wide areas
You're looking at close to 100m for Zaha (unless he has a buy-back?), and I think he'd be very hesitant to come back here.

Unless he does indeed have a buy-back clause, getting him in January would be close to impossible.

Not sure about the wage demands. Tottenham were paying him 90k a week and apparently his decision to move on this summer is because he would not take less than that to stay. I don't personally think he is worth 90k but then again we are paying useless lumps like Phil Jones a lot more than that to warm the bench and we sure could have done with Llorente on Sunday.

We should sign Sisto from Celta Vigo.

Then finally we could adopt a Sisto-Matic approach to our problems in midfield.

Ziyech was available for 35m in the summer. Considering our sheer lack of options, it’s lunacy we didn’t go for him as I said in his thread.

I haven’t seen much of him but Alex Telles from Porto is highly rated and we need a left back.

Bruno Fernandes would be available if we wanted to pay his fee.

Depending on the fee I wouldn’t say no to Calum Wilson either.

Plenty of players available.

There's a reason why Giuseppe Rosdi is a free agent.

Longstaff is the only player we have a tiny chance to get in January.

In the summer we'll be in for the likes of McGinn, Sancho, Maddison, David Brooks etc but won't have it all our own way........ in the same way everyone thought we'd easily sign Koulibaly, Sancho, Rice and Ruben Neves, before last summers window opened.

We should have picked up Sturridge on a free in the summer

Why limit ourselves. City’s squad cost a billion USD. According to Forbes the entire PSG club is only worth a billion. That’s a pittance compared to our value of 4 billion. We should buy PSG, swap squads in January, and a CL spot is ours.

We have a 25% on Zaha which means we will get him for around 50-60m.

Isnt Ben arfa a free agent, would still have him on the right over lingard, he at least has moments of brilliance in him compared to lingard's constant average to poor performances
the Sun mention him too

Is that even a real thing? Can teams just sign free agents outside of transfer windows? If that's possible then why can't two teams willing to do business just agree on releasing a player to free agency and the other team sign him as free agent?
yes it is. I think the rules probably ban allowing someone to just become a free agent. I guess only if you are a free agent at the time the window closes, are you a free agent

Wait. Give the kids some match time. Get the right players at the right time, and accept that it's a long game.
A lot of our problems now come from getting someone in to fill a hole (often someone the wrong shape for the
hole in question) and making do - that's not good enough.

Apparently we didn't sign Bruno Fernandes because he lost the ball too much. Might be why we didn't sign Ziyech either.

Agree, not buying Bruno is one of the club's most stupidest decisions ever. We get rid of decent players in midfield like Herrera and Fellaini who can score vital goals and press, without replacements. Fred and Lingard are not up to the job and should be playing in lesser leagues. Absolutely short mindedness at its height, and to say that Bruno loses the ball too much when he can score more goals as a midfielder than all our forwards combined.
That's why I think both Oly and Woodward are just simply stupid and amongst many other failings need to leave.

The revisionism going on in this thread is frankly laughable. Herrera was distinctly average during his time at the club, and Fellaini was a hindrance more often than not, but the moment they leave the club they are automatically viewed as decent players.

None of Smalling, Herrera, Fellaini, Lukaku or Sanchez are a loss to the club. Bang-average players stealing a living is all they were.

While Herrera wasn’t a world beater he certainly was an important cog to our team and our form was awful after he (andnothers) got injured.

Agree about the rest though, not getting the replacements is what has killled us.

Would much rather wait and get the right man in. Signing free agents at this stage is short term fix at best, plus given most of them will have just been making up the numbers training at local clubs, it's unlikely anyone of them would be fully match fit and ready to step straight in. There's also the financial side, being free agents they generally want big signing on fees, then you have them on contracts for however long they sign for taking up space on the wage bill. Think it's better to ride out the storm and go for the players we need in January/Summer.

We'd be very lucky if all the kids end up good enough to be competing for big trophies, and that could be 5+ years off. Getting the right players is key, but it needs to be done asap, or we'll be forever just plugging holes while new issues arise.

Victor Osimhen from Lille.

Quick, hard worker and a great finisher. Taken to Ligue 1 like a duck to water and shouldn't be too expensive.

Josip Brekalo

Doing well really for Wolfsburg recently. can play either side, good dribbler and passer, and starting to score a lot more.

These are the type of players we need to aim for right now, good players with plenty of potential that are hungry.

Bruno Fernandes - Not much needed to say, he might not be perfect but he's better than what we have currently.

I personally think our "scouting" has been far too picky. We aren't happy unless they're the perfect player but seem to forget our current squad isn't much to shout about.

I am all for giving kids a chance, but with Greenwood injured, we might have to give a chance to the kids of kids

Aren't Lille pretty secure financially? They don't need to sell and if they do, sell for big fee like Pepe

We are joking but the Glazers took about 1 billion out of the club; we could have literally bought PSG with the money that was leached out. Makes you think.
