Martyn Pert has been drafted in to beef up Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching team at Manchester United, while goalkeeper coach Emilio Alvarez has left the club after three years. Alan Fettis has stepped up from the U23s to work with United’s first team, working under Hartis.

Andrew Meredith has come in as Analysis Operations Manager. In the performance department, Michael Clegg has been appointed Strength and Power Coach, Ed Leng as Lead Sports Scientist and Charlie Owen has been promoted to first team fitness coach.

In the coaching team, Hartis returned as Senior Goalkeeping Coach. In the Academy, Nick Cox has been promoted to overall boss, with Nicky Butt taking on a new job as Head of First Team Development, while Neil Wood was promoted to U23 boss with Quinton Fortune as his assistant.

Hopefully Martyn Pert can add things to our play style in a positive way. His experience at the Vancouver white Caps, Cardiff City and Bahrain will hopefully be useful..:wenger:

Hardly know any of them, apart from Fortune and Alvarez. Should we be excited? Or should I tune in with the doom and gloom mood of the car?

Ole is obviously taking guys in at or below his level, so that he can still be smarter than them. He found the best guy for that job, it must have been pretty difficult to find someone as qualified

They joined MLS 10 years ago. They were founded in the 70s.

Have had players such as Alan Ball and Peter Beardsley.
Aye, Lorimer as well. Cheers, didn't really know them. My knowledge of the MLS of that era ends up with the likes of Muller, Figueroa, Pele and Beckenbauer playing their trade there :)

I wonder what Ole saw in this guy. He must have done something revolutionary to those teams.

Bollocking about fluently.
We've now got Pert Butt and Cox on the staff, what can possibly go wrong?
I'm pretty certain Butt can be a good match for Cox - if Cox manages to make a smooth entry at least and doesn't prove too pushy. Where Pert would fit in though I'm not quite sure - I'm worried he might find himself somewhat sidelined then end up getting in someone's face causing all sorts of trouble (I'm so sorry but this had to be done ).

Is this for real? I'll leave my final judgement til the guy gets his chance, but in first sight it's not at all an impressive hire. For me it's the player-equivalent of us signing Bebe, maybe Smalling if we're generous.

Good Heavens! We have now become a laughing stock. How on Earth can someone like that bring any positive experience in football?
We are Manchester United and not some small club in Norway.

Looks like people will have opinion on everything no matter if they know the exact role each of them play in the background.

Rene is talked as the best coach we had in last 10-20 years and before joining ManUtd, he was managing Qatar U18s, Al-Saad going by wiki. Then he was appointed as ManUtd youth coach who was promoted to first team.

MARTYN PERT has been drafted in to beef up Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching team at Manchester United, while goalkeeper coach Emilio Alvarez has left the club after three years.

Pert is highly qualified as both a coach (holding the Uefa Pro Licence) and sports scientist (with a Masters in sports science) and has worked in prominent positions in several countries around the world.

Solskjaer was eager to augment his coaching team and the Englishman was identified as being experienced, innovative and available. With coaching and sports science also becoming increasingly intertwined in the modern game, his dual experience was regarded as a big plus.
In the article it's also mentioned he is Sports scientist, who are those great sports scientist at other clubs? Or how many great coaches we know from other clubs?

Mike Phelan was assistant manager for SAF who won leagues so easily, now Phelan is the assistant manager under Ole who is struggling. Does that make Phelan great assistant for winning leagues or poor on for struggling in the league?

Answer is no one knows. Don't see why ManUtd fans can't wait to write everyone off (without knowing what's their role) just because we are struggling in the league. Wonder if this is the case at any other club, where people start to blame everyone from tea lady to coaching staff.

Which coaches would you have liked to see us hire?

Googling his name gave following article. Let's hope for some positive impact and give new coaches some time instead of just writing off from start.

What do you expect? Half of the posters on this forum still have their parents wipe their arse for them let alone understanding football coaching. David Moyes coached Everton and Manchester United. On paper his credentials are amazing but if shit it my hand and threw it on a wall i'd probably develop a better game plan than that clown...

The reality is very few coaches start at big teams in any sort of capacity without either being a former player or working their way up from u18's and reserves in bit part roles.

Someone who has experience in being a coach in Europe either at youth level or academy or at a decent size club. I don't think Carrick and McKenna are bad coaches.
I would have preferred someone like Quiroz to be the assistant of Ole.

Good post, it is tiresome coming here now, I swear half the posters are rival fans having a laugh.
Regarding the Guardian article, very interesting and he certainly looks promising- Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese..

A simple google search turns up his profile on the Vancouver website...
A coach with a wealth of experience both as an assistant coach and fitness coach, Martyn Pert joined Vancouver Whitecaps FC as assistant coach on January 27, 2014.

Hailing from Norfolk, England, Pert has previously served as an assistant coach with English Premier League outfit Cardiff City FC, Football League Championship side Coventry City FC, and the Bahrain senior men’s national team.

The former Norwich City FC youth player joined Cardiff City in the summer of 2013 as an assistant coach/head of conditioning to help the 2012-13 Football League Championship winners prepare for their debut season in the English Premier League. At Cardiff, Pert was also responsible for player recruitment, opposition scouting, the planning and implementation of team training sessions, as well as match-day tactics and strategy.

Prior to his post at Cardiff, Pert spent 13 months as an assistant coach with the Bahrain senior men’s national team. Under former Leicester City FC and England U-21 manager Peter Taylor, Pert helped Bahrain win two tournaments: the 2011 Arab Games and the 2011 Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Games – the first time Bahrain’s national team had won a regional competition.

A graduate of Loughborough University’s Sport & Exercise master’s program, Pert has held head of conditioning/sports science positions with Watford FC, Fulham FC, and Cardiff City FC. With Cardiff and eventually Watford, Pert served the duel-role as head of conditioning and assistant coach.

Additionally, Pert was the reserve team manager with both Watford FC and Coventry City FC.

The 36-year-old, who has also previously served as a youth coach with Cambridge United FC, Norwich City FC, Cambridge City FC, and West Bromwich Albion FC, is fluent in Spanish and holds a Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Pro License – the highest and final coaching qualification available.

No idea who these people are. I expected us to take a few Kebab owners from the street of London to help our backroom staffs tbh. So this isn't so bad.

Hopefully Michael Clegg is as good of a strength and conditioning coach as his dad was for us.

Nothing to back up my theory, but i always felt our players were not as well conditioned after Mick Clegg left.

One of the most embarrassing threads on here. Some of the initial comments are an embarrassment.

They deserve a bit more respect than that.

The competitiveness in these environments means that some of these people are actually the very best or close to it in their respective fields. The way some posters degrade these professionals is fecking disgraceful when they're miles more intelligent and successful than the vast majority on this forum will ever be.

At least we recognize that our backroom staff is not up to standards, I suppose.

I would have preferred someone more experienced, though.

So I'm degrading them because I don't know them? I said this isn't so bad because I expected the board to do worse.

I'm sure even Moyes is also more intelligent and successful than the majority on this forum, or the internet in general.
