When someone is “adjudged” to have been offside...

When a shot is struck with “real aplomb”.

Ugh

When commentators talk about players being in "a foot race". How do they normally get around the pitch, segway?

(during a player faking injury, taking ages over a throw in, or taking 90 seconds to leave pitch after being subbed off)
"The ref will just add this time on"
(always said with an unjustifiable amount of certainty)

"There was contact" when analysing a foul, especially in the box. It's not a non contact sport, and contact isn't always a foul. Tell me if it's a foul or not, that's what's been adjudicated.

Are there any phrases or jargon that you often see when describing football in forums especially Redcafe which you really can't stand? I'll start of with the famous three...

1) "Clearing the deadwood".

2) "Steadying the ship."

And the creme de la creme..

3) The United way.

I mean what the feck does that even mean? What is the United way?! Is employing ex-players and legends as manager and backroom staff the United way? Is playing attacking football with exciting wingplay the United way? Lots of other clubs managed to do that, so why is it the United way? By that logic, should we be calling Klopp's gegenpressing the Liverpool way?

So yeah, sorry about the short rant but I seriously cringe whenever I see the above phrases being mentioned on here.

Are there any more to add?
More too often now we hear:-
"Glazers out"
"Woodward out"
"Your getting sacked in the Morning"

The Songs/Chants back in Fergies time were something else.

" Park Park"
" Light a Bonfire"
"UNITED" " UNITED"

"he has to adapt to a new environment"

As if you suddenly can't place a 2 yard pass anymore, because some of your team mates speak a different language.

Imagine if they did add on time for every player feeling a touch and collapsing, to the time they eventually take the free kick.

Every game would be 140 mins long.

"The Real Madrids, Barcelonas, Bayern Munichs of this world"

There's only one of each you dope.

Equally annoying when referencing players.
A particular favourite of pundits is saying that midfielders don’t compare to the Scholes’, the Gerrards or the Lampards etc. So F’in annoying!

Being 2 nil down (a deficit) isn't dangerous no.

But being 2 nil up (a lead) is.
Being 2 - 0 down is dangerous and being 2 - 0 up is safe.

As I say, it grinds my gears that it can be interpreted in any other way.

"Champions League football" is constantly used in place of "Champions League qualification", which sounds so stupid. It's not exactly going to be "Champions League rugby", is it?

You may as well just say "Champions League", because contextually it makes complete sense.

When footballers answer questions with “yeah/no”

Which one is it dipshit
Or “er” every other word, followed by “you know” and the best “er, yeh, you know”.
And these are the English born and bred. If it wasn’t for football I really do think that the majority of players would be CRO members because you couldn’t employ them to do anything else.

‘Saved by the post / crossbar / woodwork...’

The woodwork never saves a GK or a team, it doesn’t keep the ball out. If there were no posts & a ball went over the location where the post would be, it’s just a goal kick. Same thing with an imaginary crossbar (harder to imagine & recreate, though).

Remove them & shots that cross those intersection points are just goal kicks.

"He needs a rest" - 3-4 weeks into the season, playing once a week.

Player-stat tweets

-63% pass accuracy
-1 dribble completed
-1/15 aerial duels won
-14 clearances
-1 shot off target

"Promising"

People love to talk about "the football club" as well. Which is annoying.

The "No Epl experience" argument against signing player from outside the league.
Given our recent perceived preference towards signing players from the EPL or with a british nationality, most other players are disregarded due to the fact that they have no EPL experience. If this was an argument based on the players ability as a footballer, suitability to play a certain style of football etc then that is fair game, but the value some people put on having played in the EPL is impressive.

If it hasn't been mentioned: 'Back of the net'. If you've put a ball into the 'back' of the net, you've most definitely not scored.

When commentators begin or end a sentence with, 'no disrespect'.

Sometimes after describing a team that has been and should've been beaten. Or a player playing for a smaller club who could play for a bigger one.
Case in point. 'James Maddison is quality, I can see him moving to a bigger club in the summer, no disrespect to Leicester.'

Yes I'm looking at you, Ray 'Limited Vocabulary' Parlour.

Clubs honesty do not care whether you disrespect them or not. I know because they all told me. Arseh**e.
