I refuse to believe that Ole went into this season thinking "this is fine". There's absolutely no squad depth. He may be tactically clueless, but even an average-joe like me can see that the team is way too thin to last a whole season.

Ole did show promise in the transfer window, getting 3/3 right. If he gets another midfielder and a striker in the next window and get those correct as well, I bet we won't look that bad all of a sudden.

Last thing this club needs is another wrong appointment. Firing a manager mid-season only to appoint a freshly fired maanger that got replaced by the guy we fired last time around.. Ye, i'd be careful with that.
Nobody is asking the club to sack Solskjaer and hire Paul Ince. But Pochettino is in another stratosphere altogether.

I would like to see the club managed by someone with the proven credentials fit to be in charge. Not a plant by the owners to placate fans, with no relevant qualifications, that's just happy to be here.

Is that too much to ask?

So you were happy having Ashley freaking young as our first choice RB.
No. I was happy with Ethan Laird to be given the opportunity to claim the RB spot so we could invest instead at LB. Laird is the biggest fullback talent from the academy and I predict he will be our first choice fullback within 18 months.

3/3 right? Who chose to spend £130m on Maguire & AWB, whilst ignoring midfield and attack with 4 first team'rs that needed replacing come summer?

2 clean sheets out of 13 pl matches so far.

I wouldn't be so sure.

Are things drastically worse than you were expecting at the start of the season given the squad we have? What were you expecting for this season, what do you see as realistic for this team particularly given the glaring midfield shortage and the injuries we've had to key players thus far?
The squad we have by the way is a decision of the manager. Granted, we couldn't stop Herrera from leaving but we sure could have found a replacement considering we knew he was leaving. We could gave also kept Lukaku for one more year untill we got a suitable replacement next year. He is very likely to guarantee goals than Rashford or Martial. Smalling too could have played a part here and there. We could have bought a midfielder instead of Maguire considering we just loaned Smalling out and then pushed for a defender next year. The decision to prioritise one area over the other is all on the manager.

As for injuries, they are nothing strange at all or peculiar to us. When you make planning for a seaosn, you factor in the possible scenarios. For a manager that is described as 'knowing the club inside out', he sure knows that Pogba, Luke Shaw, Martial and Jones have proven to be susceptible to injuries over the course of a season. Why did he not get replacements for them? even if it meant buying bit-part players to fulfill those demands. Instead he harped all summer about not finding the 'right type of players' (whatever that means) considering we could have made deals for Bruno Fernandes for instance if we really wanted to. Manchester United is not the only club that deals with injuries. You make provisions for them at the beginning of the season!

I expected some progress in our pattern of play and a 4th-5th finish, some blueprint of what Ole is trying to achieve with us. I have seen nothing to suggest the fellow knows what he is doing. That is the biggest gripe I have with him. The man looks clueless!

Had we not signed Maguire and AWB, guys like you would have complained saying how didn't he address the RB position and is still playing Smalling and Jones as CB. Truth is we needed a big window and we did not get that. Expecting to fix everything with a net spend of 75m is not going to happen.

How is praising the team for getting the lead after beeing down 0-2 sackable?

He is saying that they have improved massivly mentally and probably learned alot from this game, and i for one agree with him.

Some people are just looking for clickbait ffs.
No he's saying that the team made big strides since last season, where he reckons last year, he'd have expected the team to concede 4-5 goals. So only conceding 3 goals is a step in the right direction in his deluded small time mind.

Jamie Carragher: “If this continues into Christmas/January, this is Manchester United, 1 win in 11 away from home, with a guy like Pochettino who could take this club forward, they would not be doing their job properly if they weren’t in contact with him”

I had a worrying debate with a poster last week that said that Poch shouldn’t even be compared with Ole, only other candidates. Thing is, our main issue, along with Woodward is Ole and his bang average coaching staff. Our fan base is full of people that think we should continue with Ole because there’s nobody worthy available, when our current manager wouldn’t even be hired by a relegation threatened side. Incredible delusion.
This baffles me too. A manager who will never be hired by any other EPL club is the manager of Manchester United and yet people think there is no one else who could do a better job. They make it look like Ole is the best manager we could get. The support for the man is beyond stupid despite glaring evidence that he is a managerial buffoon!

His sub of putting Greenwood for Periera turned the game for us.

Then he decided to feck it up completely with going full defensive with Tuanzebe sub.

I don't get it. Terrible decision that ruined a great comeback he would have got credit for.

Anyway it feels better than losing 2-0 at least. The atmosphere won't be shite and fortunately we have some easy games coming.
Honestly if he had kept Tuanzebe on the bench and they had scored then he would be getting the same abuse . In my eyes he made the right call to put on a extra defender and try and get the 3 points . Don't forget we still had Greenwood Rashford James Lingard on the pitch so it's not like we went totally defensive

The sub came when we were totally all over them and the momentum was with us. It was the wrong timing to make a defensive setup. A stupid mistake plain and simple. Timing of subs is extremely important, as important as the sub itself.

You referred to the period before Solskjaer as:

Have you followed his period since permanent manager at all? He has 25 points from 21 games in the league so far.

That equals 45 points overall. That gets you 13th place in 3/5 past seasons.

If these performances are the team giving maximum effort, everyone needs to be sacked on the spot then.

Jones, Young, Mata, Lingard next in line soon i expect are not easy pay checks?

We have brought in a dof have we? Am i missing something or have we still got the same setup that was present under the previous managers?

We spent big on the defence with Maguire. We have had 2 clean sheets in 13 pl matches.

Look at the nonsense our manager is making after games, ''last season we would have gone 4 or 5 behind, massive progress''. Oh yeah we never came back from 0-2 and won 3-2 vs Newcastle a few weeks before Mourinho's sacking did we?

So i would ask you what has actually changed?

What evidence do you have to point to, that makes you ''confident we're doing the right thing''?

I have asked you and it seems you can't give me a proper answer, so the only explanation is, it must be a fantasy that is in your head.
Fine, I’ll bite.

1) I’m obviously not referring to league points as a metric of progress, but I suspect you know that already.

2) Yes, some new contracts were handed out, its time to get over it. You would be on here crying anyway if we hadn’t and left ourselves with an even thinner squad for the season.

3) DoF? Obviously Ole at fault for that

4) I’m quite happy with our summer transfers. If you think defenders alone = clean sheets then I’m afraid you don’t really know how football works, so let’s leave that one.

5) The quote from Ole is unfortunate, but what do you expect? Publicly roast a bunch of young players? That’s certainly the Mourinho thing to do, which worked well for him.

6) I said I’m confident we’re doing the right thing yes. It’s my opinion, why would I need evidence for that?

Absolutely astounded by the boss and his post match comments. Reminds me of when moyes said something along the lines of "we aspire to play like Liverpool". Thought's like that should stay in his head. He won't endear himself.

It was a poor move for many reasons. The main issue that I had was the timing was not correct. We were literally all over SFU and there was no way they looked to even string one or two passes together before that sub. That sub just gave them the belief that United are retreating. We should have made that sub around 90th minute. For the whole game were pretty poor defensively so why would you ask us to be defensive in the last 5 odd mins.

Also, taking Martial off meant we had no one to hold the ball upfront as rashford as number 9 cannot hold the ball as well as Martial. It was a naive move which backfired big time.

It was a pretty logical move to make at the time. It obviously backfired in hindsight, but that’s a sub most, if not all managers would and do make.

Of course its easy to say we should have gotten a midfielder in hindsight (we should have), but its not like a CB and RB was not needed either. Rojo/Jones/Baily cant be trusted as they are all rash and incredibly injury prone and Smalling is hopeless on the ball to the extent that hes a downright liability if you try to play from the back

And Pogba has a terrific injury record, since 14/15 he has missed a grand total of 25 games, this season alone he has missed 13 from his ankle injury. Same with Martial, since 13/14 he has missed 22 games total from injury/illness. Those two are not injury prone players.Martial. Pogba The last thing we need now is more "bit-part players" (read: Deadwood) bloating our squad

No one knows for sure why we did not get more players in the summer. Considering Ole got to spend far less (net) than LvG and Jose who usually spent around 150 million net is a mystery. Maybe Woody demanded we slashed the wage bill?

You’ve not really shown anything have you, rather just moaned about Jones and Young getting a new contract and posted a quote from Twitter.

Me personally, I think the club is progressing. We’re hard working, we’re focusing on youth, we’re fighting. We’re also lacking quality, but I’m more confident that we’ll bring in that quality and they will actually perform.

Ole might not be the right man in the long term, time will tell. I’m confident we’re doing the right thing right now though. So I’ll continue to be optimistic for the future, you can carry on with your whining pity party. Toodles.
I'd agree with this ... We are no where near as bad as some people on here would want us to believe . We haven't had our main 1st team on the pitch many times this season and hopefully we will do soon .. For the 1st time since Fergie left I can see signs of us starting to look in the right direction. Firstly by getting rid of players we should have a long time ago and hopefully this summer we will see Jones Young and one or two others leave . Our summer signings have been decent and with a couple better midfielders things will look better .. I'm patient because we can't cure the mess of the past 6 seasons in a few months ... LVG and Jose are two world class managers yet struggled with Ed and the Glazers .. Our problems arnt with Ole they are with those above him

What hindsight ? If you're making a defensive sub when you're leading by 1 goal then you're asking for trouble. It might or might not have led to a goal, but it was stupid nevertheless. You don't throw your momentum away to the opposition when you had just got it and just leading by 1 goal. We also made it at spare of 5 minutes from end of main times. The goal was just the punishment we deserved. It might not have come but we deserved it.

why should fans complain if we did not buy Maguire but bought another top CB and a mindfield player? Look at Leicester. They bought the Turkish CB for 24 and Tielemans for 40 and that is only 64. We spend 80 on Maguire. He could have killed two birds with one stone for cheaper. He would have a top class defender and a very good midfield player and still have a change of 16 or so million to spare.

If you think its really that plain and simple, then you really haven't been paying attention. First of all, despite scoring three in succession, Sheffield were still in the game and it was back and forth. Some of you are making it like we were dominating until the Axel sub, that's false. Second, it was a reaction to Wilder putting on Callum Robinson for a defender. If Ole just sat there and waited like you wanted, and we conceded, he'd be called clueless.

We actually played well after Axel came on. We slowed down the tempo and kept possession, and we used to do that all the time under SAF.

Well, you know what hindsight means?

We’d just smashed and grabbed the lead in a match we were second best in by far. Tightening up, considering the attacking lineup at the time, is a pretty standard move. But it didn’t work out.. in hindsight.

If he hadn’t of made the change and they equalised anyway, he’d probably be criticised for that too.

That's your opinion but like I said he would have been recieving exactly the same abuse if he had kept 5 forward minded players on the pitch . We wouldn't have kept pushing forward because that is human nature we where on a roll because we needed goals . We got them so then it's natural to sit back and try and control the game and run out the clock .. If you think we would have kept attacking like we did at 2.0 or 2.1 then you don't watch much football

Many of us said it this summer and before that too, it has little to do with hindsight.

Who cares about what happened before our 3 goals. When we scored all 3 we were full on momentum, they completely collapsed, lost their legs and didn't look like returning to the game at all. Otherwise they wouldn't have conceded 3 in a row in 10 minutes. Press more and we would have scored at least one goal easily. Instead we decided to give them a chance to regroup and regain momentum at the end of the game. We might not have scored but we brought them back into the game. It was the punishment we deserved.

I'm going to make a similar claim as the last line and say bring any other manager in the world to manage United and make him a similar sub in a similar timing and he would have been slaughtered for a being a coward, not getting excused.

The culture of consistent failure, easy pay checks, big names, little effort, and a setup which generally led to the vast majority of our transfers flopping.

We’ve been a laughing stock, a joke of a club because we spent big, made flashy headlines and we’re shit as a result. Players clearly didn’t care. I’m sure there’s a lot of people to blame for it as well, unless you’re naive enough to think Woodward handles all aspects of football and commercial.
This description fits our current situation under Ole!

We did dominated them during that 10 minutes. They looked like they had no fitness to go on and were collapsing. Yes, the previous 70 minutes they were better, but they were collapsing. We gave them a chance to come back to the game. It was a bad move, at a bad timing too, with good amount of numbers to be played. Should have made this at +90 minutes or so to waste time.

Klopp brought on Gomez for Firmino after his late goal on Saturday. Clueless manager.

I disagree, it looked like we had momentum because they were countering and then we were countering back, the pace of the game was frantic. They did not look like collapsing neither physically nor mentally, but they did look a bit open at the back. However when Wilder changed the shape and brought on an extra striker, who knows how the game would've went. They were clearly going to throw everything at us and put us under siege, the question is should Ole keep waiting and hope to hit them on the counter while putting his own back four at risk, or make his sub with five minutes to go.

I’m gonna wait till after January to start ripping him apart. When he has a new midfielder and Pogba back we’ll see what he’s actually made of. I’m guessing not much.

His tactics yesterday were shocking. Patience is running really low and anymore of that and he may not even make in to the transfer window.

Pogba won't play for United again mate, pretty sure he'll go in January. I'm not even convinced he's injured.

It's quite interesting to read the fanfare that greeted Ole's appointment. Let this be a lesson to you all:

https://www.redcafe.net/threads/ole-gunnar-solskjær-permanent-manager.446090/
He is not good enough for us. I comment what i see on the pitch. Simple as that. I see defensive counter attacking football. I see that we are outplayed by teams like Wolves, Leicester or Watford. I see that we can't keep the ball. I see that he gave new contracts to player who are not good enough to be in Man Utd. I see a manager who basically had lots of luck in his first 2 months.

I will be delighted if i am wrong. God, please that i am wrong in this.
Sometimes it sucks when you are right
