He is not a 'builder' though. Both Arsenal and Milan are very poor these days and require major surgery - this is not Ancelotti's strength and in any case, the funds might not even be there at either club.

Can't blame Chelsea or PSG for going with riskier but more interesting options. Especially PSG where he was disappointing.

Past trophies aren't everything, people. You'd think we learned that with Van Gaal.
Yep, you definitely have a point here about Ance's style of management.

However i still think he hasnt been past his prime yet. You see VG's latest and only Champions League was decades ago, meanwhile we're talking about the most decorated manager in CL history and his most recent success was just 4 years ago. Not to mention about league titles (i know Ance wasnt actually good at it but he still managed to win trophies in 4 different countries and the last one was about last season).

At PSG no excuse for the way he bottled Ligue 1 in the first season, however he won it a year after. In the end, that was Ance himself asking to leave for a better choice. PSG never wanted him to go in the first place, i remember that Al Khelaifi was so desperate to keep him when Real made their approach.

In fact i think the current PSG squad is perfectly suited to Ance. Big names, big personalities demand a harmony management, which is the most important first thing that i dont think Tuchel with his previous internal outbursts could handdle properly. In contrast, Ance has been very familiar with these kinds of jobs given his success spells at similar Chelsea 2010 or Real 2014.

I think sooner or later Ance'll be given his chance at one of the top clubs for the final time and he'll take that shot in a glorious way, just like the amazing profile throughout his career. So we shall see

AVB was a very different scenario though, he tried to clear out or minimize major squad members before they had reached the end of their careers, and without any real kind of transition to that. They fought back and he lost, because he hadn’t built up the trust and respect in the squad to pull it off.

The reason Sarri sounds so appealing (and I know very little about him to be honest, just what I’ve read up on since the rumours started), is that he sounds like a manager who is happy to work with an existing squad, works outrageously hard with each player to get the best out of them, is great with youth players and tries hard to bring them through, and on top of that plays exciting attacking football (which prominent members of our squad like Hazard are desperate to start playing).

It could all be a massive failure, or maybe the squad can’t adapt, or maybe a lot of other negative possibilities, but right now many of us just think it sounds like a really positive and promising direction to try. Of course the board will doubtless turn around and disappoint us by hiring Enrique instead, but I’m going to have happy thoughts about Sarri for as long as possible. :)
What you're saying regarding AVB is true, but his playing style is also a big reason why the team failed. His high line was the major problem, as the defenders couldn't pull it off, and with Sturridge and Mata on the wings istead of Malouda and Anelka, it was bound to be a disaster defensively.

I don't know much about Sarri either. All I know is that he would be a gamble for any big team, as he isn't proven. The fact that he wants to play exciting football is all good, but I doubt he wil be able to achieve his brand of football without bringing in players to suit that system.

Good point about the style not matching the team back then. Our defence is pretty young and fast, we have very strong AM options and Kante of course in the middle. I can see Sarri bringing in a few people to strengthen in certain areas, but we have a very strong squad which people seem to have forgotten recently because the season was such a disappointment.

I'm not saying he could just walk in and instantly create the style he wants, but he'd have most of the peices I think.

I swear a lot of people are saying we can't play Sarri ball is based on AVB's experience with a totally different squad.

Infact we have a lot of players in this squad that AVB could have seriously done with.

I think you need a deeper squad regardless of who the manager is. Of course it's possible it could work if everything falls in place but there are too many possible potential issues here imo. He isn't gonna get everything prepared for him when he arrives like Pep did and he won't get the kind of funding he did either. It depends on what you expect to achieve. I don't doubt Sarri can get you playing nicer football but even in the best case scenario, I can't see you getting to any higher level than Liverpool is now, and I wonder if Roman will be satisfied with beautiful football if you're not winning anytime soon.

Liverpool have had a decent season on the back of a stellar year for Salah and a fairly easy route in the CL. That doesn’t change the fact we’ve had a better team than them for many years and still do. We’ve won the title twice in the last four years it’s worth remembering.

Zenit has just appointed someone else so it looks like you might get him after all. I don't know, I still maintain that it will be difficult for him to succeed at Chelsea. If I was a Chelsea fan, I'd want someone more proven, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Outdated manager, sacked everywhere, but he will do well cause Napoli are well organized

Absolutely not the case. The Napoli team were considered pretty junk before Sarri took over. Him with our team would be incredibly exciting.
Simeone or Allegri would be exciting, not Sarri. This is not how Chelsea play football

Liverpool spent the best part of two decades churning out defensive manager after defensive manager until Rodgers came in and changed things. United wer an attacking team until Moyes changed things. Furthermore Simeone's more suited to United's team these days.

I've seen us go from Ian Porterfield to Glenn Hoddle to Ruud's sexy football to Jose to Conte. Chelsea play football however we play football. If Sarri changes it to whatever then that's how Chelsea play football.

This idea that certain clubs play a certain way is pretty silly. Arsene changed Arsenal, Cruyff changed Barca, Moyes changed United.

What's the deal here. Chelsea are speaking to Blanc because they don't want to pay Sarri's fee, but Napoli have already replaced him.

Is his star fading now and is he joining Mourinho in the past it managers category?

I think he set up Napoli very poorly yesterday considering the balance of the tie. I can't see him making that mistake a few years ago. That to go with his underwhelming end at Bayern. Or am I just jumping the gun with this one?

Don’t think he’s ever been a particularly great league manager but seems a bit harsh to criticise Napoli for going out of a group with PSG and Liverpool on goal difference or whatever it was. They should be giving the Europa a good go though, 2nd is basically already theirs in Italy so not excuse not to.

Extremely harsh on Napoli to go out of that group after loosing only one game (the last one) but then on the other hand they're barely mustered a threat last night

It shows the strength of the group, I feel Napoli in most of the other groups would have gone through. There are somewhat other tough groups but I feel this was probably the toughest to get out of.

Napoli arn't really a bad team... they can play some nice football. They can win the cl under the right direction. They could easily do a Porto

If you took the money out of football then yes they would be hard to beat. Who's gunna beat them? Everton? They would cruise past those teams.

Alot of teams have potential... it's about bringing in the right manager

Porto were in a group with Madrid, OM and some nothing side. They finished second in that group, then drew a relatively weak United in the R16, whom they beat in large part thanks to a bad ref and a bad goalkeeper, then OL, Deportivo and Monaco. I could see Napoli winning the CL if they got drawn in Madrid's group instead of Roma, then got drawn against, let's say Bayern, had luck going their way in that tie, then faced off against Porto, Valencia and Spurs

It's official. Sacked.

The Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli has decided to revoke the role of technical manager of the first team from Mr. Carlo Ancelotti. The relations of friendship, esteem and mutual respect between the company, its president Aurelio De Laurentiis and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact

Waited until he guided them into the last 16 before sacking him.

Ultimately Napoli is more extreme version of Spurs to me. Ultimately the group of players they have achieved lots without actually winning a trophy and they're now at the end of their cycle and need to rebuild. Carlo isn't the man for that, didn't think he was the right choice to follow Sarri anyway.

Not helped by the President seeming to lose his mind for most of this season either.

Guess Ancelotti will be serious contender for Arsenal now.

De Laurentiis to monetise haevily in January with Gattuso (?) going for the rebuild with a younger core. Smart end to a very entertaining cycle. Question under the carpet: is DeLa thinking to sell Napoli and... to whom? ... (saudis)
