It'll be a challenge for sure. But I think this Atletico team has completed their cycle and are in a rebuild phase. So they don't offer the threat that they otherwise would. On the night anything can happen, but like I said, this isn't their best phase. They aren't the machine they were 2/3 years back.
Like I said, I never watch Spanish football, so I’ll take your word for it. Atletico in their pomp was a monster. An ugly monster, but still a monster and exactly the kind of team that would beat us.

Atletico are interesting this season.

Have only conceded 10 goals all season, but have only scored 18 and sit at 5th.

Don't know what to expect to be honest.

Brugge will be interesting. I’ve watched them a handful of times again Madrid and they looked decent a few times, might be a tricky tie.

No he won't be. Rules changed last year and he's fine for the knockout rounds

Minamino signing could give Liverpool CL boost vs Atletico Madrid https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...ws-17405924#ICID=Android_EchoNewsApp_AppShare
That’s great news! So many recent rule changes, I missed that one. He will definitely give us something different. I’d also like to see us sign a CB in Jan if possible. Lovren has never played more than 10 consecutive games for us in 5 years and Joe and Matip are also injury prone.

The new Shaquri?
Much higher ceiling than Shaqiri I think from the limited amount I've seen of him. People that watch the Bundesliga regularly tell me that he's a brilliant player though and is the one that makes Salzburg tick. Hopefully another gem that we've found for a similar price to Andy Robertson

I agree with that. Having lost Matip and now Lovren for a while as well as Fabinho being out, we're looking well short defensively. I don't think Van Den Berg is ready yet so it wouldn't surprise me to see us buy another CB.
On the plus side, Gomez looks back at home in that role. He never looks quite right at full back but that may just be because we have two of the best full backs in world football

Was shocked to see City finally get a "tricky" draw I was waiting to see them get Atalanta or Liverpool get Atalanta though we all know who will get Atalanta in the next round!

Though Real nowadays are nowhere near the peak they used to be at have they improved since Zidane went back or are they a bit like us?

If I was having a bet it would be on all the English teams in the CL to advance. Seriously hoping we dont get a Liverpool vs City final that would follow Liverpool winning the league

Liverpool fan I know said we got an easy draw in the Europa I dont think we have, how do Bruge play are they quite defensive and hard to break down or fairly open? We are so difficult to predict lately it's the small compact sides we seem to struggle with hopefully we dont view Bruge with complacency

I think City will have it easier than Tottenham.

Bruges were a great team in the 70s but we just back passed them into submission.

So they happen to watch a team that is not even in their league.

Out of all the sides they could face, Real is probably the one team that they don’t match up well with tactically. They are favourites but not by much. Liverpool did well to avoid them at this stage.

Erm Salzburg don't play in the Bundesliga though... Or did you mean people who watch German football AND also watch Austrian league football too? I suspect thats what you meant.

The Austrian league is called Bundesliga.
Yes I am aware of that, but it's not known as Bundesliga anywhere other than Austria. It's like the Premier League and the Scottish Premier League before the latter's rebrand

For someone who has only played in the Austrian league and come into the Premier league in January , to fight for a place with Salah, Frimino and Mane..........must be some player.
Well done for finding this gem.

No, I meant the Austrian Bundesliga. I was talking about an Austrian team so I assumed that went without saying. I have friends that live in Austria and they refer to it as just the Bundesliga which is why I didn't specify

Atalanta-Valencia (this is 51-49 for me)
Atletico-Liverpool (shithousery won't be enough)
Chelsea-Bayern (easy for Bayern)
Lyon-Juventus (think Lyonnais might do it)
Tottenham-Leipzig
Napoli-Barca

There are few obvious games. Barca, bayern, Psg and juventus should all be massive favorites, but I can see them struggle. Liverpool look hard to stop right now, but atletico can still defend well and put them under pressure. Real vs city is very open. I think Real will win it if they stop de bruyne. Laporte back could be a big boost for City.

Seems mental to me that most people think City is the favourite against Real Madrid. A team that has NEVER eliminated a big club against the team that has won it more times in history.

I've not watched much of Atletico in recent years but I'm more confident with this Atletico side rather than the 2014/2016 ones that made the finals. From what I know about them this season is they rarely score more than 2 goals, only twice all season at home to Eibar and Espanyol which they both conceded in and were losing to begin with. I've noticed most of their goals have come in the second half and when they have been struggling to find a goal late on they've relied on set piece delivery from Trippier to Morata. Their midfield worries me, lots of guile and talent in there I just hope we have the best midfield over two ties at our disposal and Fabinho plays in both.

If we come away avoiding defeat like a 1-1 draw we should be ok at home, if we lose no more 1-0, 2-0.. then we'll just have to go for it again like Barcelona and Atletico have collapsed from this position away at Juventus last season. It's a case of who between Klopp & Simeone is the more pragmatic manager in this tie who I think will win.

That’s it, Simeone reverting to his inner self and kicking your players again and again until they bleed in footballing terms, out of physical extenuation. As for gameplay and form, ties are so far away that it really makes no sense to appease favourites and underdogs.

I'm pretty baffled about the general perception of Real here. What have they accomplished so far to justify all the praise?
Right now they are a badly balanced assembly of young talents and washed up Superstars with too much success under their bellies to give a feck.
I think City is going to walk this.
Real Madrid only won 3 of the last 4 CL tournaments, whereas City have only beaten one big team in PSG since they won the lottery.

On the basis of experience, pedigree, know-how etc, Real Madrid have to be favorites. And City's form recently is nothing to write home about

Real have a lot of flaws though. Nowhere near as solid defensively as they have been in years past, and quited reliant on Benzema. I can see them being very reactive in this tie, but I'm not sure they're sharp or quick enough in attack to do what we did against City.

Reckon the rest of your predictions are pretty spot on, though Leipzig could be a tougher the for Spurs than most think.
