They will let him go i reckon. No point keeping an unhappy 35 year old player at the club who is out of contract in the summer.

No good getting rid of Young as he won’t be replaced. We’ll be told only the right player who understands the club culture and is the right fit for the rebuild will come in. And as we know 99.9% of footballers don’t fit this criteria it is better to keep Young.

All the power to him, it is a great transfer for him and certainly an upgrade. Pretty damning that the club captain doesn't want to stick around but maybe we need more senior players to do this If the board are going to wake up and smell the coffee.

I dont know what's worse - inter offering him a deal or we offering young an extension or he rejecting that extension.

Does he need replacing? We have AWB & Dalot for rightback, Shaw and Williams for leftback. I'm a big fan of Young, but think making this his last season with us is absolutely the right decision. And good for him for landing a contract with Inter.

Dont know whether to laugh or cry at how badly this has been handled.

Either way if he stays until seasons end can see him getting a pretty negative reaction from the fans considering he rejected an extension. (More negative than normal)

It’s a good move for him really. I hope he stays until the summer though.

Don`t worry, Borthwick-Jackson has been recalled from loan. Like a new signing.

Laird also who is pushing very close.

Honestly it's not really an issue, if we were top of the league and flying nobody would blink an eye. It's just the fact things aren't going well it feels like people are jumping ship.

Letting him go is the right decision.

Offering him a one-year contract just to 'fend-off' interest is derisory to not just to him, but our club.

What a piss-take. Can anyone at the top make some solid strong decisions anymore?

This situation is a good example of what needs to be done imo. If we let young go and give Laird a chance thats great. My point is if we trim the squad of older players to play the youngsters that's at least some consolation. But if we play Jones or Williams in RB (with Rojo at LB) then no good.

Dalot is rubbish and Shaw injury prone.

Dalot is 20 and hasn't even made 20 appearances for us yet. It's a bit early days to be writing him off. With Laird and Williams we have two very highly rated young fullbacks as backup to two first-choice fullbacks who are better than Young anyway. It's a great situation. Ashley Young is approaching 35. If we're dependent on him going into next season then clearly we have far bigger issues to worry about.

The 34-year-old club captain turning down a contract extension and saying he never wants to play for the club again just about sums the club up.

Wan Bissaka with Dalot as back up.
Laird is a fantastic prospect.
We’ll manage .

He's an average winger and a worse fullback. The fact the club has been content with that standard is why we're in the situation we are.

Ashley has been with us since Sir Alex was our manager. Probably seen it all.

Ole and the club can say whatever they want but when one of our senior players, on top of that one of our club captains don’t want to stay until the season ends then you know how bad it is.

In the summer he will be followed by Matic and probably Mata. None of them are more then squad material, probably not even that, but never less the squad will be totally stripped of experience and wisdom in a few months.

Whatever Ole is doing from the outside it looks like chaos and that we have nobody at the wheel.

And this needs to be done, those players are simply not good enough any longer. We will continue to suffer short term, but I do not have any doubt that this will help us long term.

Players like Young, Mata, Matic, Jones and Lingard has to leave, one way or another. They are not good enough and its just a fact. Sure some of our current younger players are not probably good enough to get us to the top of the pyramid, but being optimistic as me, I suspect that they are here to be the squad options for the future ase we are going to aquire a few top players in their prime.

The players leaving will also free up wages for other players.

Or he quickly came to the understanding that receiving an offer to play in Milan is a golden opportunity he plans to seize.

It was a no-brainer for him given his circumstances - a 33 yo backup player with no future at his current club. Anyone would have done the same thing.

I remember when Borthwick-Jackson played a handful of games for the first team and suddenly people here decided our LB spot was sorted for a decade.

Chances are, more likely than not, that Williams, Dalot, and Laird won't be good enough. Even if they are, they're not ready yet. We absolutely need a replacement for Young.

There is so much we are going to need. Can't really spend on fullbacks since we need minimum 3 attackers/midfielders. Mata and Young will go so ideally we would need to replace them too, but we can't afford that.

The amount of revisionism I m seeing on Ashley Young is incredible. :)
From the same people that use to slate him week in week out. :)
Knee jerking (with a hint of hypocrisy) at its best.
If I was Young, the biggest reason for leaving would be the abuse he continually got from a section of so called "fans".

You won't see any from me. Should have played his last game for the club at least two years ago.

Happy to see him go asap. No longer able to cut it in the Prem.
