Can't see Sancho going for less than 120m and Leicester won't let Ndidi go cheap, he will be 60+ alone.
Maybe a bit optimistic there then, you're probably right.

For what it's worth I'd rather compromise on Sancho than Ndidi, as a DM behind that midfield is going to have be top class.

I don't know that many suitable replacements but somebody like Chukwueze or Bernadeshi maybe? Work your magic scouts.

Can't be a priority now that we have Bruno as he'll be our starting AM for the foreseeable future. Grealish playing as a CM wouldn't make sense as there are much better CM options we can go for. Playing Bruno and Grealish at the same time would leave us vulnerable.
Disagree with this.

One of the major issues in our whole squad is having competition for places and squad depth.

What if Fernandes is injured or fatigued? We go back to periera/lingard/mata and cry that they aint good enough as usual i'd expect.

We absolutely cannot disregard signings based on the logic that we have ONE quality player in that position.

Grealish can play wide left/through the middle, Fernandes can play as a CM and as a AM. We have to start to realise that we need more quality throughout - and that means upgrading every area of the squad. Fernandes cannot play every single game of the season as an AM, and i for one am sick of seeing Lingard so i'd happily sign Grealish alongside Fernandes and have them rotate or be used together.

Only part of your post i agree with is signing a CM, i'd sign both. Pogba and Lingard are likely to leave and Matic will decline again. I'd sign Grealish and a CM or we will be light on numbers........again

Would love for us to sign Grealish. I don't think we have a prayer of getting him, especially if we don't get CL football. He will end up at City/Liverpool/Spurs in my opinion.

Wasn’t Pochettino and Spurs interested in Grealish a year or so ago? If there is legitimate interest from Utd in him then it adds to the Poch to Utd theory, along with Bruno Fernandes coming here (another player Poch was interested in).

There is no doubt we will have some competition for him in the summer, also have to make a move before the euros or a good tournament will see his price rise significantly.

You surestimate our board, with the window closing again on September, Woodward will wait all the summer to make an actual bid.
But if we somehow pull out 3 signings like the last summer, on the right positions, it could be decent.

A DM, (a n°10 if Pogba leaves), a RW and a ST.

I really like that he, like Dan Smith said, is a great player anywhere they play him. He was great as an 8 in a 433 last season, and started the season very well there this year. Now he has also been very good as left winger in a 433 and even as on of two forwards in a 352. I also seen to remember that Dan Smith mentioned that he is good in a double pivot in a 4231.

There have been quite a few discussion about how to get the best from Pogba. It would be nice to have a player who performs great where ever you put him on the pitch.

Like now for instance, he could have played on the left with Rashford injured.

I can see both Man City and Chelsea going for him.

We should be all over him.

Grealish, Bruno and McTominay midfield 3 assuming Pogba leaves.

UK, hun?
That midfield would be so easily bypassed, a strong DM is a must for the summer window.
Grealish and Bruno with a DM behind them provide be great against teams we should be steamrolling. Add in a RW (dream world Sancho) and a striker (Edouard?) and we’re good to go.

People say we should get him and a DM and play 4-3-3 with Grealish Bruno - two AMs and a DM. I don't see how this could work unless we have a tactically solid coach. Not a dig at Ole but he's been pretty rigid with his 4-2-3-1. Grealish versatility may waste under him. We could play a 4-3-3 like City with Grealish Bruno and a DM, we could play a 4-2-2-2 like Psg with Grealish and Bruno as left and right AMs with two DMs. We could play a 4-2-3-1 with Grealish as AM and Bruno as RM like Eriksen and Dele all under Pochettino. We could play 4-4-2 diamond but Williams and Dalot has to be the full backs with their ability. I just don't see Ole being tacticay flexible when it comes to using Grealish and Bruno

Here's what will happen:

We will make an enquiry at the beginning of the Summer but will "balk" at the 85m asking price. We will try and offer something like 60m but Villa will hold firm and Grealish himself will deny he wants to leave (as Villa will have stayed up).

He'll be selected for the England squad and make a couple of cameo appearances at the Euros.

Then we will end up buying him for 97m + Jesse Lingard in late August.

Sounds like a thing Woody would do.

To me Grealish is a bit like Mane, not in the way he plays, but in that it seems obvious that once he moves to a team with more quality around him he will step on another level. If it is not us this thread will eventually be be full of complaints while we watch him thrive at Liverpool, Spurs, City or Chelsea.

Andrei Kanchelskis made me fall in love with Unite
A midfield 3 of Fred/MCT, Grealish and Bruno sounds feckin exciting. Add a striker in the summer and we're in business. I made a point last week that we're not that far away from having a great team and I think we're starting to see the evolution of the team now. Yes, as people have said, we are arguably in a worse position now than when Ole took over but he's working towards something and it involved getting rid of some players that may have had quality but lacked attitude.

Say we sign Grealish and Jimenez for talks sake, and assuming Pogba goes, we could have an 11 of DDG, AWB, Maguire, Lindelof, Williams, Bruno, Fred, Grealish, Rashford, Jimenez and Greenwood. That's an exciting and balanced team that could really do something.

Far too attacking. McTominay isn't even really a DM, he's box-to-box. You've essentially got a CM and two AMs there.
People are a bit obsessed with Defensive Midfielders these days though. Some even want us to play two, and yet be more attacking.

Football isn’t just the latest formation in a magazine, it’s still about a team set-up. Folk see a lineup and say that would get sliced through. Anyone noticed even Burnley’s shite two man midfield doesn’t get massively ‘sliced through’? Same with folk saying ooh a two man midfield, it will get overrun by a three man midfield like it’s the Alamo.

McTominay and Bruno won’t feck about.

Also, it's time to start worrying more about the kind of football the team wants to play when attacking. As long as the players have an engine on them and nous, defensively the team will be fine, don't remember Carrick sliding around being a hard man, or Scholes being able to tackle. Didn't matter.

People play Football Manager and watch Tifo and they think they know tactics for real.

Burnley play with two defensive mids and a “RM” who is just another hard working CM. That doesn’t support the argument of not needing a defensive mid.

As much as I'd like to believe so, it's Goal, maybe i'm mistaken but cannot remember them ever getting anything right in terms of transfer rumours
Yeah and the journo who wrote it hasn't really written anything breaking before.

Both McTominay or Fred won't give us the balance needed defensively.

We need to find a prime Fernandinho to fit him and bruno in CM so I'm not convinced this will work.

Buy Kante or the next best water carrier out there.

Thomas Partey would be such an obvious choice (if he was interested). Currently on a relatively low salary at AM and has a release clause of €50 mill. And he is more than just a water carrier, he can play too. Great passer and good at keeping hold of the ball.

27 years old this summer, but has not played that much football and probably have the five best years ahead of him. A no-brainer.

(Only minus is the AFCON, but hopefully we could keep hold of Matic as a backup and then Garner.)

This is what the media are going to run with now. Maddison will sign a good deal with Leicester as he will have Chmps League so they know Grealish will get more traction whether there is any truth in it or not.

AFCON is during the Summer. Not really a minus, other internationals are in the Euros in Summer.

You’ve just described one type of defensive midfielder. I don’t think many people are asking for that. You wouldn’t say that Carrick or Busquets, for example, are defensive midfielders? Someone who can shield the defence, intercept the ball and pass it through the lines is more what we’d need. It’s still a defensive midfielder though.
