Joint MOTM: Fred and Maguire. Honourable mention to Bailly on his first start for ages.

It's hard to witness a side being 2-0 up and still not controlling the game and predictable how we drop points from winning positions. Hoid to put Chavs to sword after them snatching countless undeserved wins over last 15 years.

And we scored from a corner...its a beautiful thing!

We had the majority of control in that game, considering we were at their ground, I thought we were clinical and they weren’t. Another clean sheet, and rightfully so. You can‘t push players or stand offside when you score.

Bruno looks lethal, Fred was brilliant, Maguire was brilliant.

Shit game great result. Lucky with Maguire. Thought Ighalo might have been in. Why bring him on with 5 mins to go though could have brought him on around 70 see what he could do for the ineffectual James or slightly better Martial.
Correct. Take James off and move Martial to the left. Bruno in 10 and Ighalo upfront. Such a weird decision.

Somewhat lucky, at least in the first half. Glad to have the win though.

Where's my arc, Paulie?
I wonder how effective we can be going forward with Ighalo supporting Martial. He seems like someone with a good physical presence which allows more space and freedom for everyone around him.

Fernandes has already mastered the bland post-match interview in near-English. (That goes for the English players as well!)

Fred is an absolute machine. Cant want to get McT back in midfield with him but he has really stepped up, fair play to him. Bailly looked very shaky at start but great performance. Got some luck but overall much needed win against direct rival..

Agree with Bailly getting some slack cut for him due to being out that long, but he did shit his pants with Giroud and if not for VAR he would have cost us a critical goal. Awarding him MOTM is too much.

I think Fred played another fantastic game. Him and Bruno in the midfield is pretty awesome sight. We still need Pogba, but now more as a squad player, in case Fred or Bruno gets injured :D
Yeah, well, I have this irrational thing about Giroud that whenever he comes on as a substitute I'm basically resigned to him scoring with a header. It feels just about inevitable, even if we had prime Ferdinand and Vidic so I tend not to blame the CBs.

France - can't win anything with Swedish turnips
4 consecutive clean sheets
3 wins this season against Chelsea
2 headed goals
1 assist for Bruno
No sign of Lingard - at last.

Highly enjoyable game - thoroughly deserved the win.
Fred brilliant all action. Maguire very good.
Bruno can take corners and unlucky with the free kick against the post.

Bailly had some brilliant and scary moments - bit of match practice and should improve.
Martial great headed goal -more of those please.
James a bit quiet.

Fred pretty awesome tonight. How many balls did he nick? That's a different Luke Shaw than I've seen in the last 2 years. Finally some zip in his movement. Bailly, first few minutes aside, really powerful. Immediately looks a better partner for Harry. Am I right in thinking Williams, Obi-Wan and Fred all picked up 5th yellows? Anyway, excellent win and the begrudgers can feck off.

Big 3 points for the team in what was a must win game. Looking at the two teams was strange because when I look at Chelsea, I think almost man for man they have a better side than us, and still managed to put out a strong 11 despite having several of their best players out, and still they keep missing out to us. Not that I’m complaining!!!

Martial was pretty poor in the first half but fair play to him for getting the goal. Fred was awesome in the middle as was Bruno and Matic, Maguire and AWB were great at the back and excellent header from from the captain for the 2nd.

We got the rub of the green with VAR tonight. I wouldn’t complain if Maguire got a red, the only thing I can think of is that he raised his feet to protect himself from the Chelsea boy from falling on him as opposed to Sons rather cynical kick out, but I might have still given the red if I was running the VAR. Zouma was a little unlucky as Fred does give a little nudge to Cesar but I think it wasn’t predominant, especially compared to Cesars clear cut shove. Can’t be any complaints about the offside though.

Get in! Great result! Very entertaining game. It feels like we got a bit lucky with the VAR stuff but the majority of the decisions were correct. Though I do admit Maguire was lucky to be on the pitch.

I'm glad he was though as finally we've scored directly from a corner! Great delivery and great header. Nice to see Fernandes have an impact already, albeit from a set play. He did however have some nice passes in the first half. And a good free kick too. Good performance from him.

Said a lot about the first goal at half. But great stuff from Wan Bissaka to create it and nice header from Martial too. Fred and Willams deserve a shoutout for being impressive too. Ighalo nearly scored with one of his first touches! Wouldn't that have been a great story!

Huge 3 points though!

First VAR game at the bridge against us and Chelsea have two goals disallowed. Can see why it was only 1 win in the league in 15 years or so.

have to say, been a long time since everything went out way (rightly so I think too) but you don’t normally get that at the bridge.

A first league double over Chelsea since 1988.

A good a much needed win for United in venue that's a real bogey ground for United in the PL. Got a bit of luck on that first Chelsea goal getting disallowed but Williams was pushed to the ground. 2nd goal chalked off was offside.

Great timing for Maguires first league goal. Bruno Fernandes with his first assist and unlucky he didn't score when his free kick came off the post. Ighalo close to a debut goal also.

As for Chelsea they are only 4th because of Uniteds lack of consistency and lucky for them United are unlikely to hit a consistent run of form for the remaining 12 games.

Ole has not done many things consistently since becoming permanent but beating and pissing off Chelsea has been one of them :).

I'm always baffled by posters that think they know better than trained, professional refs.

A Panel of referees looked at the same (or better) images as us. But no, the caf knows better.... How the hell should Zouma's goal have stood?
Their argument is that Azpilicueta was pushed by Fred and therefore, it's only "natural" he pushes Williams. I can see why, but for me, it's still a foul and no goal. Stop that BS of pushing players to open up the space, especially from behind. Head to head? No problem.

That's exactly what I said all night to the people I was watching with, he fell back to the point where his head was up against the dugout and he thought the guy was about to fall ontop of him so he put his leg up to stop that.

He didn't mean to kick him in the clackers, but the fact the contact was made means it still could have easily been a red.

What an enjoyable game, high pace, lots of energy and players going for it. VAR is VAR... This game we benefited but hopefully it is removed or atleast seriously revamped for next season.

Now unto the positives. Fred amazing of course, but a big shout out to Shaw who does amazingly well in the center left back position. He made one crucial mistake getting out of position, but other than that flawless in defense and bombing forward every chance he got, while being composed with the ball midfield. Happy to see Bailly defend well, and Bruno showing that he's the real deal. All else put in a decent shift and should be proud with themselves tonight.

The fan-favorite manager who is clearly out of his depth is Frank Lampard. Has Frank been getting the grief that Ole has been getting?

Anyway enjoyed this match, there was a simmering physical danger. I like seeing the players get close to the line where emotions spill over.

Impressed with Bruno, Williams, Bailly, and Fred. Bruno was the best player on the pitch for both sides. I am excited to see how Bruno's influence shapes this team. In the first half he got into really good spaces a dozen times, made great runs that dragged their backs out of position - and we couldn't find him with the ball. His passing and reading of the game are excellent. There was a pass in the first half where he was near the center circle and split two Chelsea players with a raking through ball to (I think) Martial. The vision and technique were Scholesian.

I didn't think Maguire's incident should have been a red card. It's different from the Son incident, in that Son was not in danger of having Rudiger fall on him, he was on flat ground, and he raised his foot about, what, a foot? Maguire was on the steep edge next to the pitch and Zouma or whoever it was looked like he was about to fall on him. He also moved his foot a few inches. To me that's enough of a difference and it was the correct decision.

On Willian's dive in the first half, look at his left leg. The right leg does get contact with Bruno's leg, but Willian throws his left leg out to go to ground, and that's what the referee likely saw. Correct to book him.

I would have liked the subs earlier, with Ighalo given a little more time, and I would have played Mata. When Ighalo got the ball he showed great close control and composure, just a shame he couldn't have scored with his first shot. I think he will be a useful forward. Was Greenwood injured?

I don't know why we can't have Mata and Bruno together, two incredibly intelligent players.

Martial's header was great, and AWB's cross was superb.

But if we accept that Fred pushed Azpilicueta then surely that foul cannot go unpunished?
