The Madrid one with Nani pissed me off more than anything for some reason. Didn’t watch any football for months after it

Seeing this thread genuinely wound me up more than I expected so here's mine
I know this one didn't matter to many people but the 2-1 loss to bottom of the table Wolves in 2011 that ended our long unbeaten run had me punching my pillows as a young boy
Drogba's offside goal against us in 2010 is another
The 1-0 loss to Wigan that ultimately started our bad run to lose the title in 2012 followed by that gobsmacking 4-4 draw to Everton had my blood boiling
Like everyone the 2-1 loss to Madrid and Nani's red card is one to forget
I was kinda young but I remember the loss to Fulham in the 08/09 season when Rooney got sent off had me fuming in school that week

A few still linger in my mind:

Man Utd 0-1 Fenerbahce in 1996. A flukey deflection from Elvir Bolic and our 40 year unbeaten home record in Europe ends. We then lost to Juventus at home the next week.

1995 FA Cup Final v Everton. I was a newish supporter and I was so sure we were going to win. The first time I’ve felt let down by my team. Definitely not the last time though.

2011 European Cup Final. We had a great team and we were made to look amateurish by Barcelona. Their dominance in that game really got to me. The worst bit was seeing SAF wringing his hands on the bench, totally unable to change how the match was going.
One of the first games I truly remember watching and being sad about (95 FA Cup final loss to Everton too). But to this day had NO idea it was a deflection.

Easily the1979 FA Cup final against Arsenal. All that effort to equalise with 2 mins to go only to throw it away in the last minute. From euphoria to devastation in seconds. Took me years to get over it.........:(

The context of it being Fergies last game in Europe makes the Madrid/Nani redcard the top of my list. We would have won it otherwise, I'm certain of it.

Special mention to Rafaels red against Bayern and the Pompey fa cup semi.

The Bayern game in the CL when Robben scored in the dying minutes to eliminate us. Still hate the cnut for that and his celebration.

Porto with that late goal in Old Trafford. Think we would have added another Champions League to our trophy room had we went through.

Wimbledon in the 97 (I think) FA Cup when Schmeichel scored a scissor kick in the last minute but it was (rightly) ruled out for offside. I was going crazy, only to be so deflated.

The others mentioned are more obvious and probably more annoying, but that one sticks out.

I don't like to think about the past really....

Porto knocking us out
AC Milan knocking us out when Kaka was amazing, it just really hurt, felt like we'd never win the CL again that night, obviously thankfully we have
Everton 4-4
Bayern knocking us out, daft ref
Real knocking us out, daft ref
RVN missing that penalty against Arsenal, with their daft celebrations
Overmars goal and Arsenal winning that game, and that famous shot of that Gooner celebrating at full-time, still angers me
cup final in 2005 against Arsenal, total robbery
2009 CL final, after the high of 2008, it was such a limp and sad performance
2009 fa cup semi final was pathetic, that Berbatov penalty was a disgrace

The defeat 2-1 against Blackburn with two goals from Morten Gamst Pedersen. That defeat is burnt in my mind for a reason that I couldn't explain.

Arsenal
6-1 City at home. Lost the league on GD, could have had another title.
To be fair that GD had been inflated by United's 8-2 win over Arsenal before the 6-1 loss to City. That league was lost later, as others have pointed out. I think those two freak results cancelled each other out.

Aguero's goal in 96th minute to take title in 2011/2012 season on goal difference. We were champions for 3 minutes.

I still think about Portsmouth in the FA Cup. The year Portsmouth went on to win it.

We had so many missed sitters, so many bad ref decisions against us, Portsmouth were shit and then won with a jammy penalty. We should have won about 5-0.

We won the PL and CL that year. And I’m absolutely convinced we would have won the treble again had we won that match.
Dont forget that we were denied a stonewall peno when ronaldo was cleaned out of it.

The everton 4-4 game in 2012 still annoys me.

No shortage of contenders unfortunately, our showings in both 09 and 11 CL finals also still annoy me, rubbish tactics in both.

FA cup final when we battered Arsenal for 120 minutes then lost on penalties. Rooney and Ronaldo were immense that day.

The Nani red is being massively Exaggerated.

Euro ref's have never liked high feet, the reckless (intentional or not) thing had just floated into view as a thing.

Sure, it was a bit harsh and disappointing and so on. But there was a lot of football left in the match even and people are saying it stopped us winning the whole competition. Not quite the robbery you're all on about anyway.

1976 Cup final was worse, it scarred my childhood and he was at least 5 yards offside too

2011 was not a great team compared to 2009 and their dominance was completely expected.

1. FA Cup Final 2005 v Arsenal - By far and away the most annoying loss, absolute bastard of a match. Thoroughly outplayed those cnuts but just couldn't find the net. Rooney hitting the post, RVN header being cleared off the line, Ronaldo destroying Lauren time and time again in that match but still couldn't score. After all that it went to penalties, and it just had to be that prick Vieira to score the winning penalty. Urgh, that still makes me sick.

We've lost more important matches but that loss always stung me the most, probably because of my age and how much that rivalry meant to me.

2. 2nd leg CL QF 09/10 v Bayern - That whole week was a nightmare, Rooney fecked his ankle in dying seconds in the 1st leg and I just remember being so anxious as to what would happen to us without him in both PL/CL. Not only did he start but we absolutely destroyed Bayern and were cruising 3-0 before Carrick absolutely shit himself and allowed Olic to pull one back. That match soured me on Carrick big time, he cemented himself as a giant pussy in my eyes. Rafael red card never annoyed me because he was a thick footballer, was always a ticking time bomb v European referees.

The entire KO groups were drawn early back then and winner of Utd/Bayern had to play Lyon in the SF. A CL Final was just there for the taking and we blew it big time. Probably the most pissed I've been after any loss in last 10 years.

3. FA Cup QF 07/08 v Portsmouth - Another sickening loss which cost us a treble. feck Howard Webb for not giving that penalty on Ronaldo when Distin took him out. Once again Carrick shit himself and messed up an easy chance to score into an open net.

4. 4-4 v Everton 11/12 - Probably the only worthwhile achievement of David Moyes at OT, the bastard. We thought the game was won when Rooney put us 4-2 up and gave against cheapest of two goals to throw away 3 points. Knew we had choked the league after that match.

Seeing a lot many go with Real Madrid 2nd leg in 12/13, for some reason that doesn't annoy me as much. My immediate reaction to Nani foul was red, and it wasn't a surprise that a European referee gave that. How we played after that was utterly disgraceful though, completely shat ourselves despite holding a one goal advantage.
Agree with all those. I was at the Portsmouth match and I'm pretty sure that the referee was Martin Atkinson, not Howard Webb.

2005 FA Cup final

Lost on penalties to Arsenal when a 4-0 win to United would have still hugely flattered them. Hated them at the time too.

Also the Drogba offside game. I think that's the single worst officiating decision I've ever seen, and it literally decided the league. Thought we were easily better than Chelsea that year as well. Both games we lost to them we were the better side. Both times we lost due to an officiating error. They would have lost the league anyway but for Gerrard deliberately letting them beat Liverpool. Basically the whole thing was bent as feck and in plain sight yet barely a fuss was made of it.

Even the Aguero thing was nowhere near as annoying as at least you had to concede City were the better side overall, or at least managed to beat us twice without it being entirely down to the officials.

Also when I got up at 5am to travel up to see us play Blackburn on NYE, then got into the stadium and to my seat by the tunnel just as the players were coming out, only for no midfielders to emerge in the United team. Then after we're 2-0 down SAF decides it might be a good idea to have Carrick and Anderson in midfield instead of Rafael and...well, no one.

Sure, we were the better side at Stamford Bridge and were massively fecked by the officials. They outplayed us at Old Trafford though: we looked seriously toothless without Rooney, they created more and better chances - and the Drogba goal is massively overblown. Yes, it was miles offside but they were already 1-0 up and then our consolation goal was a handball anyway. They deserved that win overall.

feck Gerrard though. His slip was the sweetest karma imaginable.

The second time meeting Barcelona on CL final. We were such a good team at the time, and we were running and pressing around but we were always inches away from tackling the balls. Always. So frustating to watch when Barca are passing the balls like that. And we had 2 years to prepare.

We were a relatively mediocre team, compared to the one that reached the final in 2009. We won the title with only 81 points, we clearly had a gaping hole in midfield - I mean, Giggs partnered Carrick at Wembley... -, Ferdinand and Vidic were getting on a bit, and obviously we no longer had Ronaldo. We were massive underdogs in that game. The annoying thing about that is our transfer activity in those years.

Rome hurts more. Had it not been for Fletcher's stupid red card at the Emirates, we might have been able to copy what Chelsea did against them, especially with Dani Alves and Abidal both out and Yaya Touré having to play CB. Instead we had a weird midfield (Carrick, Anderson, Giggs) that let Iniesta waltz through half the pitch unchallenged and then of course Eto'o finished it.

The 3-3 draw with liverpool after going 3 nil up.
That one is right up there for me as well , remember listening to the match live on radio and been disgusted at full time.

The draw with West Ham on the last day of the season that cost us the title is also up there.

Real Madrid at Old Trafford, 2000. We did so well in the first leg, holding them to a goalless draw. Then Keane scored an own goal in the return leg and Redondo turned into prime Messi for fifteen minutes. Becks and Scholes staged a late comeback but it was never going to be enough.

Still annoys me to this day as I feel we'd have gone on to go all the way and retain the European Cup.
Same. It's actually the first match that comes to my mind because I was gutten afterwards. We were playing such great attacking football after that mid-season World Club Cup break in Brazil, but our defending that season was comical and it let us down badly in the second leg.

The Scholes wrongly disallowed goal too. We missed on a couple of finals and potential CL titles because of huge referee errors. It's why i like VAR so much now; it has it's flaws but things like that should not happen again.

Irwin with a beautiful freekick in that game too. Extremely frustrating end, with Neil bloody Ruddock grabbing the equaliser with 10 mins to go. Still won the league comfortably though..

Still remember that Porto match as if it were yesterday. Scholes was about ten yards onside - it felt that way, anyway. The Portsmouth and Arsenal FA Cup ties were sickening and I’m not surprised that they’ve been mentioned almost immediately.

More recent and perhaps (slightly) under the radar, but the entire run in from Wigan to Everton to City was a disgrace. Put confirmation into the argument that the oldies were finished as regular first team players; I don’t think Park had played a game in about four bloody months before starting the derby. We’d lost that match before a ball had been kicked.

There’s a game we lost to Chelsea, too. It came from a stupid Martin Atkinson decision and (I think) a Drogba offside goal. Still winds me up.

This one shouldn't but that wee rat Noble carrying Herrera off the pitch. Not one player or even the physio did anything to stop it or have a go at him and Herrera just letting him do it.

Jesus, that Olic goal. Carrick played like a big jessy in these matches for about two years, I remember. That Bayern goal being the height of his passiveness.
