I agree with most of what you're saying. But what I would say is whenever I've seen Sancho play on the right, he plays in the areas an inverted winger would. His control is dribbling is excellent enough that he can play on the right but come inside as well. It doesn't have to be as simple as left footed right wing, right footed left wing.

Sancho isn't the type of winger to go on the outside everytime.
Yes Sancho plays in the areas an inverted winger would, however my point here is that the space he's given in the Bundesliga can't be overlooked and it's much more harder for a right footed player to play in the same role in the PL.

I'm not as confident as rest of the chaps on here that he'd be a guarantee success for our right side, the last thing we want here is that we bring in a £100m player that is better suited for our left wing spot.

Exactly. Which is why I don't get the moaning about a young player. Getting the defensive aspects of your game is much more difficult than developing going forward. I'm very happy with wan Bissaka
I’m very happy with him too realistically I don’t think he’ll be an attacking wise elite level RB but I’m sure he can work on that and be good enough.

If he can continue to lock down the LW on defence and contribute occasionally in offence the positives outweigh the negatives.

Especially with the perfect RW who can be really unshackled defensively. Ahem. Sancho.

I don't think the emphasis is on his willingness to play here it should be on our negotiation to come to an agreement with Dortmund, that's why this transfer is way off.

I didn't say he will ever become elite level but I don't think we should underestimate how much he could improve, both G Neville or most recently Robertson didn't have the attacking abilities in their early careers and look how they have turned out.

I guess time will tell as he's only been with us for less than a year playing without a proper right sided forward/winger.
Robertson was always brilliant going forward, and Gary Neville was always alright.

Robertson was okay at Hull but certainly not as great as he is now for Liverpool.

Whereas G Neville, his crossing ability wasn't great at the start, he certainly learnt a lot from Beckham that's for sure.

Although we must acknowledge the role Hakimi has in allowing Sancho to do what he does offensively too with support. It would be naive and disappointing for anyone expecting Sancho to walk in and attack the right without support.

Those overlaps are a massive supportive measure in creating space or giving Sancho choices.

@Rozay used to sing the praises of Robertson while he was at Hull and wanted us to sign him. He even created a thread on the player which you could probably find via the search function. I'd trust his opinion on Robertson personally.

Agreed. It’s not like those that knew him well weren’t happy with attacking contributions.

Why is the Sancho transfer thread full of AWB vs Neville vs Robertson talk?

On topic, when have Dortmund held on to a player that wanted to leave? Lewandowski comes to mind, running down his contract, but other examples?

Fair enough if Robertson was highly rated at Hull when it comes to attacking but he has still improved and by a large margin without a doubt.

The point I was making is that we can't underestimate players improvement overtime when we talk about AWB potential in this regard, not expecting him to become elite level but he could do a decent job there and something that can be compromised given his defensive capabilities.

Some of you talk like you expect AWB to reach Trent Alexander levels in an attacking sense.
He will never be that player. Our best hope is that he becomes competent and decent on the ball. I think it's something natural. And working on it will only take you so far.
What effect it will have on Sancho if he signs, I don't know. My hope is that we learn as a team to retain possession well enough for AWB to maintain high positions on the pitch so that the burden of attack doesn't kill any winger playing in front of him.

Just to add to your post..

Hakimi is also brilliant at combination play and his link up with Sancho in attack at times was beautiful to watch. Hakimi scored 5 goals in the Bundesliga this season and has 10 assists while having another 4 goals in the Champions league. He's also good defensively considering he is expected to contribute in attack too which makes him a frightening prospect and he's still only 21.

We do have young Ethan Laird too..

It would be good to provide some quotes on who actually mentioned this

For what it's worth, in 2020 AWB has created more goalscoring chances than TAA.

It’s relevant to the role he will take up to be fair. People debating his ability to interact with our current fullbacks.

I cannot see any scenario where Dortmund don’t sell. If the fee is close to £100m or over with add ons as expected it would be financially the most stupid decision to say no and let him go for free especially when they won’t be ahead of Bayern next season.

Agreed Hakimi is one of the best currently in the world for this. Real Madrid have really gotten a great deal out of his loan.

Agreed, lets get back on topic. We can shame AWB detractors all day in his performance thread.

I don't think there is an example of Dortmund keeping a player who wanted to leave. Most don't leave quite as early as Sancho would be; generally they're around the 22 - 24 mark, with Dembele probably the most notable exception.

So I guess the question is, how much does Sancho really want to go? I'm certain he won't do what Dembele did and refuse to train, he doesn't seem like that type of lad to me. He's 20, so isn't necessarily in a massive rush to leave, though it does seem returning to England is the ultimate goal. He'd also be smart enough to know he would have the pick of clubs this time next year, while we're probably the only ones who can afford him right now (assuming we even can).

Have there been any reliable reports that he particularly wants to leave?

They said that last hear, wait and he'll have his pick if clubs so why leave?
He might retire there at this rate

He's 20 years old. I swear, some people on here want him so much they'll just ignore any evidence that points to the possibility he might not come.

And you seem to be going complete opposite direction, maybe he wants to come back to England as early as next season, may he doesn't want the pick of the Club's ,is it that far fetched a notion we might actually be his preferred destination but it's all conjecture just like your post was.

But its the same recycled point. What if he has already waited that year and is sick of waiting? What happens next year and we are told he might as well wait until he can go on a free? He'll have his choice of clubs then..
Thats 3 years on from being told just wait 12 months

He didn't say that, he said Sancho is less skilled than a prime-Nani when it comes to shooting. Then he went on to say that Sancho has similar dribbling/close control as Nani.

He said if he was to compare his style with anyone (Sacho) it would be with Hazard.
Yer Nani shooting was good but sancho is two footed may improve his distance shooting, but in fairness messi doesn't often shoot from distance sancho plays simular to hazard and messi,I think at least look forward to signing him hopefully.

I don't think he will ever be elite mate. He's elite defensively but he's a long way off with the ball at his feet.

I think there's at least 6 or 7 better right backs in the PL alone in the offensive side of the role.
He is a defender, not a winger. Judge him as a full back (defender) not as a winger.

What a nonsense argument. Using that logic you'd say he was better than Trent then. He isn't by the way.
I am using your argument. You are judging a player based on one attribute. Trent is a better crosser/passer, but AWB is a better dribbler, more aggressive, has more pace and more physical and better in the air and off course a better tackler.

Yer that us true he defo is good at getting forward does some skill to beat his nan needs a better cross but nou camp has been suckered in by the media by how a rb needs to be an attacker

Please - everyone - keep this on topic.

That's: Jadon Sancho in the context of transfers.
The latest news is that it's going to take us breaking our club record to get him this summer. 100m Euros. Fjortoff thinks there's every chance he will stay one more season at Dortmund.

That's been known for about a year or so hasn't it? The exact opposite of the latest news, and that Fjortoff bloke just hates us, right negative nancy.
Never got the impression that Fjørtoft hates us, he just really loves die Bundesliga. And generally a muppet that loves rumors about how attractive and powerful the bundesliga is.
