I don't think we'll do that if both Bruno and Pogba are going to start. Closer to the City 4-3-3 (w/ KdB + D Silva) than our standard 4231.
I think we still played 4-2-3-1 in our last game with Pogba Bruno and Matic. Though it sometimes switched to a 4-3-3.

Yup, it was pretty surprising for me. I saw Matic on the teamsheet and assumed he'd play pure DM but he basically played as if he was in a double pivot. Will be interesting to see how it goes.

Yeah I was as it happens, keep hearing Howson banging the Saul drum but unfortunately don't see any way that he signs for Utd when he is on such a huge contract at Atletico. Partey on the other hand I feel would be a shrewd signing with that release clause but know there are many on this forum who feel he isn't good enough on the ball to play there.

Not a natural DM like an Ndidi I will grant you that but can play in that area of the pitch but in a different style to him, doesn't matter anyway because don't see Atletico ever letting him leave.
So between someone like Saul or an Ndodi who do you see matching Ole, system perfectly?

Someone that has Matic's football brain but offers more mobility than him, not a easy one to solve and should be the top priority next summer no doubt about it.

He is more than good enough on the ball for us. If they think that Fred and McT are good enough on the ball to be backups, then Partey is more than good enough on the ball to be a starter.

Do we really need another player who's more successful stopping in the opposition ?
Fred,McTom and Matic can all do the same role. We need creativity.

We need another DM because Matic is the only one we have. We also need more creativity because Bruno and Pogba are the only creative midfielders we have which isn't enough considering injuries and rotation likely to happen. I'd say kill two birds with one stone and get a creative DM like Carrick. Or a player that can play both DM and an 8

Yeah someone that could play both positions would be ideal but looks like Ole isn't targeting that player in this window.

I feel that VDB can play as an 8 but know others have said he has not played much in a deeper role at Ajax.

When fred and McT are playing, we don't even need a DM. But I got your point, Bruno and Pogba need playing with a DM behind them. If we bought a quality DM then we have 4 players fighting for 2 positions, nothing wrong with that.

Partey's passing and dribbling skills are so underrated, I don't think he has creativity like Carrick, but still would be a good signing for us.

Partey was the best player in both ties against Liverpool this year. If we get CL football, we should go for him and rotate between him and Matic next year for that DM position. No brainer signing. Man's a beast.

Looks like Arsenal will get him it seems. There's talk of them selling a few players to make funds available to sign Partey too.

Would be so disappointing to see him end up at Arsenal this summer and waste away when he could be such a better addition to our midfield.

Matic has looked rejuvenated recently with him back to full fitness but I don't trust him to be our long term option at holding mid regardless of his extension

I really can't understand going to Arsenal atm.
He's reportedly been keen of playing in England for a while according to his camp and Arsenal seem to be the main ones interested with Guendouzi on the way out and Ceballos's future up in the air.

It makes a ton of sense for them but I was hoping we would've thrown our name into the hat given his low release clause and that we'll need to find a Matic alternative sooner rather than later and he fits the bill so well being one of the midfield with anchors of one of the strongest defensive sides in Europe perenially.

Could also see him having another 5 years of prime years left which would be perfect given the current age/makeup of our squad.

Woody should hijack this deal if he has genuine ambitions for United. We need this deal more than Grealish considering we are not looking
for a CB this transfer window and we are going to play a high line under Ole. (Fred and McTominay are more box to box than DM)

Moreover it stops a potential rival (Arsenal if they sign Partey) from catching up.
Partey and Sancho would make a perfect transfer window for now.

I don't get why we're not even interested. Feel like he would be worth pursuing more than Grealish. I only say Grealish because I expect them to cost a similar amount. Matic has been excellent of late but I do worry about burn out and another dip in form soon with no one really able to do the DM role.

Suppose similar point could be made if Bruno dips in form or needs resting and therefore the Grealish links.

Feel DM role is more at risk though given Matic's age.

Yeah there is obviously something about his game that Utd aren't a fan of at all which is a shame

I'm sure it's because Ole feels Mctominay and Fred can play in Matic's role. I think any possibility of us getting a DM ended when we extended Matic's contract

Yeah, I think we won't be getting a CDM this summer. Ole wants to try Scott as back up to Matic next season. Well we can't have them all innit?

Hmm I think you're right. Would require quite an evolution from both players to be able to play holding DM.

Wow that tells me he’s much better on the ball than I thought.

We should be in for him.

This guy should be a priority for us. Him and Sancho and we have a top 3 team in the country. He'd compliment Bruno and Pogba beautifully.

And you'll write off McTominay, Matic and Fred?

Matic cannot play a high number of minutes over a short amount of time. We have done it before, and he has drastically dropped in level for weeks and months.

And when we play both Fred and McT at the same time, the team struggles. And they are frankly not that good on the ball. Partey has been among the best performers over the last 2 years in his position. Can fill in for PP if needed as well.

One injury to either Matic or PP and we would be weakened quite considerable. Need a backup/starter for Matic that is good on the ball.

Ehmmm, if we get him, am not sure he will be a back up at all. He will be the first name on the team sheet in that back 6.
