We won this competition a few years ago and it didn’t really give us a taste. It did the opposite.

FA Cup is a much bigger trophy than this. This is the bridesmaid trophy.
This bridesmaid trophy gets you to the top table in the CL draw. F.A. Cup gets EL football.

Heard of squad management? Why does it always have to be only 2 choices, play the kids or full strength team? The only reason our squad is burnt out right now is because there was a complete lack of game time management. Play the kids against LASK and then maybe a bit rotated team in quarters. Full strength after that.
Because its not a matter of just playing them for a period of a game. They'd have to train full days in between. I'd like to see a few key players rested by not even going to this tournament. Allow them to have a holiday and rest up for a big pre season.

He's passed one test now it's stage two a trophy.

We don't wanna go too long without silverwear, get it won but start the reserves in the first two matches. We should have enough for Copenhagen and that Turkish team.

A few squad changes would be ok, but we should be aiming to win this. Rest Bruno or Pogba, along with Rashford.

Now that champions league is secured.

Don’t think we should bother with the Europa league. Yeah it’s another trophy, but we over used our starting 11 and they all need a break.

Would give some of the young and fringe players a go.
They will get enough rest. And moreover its just 3 more games (excluding the LASK game). Better playing competitive matches to prepare yourselves for new season than meaningless friendlies in Us or china.

Play the kids in the LASK game as that tie is over as a contest after the 1st leg result.

Then play a mixture of 1st team/youngsters for the quarter finals. Reach the semi finals/final then of course play our best players.

Pretty irrelevant when this is the last competition of the season before a break and then the next season starts up again with the schedule back to normal
Um, have you seen the dates of next season?

Play the kids for as long as we can risk it.

We can definitely do it in the next game against LASK.

We can probably do it in the first leg of the next round dependant on who we get.

After that we'll need a full strength XI or at least close to it.

I want to win this.

We`ll apparently be given 2 weeks off by the PL if we make the final and if its the case we need to go for it. Unlike the FA Cup circumstances favor us to go all the way without consequences. We can play the youth in our next game, a couple of regular starters in the QF then go for it from the semis and we`ll have the advantage of fresher legs and no pressure after getting top4.
Winning breeds mentality we should aim to win the EL to build confidence and momentum going into next season.

It's four games in total, the return against LASK could be handled by the u18's and then we have a QF against an average Championship level team. It's two games max that we have to play our best 11 so it's a no brainer to go for it.

Not really - we get a much more favorable draw in the UCL and we get a European trophy. No brainer.
And we only get a three week break between seasons, which will impact every competition we play in.

None of our potential new signings can play this. So it’s not really great preparation.

Under a tree.
For players like AWB and Maguire who is our captain winning and lifting their first trophy would be huge for them, you have to start somewhere it can't always just be about the PL or CL, same for Ole, who is still learning on the job.

Ole needs to mix it up. Fred and Scott in midfield, TFM in defence, Axel/Bailey, and James/ Chong. Needs to keep 6 first teamers and 5 squad players for each game. Would rotate Bruno/ Pogba. Marcus/ Martial. Maguire/ Lindelof. Magic needs a holiday.

don’t want to see Lingard, Andreas, or Dalot.

Obviously, being 5-0 up on LASK already, put Romero in goal, Ighalo up front, Fred and McT in the middle, James running around like a madman, and Lingard picking the ball off the keeper for three goals. Kids can fill in the rest and sub.

After that, having had two weeks to recover and work on tactics, the starting XI waltz through the quarterfinals.

A week later, the starting XI twist through the semis.

A week after that, the starting XI mosh through the finals against an Inter that make Sanchez and Lukaku look like they still have game left in them.

We bring home a trophy, and sit and stare at it for three weeks before launching the 2020-21 campaign. We might also recover, train and work on tactics during all that time, too.

Voted full-strength from the Semis, but I'd rather it was full strength from the Quarters, or at least a mixed XI considering the likely weaker team we'll be facing in opposition at that stage.

I want us to have a trophy at the end of the season. Ole and the team deserve it.

No different to some of our rivals then who are still playing in Europe. You're acting like other teams will get 2/3 months off.

We must go for the trophy, trophies mean everything, it’s what football is about. Europa League is a major trophy, bigger than the FA Cup and League Cup. For a team like ours, where there is no chance of winning the league and Champions League, we of course go for gold.

Saying that, we can easily match our stars with reserves and field a better team than most remaining sides in the cup. Rest the tired players, throw in those who are rested and motivated. Winning the trophy would be hugely satisfying and a catalyst for development.

The first team will be fine. We will play all squad players next match as we won 5-0, that will give the first team a 2 weeks rest. Then there is 3 matchs left where we can go all in to win the trophy.
We will be first pot in champions league if we win this and it is good for young players to get used to win trophies.

We need to build a winning culture. And the players have had the longer period of rest of their entire careers between March and June.

I mean we did finish 2nd the next year. So not all bad.

Liverpool, Spurs, and Leicester will get almost two months off, their season is over. Arsenal get just one week less than that, due to the FA Cup.

Chelsea will probably get 5 weeks off, assuming Bayern finish the job. So it only affects us, City and Wolves - and City are in the champions league, which is a way more important competition and worth gambling fitness for.

Surely with the short turnaround before the new season we should heavily rotate. We don't need to risk any injuries to key players.

We should start with something like this:

Romero, Williams, Dalot, Maguire, Fosu Mensa, Fred, McTominay, James, Lingard, Mata, Ighalo.

Liverpools first game is Charity shield on Aug 30th - so 5 weeks off. Not sure where you got 2 months from. Can't see them playing a team full of kids in that match - you know why? Because they want to win stuff...

Voted full strength all the way, because I really want a trophy. It would taste especially sweet in Ole’s first season. The game v LASK as an obvious exception, but that should go without saying.

If they keep celebrating like they have been it might be better to be playing with some rest, than complete rest.

How much money do we win if we win the EL?

Regardless we should be collecting a trophy.
It’s about £14m for the winner in total but only £4m of that is for winning the final, prize money stacks in qualifying for each round.

Fair point. Still, longer than us, and those other teams still benefit too.
And the winning argument isn’t the point, we all want to win stuff, and we all recognise that sometimes you have to rest players. This is about where the line is between the two. Given that we limped over the line for the last two season looking really tired, going into the season at a disadvantage doesn’t really appeal. Especially as it’s not a given we’ll win the EL, and even if we do, it’s not a major trophy.

With a 5-0 lead he'll yeah. However, after that it's full steam ahead. At the end of the day Ole will be based on Trophies not team selection.
