I agree, I find it strangely satisfying when teams are coached by former players, I guess it reinforces the identity I associate with the team and I like when teams have distinct identities.

Strange decision considering how close the league was this year(Lazio in fourth five points off first) , but something tells me Pirlo will work out. I don’t see much competition in the league, but if Conte wins it next year (he was only a point off would all the blame even fall on Pirlo? He belong to a generation of players that played under some impressive coaches and has a generational football mind to boot together with immense success and close to universal respect of his peers. I wouldn't count him out so fast. A mainstay during his active career was also Mauro Tassoti the defensive mastermind nestor at Milan. A smart fella like Pirlo probably picked some things up about the game and a winning mentality he can convey. Will be interesting to see how this goes.

I love pirlo, my favourite ever player other than Scholes. He will be a brilliant manager, tactics are paramount in this game and he has studied under the best.
Finally teams are beginning to see that you don't need a big name to win, you need to create a winning culture bay the club and you need a winner to do that.

I like it’s. Its a good direction that football is going in, and I enjoy seeing guys who I enjoyed as players growing up now becoming managers. Experience is overrated, as we’ve seen so many “experienced, safe pairs of hands” underwhelm at their jobs. Why not try something else?

Bit weird that so many in this thread are so upset about this considering it’s not even our club. Pirlo is one of the best midfielders of the past generation. How could you not want to see what he’s like as a manager?

Strange scenario. On the one hand, it's absolutely batshit that someone with no managerial experience walks into a job like Juventus. Still, it's difficult to envisage them doing much worse than they have in the league this season.

If Conte didn't start kicking off at Inter you'd think there's real potential for them to win the league next season.

Guardiola at least coached Barcelona B for a season before making the jump to the first team. And he had his credentials. I'm a huge fan of Pirlo though so I wish him well

One thing we do agree on is it will be VERY bad next season. Besides Ronaldo and Dybala and maybe 1 or 2 players the squad is horrible and you have the worse coach out of the top 6 Serie A clubs.

Really? Bentancur, Arthur, kulusevski, dybala, Ronaldo, de light, demiral, Costa and rabiot who ended improving a lot at the end of the season plus one striker that will replace higuain. The squad looks good, the only week spot imo is right fullback, although cuadrado did a good job there. Who knows about Pirlo, hopefully he turns out great. Despite the horrible play, I honestly still think that the team should have given sarri one more year. Coming from Conte and allegri it always was going to be very difficult to change the style of play in just one season.

Whilst I wanted Zidane for Juventus - I think Pirlo can be good for them..

Ex players of clubs have a feeling of knowing their environment and club well enough to manage them in a different way. Midfielders as well are a position I rate towards being good managers as well due to their playing abilities towards trying to see play from deep or dictate play.
