Looks like all the clubs think this is the way to go - Ole, Lampard, Arteta Zidane etc. Its weird but fun
I agree, I find it strangely satisfying when teams are coached by former players, I guess it reinforces the identity I associate with the team and I like when teams have distinct identities.

That said, 9 days managerial experience with the U23s to managing Ronaldo is :houllier:

Wow.

Loved Pirlo as a player but not sure how this will go. He was coming in to manage their primavera side wasn't he? Guess they want him to do a Guardiola.

Has poch got any othet skills he can fall back on? A backup career of some sort?
Dunder Mifflin is probably looking for a new manager.
No but really I do wish the best for Poch. His record against the top sides is so alarming though (I’ll admit I haven’t seen the exact number) but I think he can progress.

Strange decision considering how close the league was this year(Lazio in fourth five points off first) , but something tells me Pirlo will work out. I don’t see much competition in the league, but if Conte wins it next year (he was only a point off would all the blame even fall on Pirlo? Maybe they see it as a time to rebuild the core of the team? I have no idea why am I even writing this

He belong to a generation of players that played under some impressive coaches and has a generational football mind to boot together with immense success and close to universal respect of his peers. I wouldn't count him out so fast. A mainstay during his active career was also Mauro Tassoti the defensive mastermind nestor at Milan. A smart fella like Pirlo probably picked some things up about the game and a winning mentality he can convey. Will be interesting to see how this goes.

Here is an oldie but goldie with Pirlo from the days during his prime. Sublime touch.

I love pirlo, my favourite ever player other than Scholes. He will be a brilliant manager, tactics are paramount in this game and he has studied under the best.
Finally teams are beginning to see that you don't need a big name to win, you need to create a winning culture bay the club and you need a winner to do that.

I like it’s. Its a good direction that football is going in, and I enjoy seeing guys who I enjoyed as players growing up now becoming managers. Experience is overrated, as we’ve seen so many “experienced, safe pairs of hands” underwhelm at their jobs. Why not try something else?

Bit weird that so many in this thread are so upset about this considering it’s not even our club. Pirlo is one of the best midfielders of the past generation. How could you not want to see what he’s like as a manager?

Strange scenario. On the one hand, it's absolutely batshit that someone with no managerial experience walks into a job like Juventus. Still, it's difficult to envisage them doing much worse than they have in the league this season.

If Conte didn't start kicking off at Inter you'd think there's real potential for them to win the league next season.

Guardiola at least coached Barcelona B for a season before making the jump to the first team. And he had his credentials. I'm a huge fan of Pirlo though so I wish him well

Honestly part of me thinks that in about 10 years, big clubs may actually appoint player managers. It seems silly but managers are getting increasingly inexperienced.

With your track record its hard to take your post serious.

One thing we do agree on is it will be VERY bad next season. Besides Ronaldo and Dybala and maybe 1 or 2 players the squad is horrible and you have the worse coach out of the top 6 Serie A clubs.
Really? Bentancur, Arthur, kulusevski, dybala, Ronaldo, de light, demiral, Costa and rabiot who ended improving a lot at the end of the season plus one striker that will replace higuain. The squad looks good, the only week spot imo is right fullback, although cuadrado did a good job there. Who knows about Pirlo, hopefully he turns out great. Despite the horrible play, I honestly still think that the team should have given sarri one more year. Coming from Conte and allegri it always was going to be very difficult to change the style of play in just one season.

still hiding your man, you deluded fanboy  the earlier he goes, the sooner my club can reset full stop; he is only milking his wage, at this point, which will make for parasitesque sniding remarks from his claque day in day out.

Juventus should try and bin off Ronaldo why he still has some value.

They need a serious rebuild and they won't be contending for the CL with Ronaldo either way.

We need to sign Tonali, Zaniolo who are both our target and a good right back and we will be great next season.

Maybe Pirlo has some managerial talent we don't know about, but some Juve insiders might think he has serious potential. We will see, i think they will be up there in the title fight as usual, i think the CL will count more and will showcase how good he really is. Unless of course he fails in the league completely. But interesting and thrilling choice.

One thing I found funny with this story is the English press were fecking adamant that Pochettino was going to be Juve’s main target. Yet Vecchia Signora (the Juve version of this place) were all talking about Paulo Sousa and Andrea Pirlo from Italian sources, and barely a mention of Pochettino came up... which goes to show the English media know nothing

Whilst I wanted Zidane for Juventus - I think Pirlo can be good for them..

Ex players of clubs have a feeling of knowing their environment and club well enough to manage them in a different way. Midfielders as well are a position I rate towards being good managers as well due to their playing abilities towards trying to see play from deep or dictate play.

Well yeah I'd guess Italian sources are closer to Juve than the Sun and the Daily Mail...

To be fair, I still remember when Zidane was first appointed as manager, people here laugh at that and thought it would be a disaster.

In his 4 years of managerial career, he won 3 CL and 2 La Liga titles.

People also thought Lampard and Ole would be a disaster when they are first appointed, they finished 3rd and 4th this season on the league, not exactly a disaster for them yet.

Not saying Pirlo would be success too, but people have to learn not to judge too early.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
:keano: 2020s is going to be so much fun.
Great start already with veterans and legends managing the top clubs they played for.

Juve - Pirlo
United - Ole
Chelsea - Lampard
Arsenal - Arteta
Real - Zidane

Who else? More incoming.

Arteta too I suppose for Arsenal's standard - won them another FA Cup.

It's as if people don't learn at all... would be great if we let them try first and have a go then judge afterwards their work once they've actually done things.
