The deadline was all over the media / social media, what did Ed want, a telegram?
The point is it wasn't anywhere near a genuine deadline to be taken seriously, we weren't told the deal it had to be done before then by anyone, be it Dortmund, Sancho's camp etc. As has been proven with talks still going ahead, yet people acted and bizarrely are still acting like there was no hope of the deal happening after that date.

This transfer is now very unlikely, the player seems happy where he is. Don't know why the club is giving the impression we are still in for him. We really need to be focusing on strengthening the other areas of the team.

Looks like he's staying to me. I'm beginning to suspect he's not that keen on coming here, probably waiting for somebody else to come in for him next summer.
If i were him I would wait for Bayern, Real, Barca, City or Liverpool. Pains me to say it but if he is that mint he will want to play for a proper quality side.

As much I am disappointed so far with this saga, let's be realistic in view of the hardball by Dortmund. From the rumours we accepted to pay 120 million in installments, which is fair as it wi affect transfer budget and cost involved in the present climate. Covid-19 considerations have to be made, I think we can wait for an another year and also join bidding war if needed. In present climate is not suitable to monetize Sancho with sponsorships, as there would hardly be new sponsors or renewals with big money. Next year all clubs will suffer financially even more.

No one will pay beyond 120 million with one year gone by on Sancho contract, also with the experience of recent high value transfers like hazard, Demele, Countinho, Felix, Greizman clubs will think thrice before throwing in 100 million and who would join the race next season? Real Madrid? With hazard and alacantra may not, Barcelona - never, City - Pep said they won't go, Jadon also may not prefer, Liverpool - no, Bayern - Dortmund won't prefer and Jadon might not prefer as he still stays in Germany, Bayern rarely overpays and there will be premium as they are in same league, Chelsea - no, PSG - no, they would rather try to renew mbappe and Neymar and if one of them departs, then like Jadon knows the path. Juventus - not with Ronaldo still there.

We can wait for an year, Jadon doesn't make us instant champions now, but may be after a year when we can sort the small missing pieces without splashing 120 million and no room for others.

You are a shining light in this misery buddy.

I think some have lost hope after the Dortmund players saying he’s staying and then apparently Sancho’s camp saying he’s happy there.

I’ve totally given up on all Journo’s, it only serves to stress you our all the more. Now I just hold out hope that there’s still a chance becuase we haven’t confirmed we’ve pulled out of talks.

My confidence in this is fading though :(

I did see reports the other day that Dortmund told us about this deadline when we spoke to them a couple of months ago. It depends on who you believe, but the consensus amongst most journos is that we weren't told of the deadline. Who is right? It's anybodys guess. But there's conflicting statements all over the place, so I think it's safe to say some of these journos are talking out of their backside and don't know what's going on at all.

I'm a noob for economy, could you explain this to me.
It's very simple. In UK reported wages are before tax, so Lukaku's reported wage is around 250K but his net would be around 130K per week (roughly btw)
In Serie A, the reported wages is after tax, so if they report Lukaku is earning around 7.5 million wages that means he earns around 140K per week after tax.

The way wages are reported is different.

Umm what?
If they really wanted to keep him, why wouldn't they just stop talking about him, instead of hyping up his relevance and value.

Would it not be better for them to try to make it more quiet around Jadon so that he could focus on the coming season.

We'd be the ones looking desperate if we were the only ones talking about him.

No I am saying that he's got little idea about what happens outside the UK and Norway and that he should trust his scouts more.

If our scouts can't be trusted then sack the lot and hire new people
Ah okay. Maybe not such a good idea to bring in tokenism into an argument which has nothing to do with that then?

United are linked strongly with Pau Torres and Gabriel amongst others. Are these British players? We're also linked to VdB who is Dutch.

We just signed a young full back from Madrid, was he not found by these scouts and then given the nod by the manager?

We tried to sign Dybala and Eriksen last summer but neither player wanted to move to United and neither is British or Norwegian.

We've not signed any Norwegians and the only one genuinely linked to United was Josh King, and we ended up signing a Nigerian.

Yep, Brexit United is clearly a thing.

One of the many drawbacks whenever a deal like this lasts so long is there's just so much waffle to sift through because there's the time for the narrative to be really spiced up in all different directions. I can see why we lose so many muppets along the way.

One thing I will say is that people are taking solace in the fact that we've not publicly walked away from this as we did Griezmann and Dybala. But I don't think we'd admit that right now because it'll massively dampen spirits and in the fanbase whilst we're trying to win the EL. They will want our supporters spreading positivity about that rather than murdering Woodward on social media.

Its a public show, not actually an element of negotiations.
Especially with how slow Dortmund are operating.
Make a statement that trashes their reputation if the does leave.. ..for PR reasons?

Thanks. But we didn't have to pay salaries for the remainder of his contract or something like that?

Nice comment from a Manchester United fan this. Tell me though how can we become a proper quality side without signing players like him?

It’s just the anti English brigade on here pushing their own agenda.

I'm often unsure if some people here are actual United supporters or they just love to hate United.

Umm what?
Basically, the more they talk about Sancho staying, the more for sale he is.

You wouldn't walk down the street shouting "my house isn't for sale, no one better get any ideas of putting a bid in because I'm not selling" if you had zero intention of actually selling it.

If Dortmund really weren't selling him they wouldn't be screaming about not selling him every day or so. They'd have shut up by now and be preparing for next season.

He didn't suggest we shouldn't sign him though. It's just that Sancho might want to do better.

Considering our last seven years, it's a big risk for a highly-rated young talent to come here. It would be hard to blame Sancho if he was worried about getting stuck fighting for top 4 every year instead of challenging for the major trophies.

We literally have 3 English players transfered in pkaying in our first 11 with Shaw being brought in 5 odd years ago.
Lets say this isnt a problem.
160m spent and we are still searching for a CB to partner our 80m signing and a LB who is not a crock and can provide us with more then 0 assists per season

Glad I didn’t invest time in these silly transfers. God I miss the days where there was no social media platform and we just relied on telle tex for updates.

Sadly, I’ve lost all faith in this transfer.

just hoping we have eyes on other targets and not wasting our time here

I would be very interested to know what the price difference would be between the cost of Havertz and Sancho. Both players are similar talent, leading talent for their counties.
If we are to believe Sancho's comments yesterday he's very content at Dortmund, we should only want player who are fully committed to joining us, we'll see over the next few weeks if it's the case. We'll see movement on transfers in and out once the EL is over. Sancho is a massive talent and would be a brilliant signing, I'm not too sure it will happen this summer.

Honestly this thread needs closing. Just seen the reports that we offered Sancho a pay cut, definitely not happening.
Come on now, that can't be true. We offer unreasonably high wages even to shite players.

That's paper talk again. What we were strongly linked with were Haaland, King, Graelish and Sancho.

Also We ended up signing a Nigerian with EPL experience.
