Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Something happened when The Glazers and Woodward decided to sack Mourinho.

It’s a false narrative and a myth that the owners doesn’t invest as much as they can in the club the last two seasons. From that point the owners has done absolutely nothing wrong and the clubs annual reports and our latest Q3 report is a testament of that. The numbers doesn’t lies and if we closely scrutinize every number in the reports I could easily argue that the club have overspent our recourses the last 24 months, not the opposite.

1. It cost the club a fortune to fire Mourinho, sell Lukaku and get rid of Sanchez. We talk about at least £100m+. All this was done by recommendation probably from our manager and other trusted advisers. You should applaud such a bold move because it takes balls to make such a u-turn and then fully trust a unproven Norwegian manager and ex player to such and extent. Both Woodward and the owners literally put their neck in the Guillotine if Solskjaer had failed in his project.

2. The reason we overpaid for Maguire was because he was vital to Ole’s rebuilding project. Our weakness in the air and on set pieces gave us no options. Our new strategy includes that we first and foremost should buy English proven talents. Maguire and AWB was the best two defenders available at that time.

3. It was purely because of financial reason we bought Bruno in January 2020 instead of the summer 2019. Our cash reserves needed recovery and we needed another six more months to balance our books. Our Q3 report shows this in black and white. Sorry but you should applaud Woodward because he does a hell of a job at the moment with restricted resources. If you don’t see that then I’m sorry because numbers don’t lie. Journalists and Twitter accounts on the other hand....

4. Right now at this time we can’t pay £110m for Sancho in one installment. It’s impossible and the investment bank that handles us our revolving credit of £140m would‘t allow us to use so much of our own cash in such a short time. I’m sorry but there is no way we would use 90m and on top of that then use part of our credit in a Pandemic where we don’t know the outcome the second wave and its restrictions. At then moment we risk to lose more then £100m in revenues between Mars to October 2020.

5. Why do you condemn Woodward when he tries to do the best possible deal for us? Isn’t it obvious that Borussia Dortmund playing games with us and the media? They are in their right to ask whatever they want for Sancho but we have zero obligations to accept their valuation after such a financial turbulence last six months. You should back our stance to not fall in that trap and instead of mocking Woodward with insults you should back him if you care for the club.

I want Sancho as much as anybody else but I can’t overlook what I reading in our latest financial report. The numbers are crystal clear. We invest almost every penny in new players. We use our cash flow as much as we can.

We do everything possible to catch up with Liverpool and City. What more do you expect? Do you want the club to fire the tea lady and other local employees to buy a teenager or don’t you see what’s going on. I’m proud of how we handle this Pandemic and you should just look at Arsenal or Liverpool and see how other greedy owners act. Be careful what you ask for.
good post. i'm no glazer apologist but it always struck me as lazy and both misinformed and fact free to keep bandying about that bromide that they are leeches who are the least bit interested in letting us spend money. It goes back to the fergie value days when everyone and their dog had convinced themselves that Fergie wasn't spending any of the 'Ronaldo money' because of the PIK loans the Glazers had taken out and he is lying to protect the owners and keep his job. Never mind that he never did that and had no reason to at that time either. Well guess what, they ended up paying that off out of their own pocket and Fergie reiterated his 'no value' stance in his book that he didn't feel comfortable spending the newly inflated transfer fees by the time he was retiring or that agents now had to be paid substantial commissions as in the case of Hazard. This also came to the fore when people were calling Ole a PE teacher who was out of his depth and was obviously going to be loyal to the 'leeches' because it's his dream job instead of trying to get us challenging by spending money on the next new flavor of the moment to placate the hordes on here.

woodward has his flaws but doing what he did with Mourinho for me certainly shows he has balls, in refusing to sanction every player he wanted and selling the likes of Martial or giving him a new CB everytime he wanted one. It doesn't really matter that we signed maguire a year later because a year is still a long time, enough to know that you can't rely on your existing injury prone options or that you need someone better. If we are playing a game of waiting to see who blinks first in this whole transfer saga with Sancho i can't really argue against that considering the general financial climate with the pre covid status quo not really looking like it is going to materialise anytime soon and having to write off match day revenues. We don't need to pay 120mn pounds just because Dortmund are playing hardball.

Anyway. What's the common trait of Liverpool won the League with record breaking points, and PSG, Lyon, Bayern, and Barcelona in CL semifinal?
They all don't have Sancho.

So missing out on him is supposedly not a big deal to be a top team.

Is this one of those muppetier in-jokes that's whooshed over my head?

Im saying Romano said Sancho didnt renewed his contract while quoting that Zorc says he did. Im saying I believe Romano, and not Zorc.
And you’re wrong, thats not what he is saying. He was saying he did not renew this summer which was the rumours flying around after Zorc was miss quoted. He then confirmed what Zorc actually said. Yet you still missquote Zorc

I'd be shocked if he still came. The price is very high and we don't have much of the budget left if we sign him.

Depends how you look at it. Lukaku was sold for a slightly lower price than bought for, so I believe we lost 10m value there, maybe more. Lukaku was on £250k a week here, £13m a year, whereas in Inter if reports are to be belived €6m a year rising to 7m and 8.5m over the years. While it was never reported I'm sure we had to pay him a lump sum to make up the difference in his remaining 3 years of contract. Possibly as much as £20m if we got no "discount".
Paying off Mou was another £20m I believe?
That's at least £50m in total there. Then there's all the salary of Sanchez that we subsidized during his loan and then the final payoff for his remaining contract.

While we also saved some future money getting them off the books when their service wasn't required anymore, plus a decent chunk of Lukaku's value back in a fee, it's not hard to say how they can have cost us around £100m in the short run getting rid when we did.
This is a flawed analysis of the Lukaku transfer imo. He was signed on a 5 year contract for 75 million (with 15 mill in add-ons, and based on his performances I’m assuming most of those add-ons were never realised). That 75 mill amortised over 5 years would leave a residual value of 45 mill on the books after 2 years at the club, which is when he was sold for say 70 (unsure of the exact price). So technically we gained 25 million from the deal.
A lot of the other facts and figures mentioned in that post also seem to be based on pure conjecture.

5. People aren't mocking him just for not paying, they are mocking him because every deal with woodward involved is protracted negotiating with us eventually paying what the seller asks for. If you want to put your foot down, may be just back out and say no deal instead of briefing the media that you haven't given up, when you know what Dortmund want and aren't budging on it.

United fans are pissed off because

a- we hire an army of scouts only for us to go for the common sense signing that is often ridiculously expensive. Do we need so many scouts to unearth AWB, Sancho, Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Lukaku and Sanchez?
b- most transfer negotiations we engage in end up like a third rated telenovela like Jane the virgin.
c- we seem unable to negotiate and sign more then 1 player at a time
d- despite clearly struggling to sign players we refuse to sign a DOF. We've been in search of one for the past 2 years
e- we handle ridiculous contract extensions to players that no one wants (ex Jones) and we constantly give huge salaries to players (ex Sanchez).

Dortmund would take us more seriously if we suddenly place a 60m bid on Chiesa and another 40m + Smalling bid for Zaniolo. But no, we keep knocking at their door, begging for them to accept a fee on our terms.

Yeah I know our 250k pound a week was gross, I tried to look for the best source for Lukaku wages now and it looked like it was also reported gross, but I wasn't sure. Lower taxes helps a lot for sure.

Anyway I was just trying to point out how you can take various sums and tally them up to be a cost for budgeting while we also save some money. The £100m someone suggested above was prob taken out of thin air, but it did cost us quite a bit to get rid of just those 3.

Serie A wages are always reported after tax, GdS publishes all player wages and it's very good for that info

Yeah but we don't have their players so need to sign others.

Maybe he could look at a top player from Portugal perhaps...

Bruno Fernandes had been scouted for months. Every man and his dog knew how ridiculously good he was. Yet we only signed him in January and we need to thank the gods that he hadn't moved to Spurs beforehand. That's because Ole thought that it was more important signing two good but hardly world class English defenders who are nowhere near to WC and a Welsh winger that can run alot.

Bruno is the first WC player ole signed and he was the one who saved Ole's career with us.

We need more Bruno like signings as British talent is often too expensive

But now you've changed what you are arguing. You said he needs to look beyond the UK for players and I indicated with my post that he already has. Your childish complaint now is that it wasn't soon enough.

How do you know that he wasn't pushing for Bruno on the summer and Sporting didn't want to do a deal? You don't know is the answer, none of us do, we can only speculate

1 player out of 4 (or 5 if we add Sancho in the equation). It reminds me of those 70s TV series we're they would add this person from an ethnic minority in a sea of white people to give the impression that they believe in diversity

British talent is prohibitively expensive. We won't be able to get out of this whole by relying most on it

Ah, so Ole is a xenophobe or a racist now? Is this what you are saying?

We literally have 3 English players transfered in pkaying in our first 11 with Shaw being brought in 5 odd years ago.
Lets say this isnt a problem.

There’s nothing wrong with a Europa title, whether it’s EL or CL. A final is always an experience, especially for this young team that haven’t won anything together yet.

So nah, I would rather my team going into a semifinal in the Europa than going to a training camp in Switzerland haven’t won feck all last 8 years (BD).

I agree mate I would rather that too. There’s nothing wrong with it at all and it’s still an achievement. But what I’m saying is goading Jadon about it is hardly having one over on him. Like I said,we are Manchester United. A champions league team! Even he knows what our club is all about and it’s not Europa.

But anyways, another day another transfer saga!

Any muppets out there reading this if you’re having a bad day just remember Sancho didn’t actually say “I’m happy here”

Deep breaths!

No I am saying that he's got little idea about what happens outside the UK and Norway and that he should trust his scouts more.

If our scouts can't be trusted then sack the lot and hire new people

You just know if it was Real or Barcelona, a transfer request would be handed in with the player agitating for the move and making it difficult for Dortmund. Who was the last player we wanted who handed in a transfer request in order to join us? Berbatov?

I think you are just making an unreasonable inference based on the current evidence (last two transfer windows). Reasonable inference would be United and Ole wanted to be risk-averse with bringing in players esp. given transfer failures under previous management. Thus, he went for players who are more likely to have positive influence in the team straightaway. And those are players with the experience in the PL. However good our scouts may be with scouting talents outside PL, there's always a higher likelihood they take a longer to settle or even succeed in PL. That's it. We took a risk with Bruno in the winter, and it worked well for us. And as we get closer to a more settled squad, Ole and United can take more risks with players outside the PL.

Agree 100% with this.

Regarding scouting, I wonder if we would unearth more gems by sacking all the scouts and getting Ole a copy of CM...

I'm getting that feeling too.

What is quite laughable is that we've been after him for a few years now and, when it comes to the crunch and we could sign him, we're now in disagreement about the price Dortmund want, the amount of money the agent wants and the wages that Sancho wants. What ground work have we actually done over the last few years?
