The only bright side to this loss is the fact that the players can get some more days of rest and pre-season to prepare for next season.
The difference came in the subs, in the end. We pounded Sevilla hard and prevented them from playing on the front foot in the 2nd half. They dropped deep and tried to contain us in the hopes of not conceding a 2nd goal. These were similar tactics to when they faced us at Old Trafford a couple of seasons ago, and in the end, they worked out for them as our defence lost their concentration and let in a stupid 2nd goal.
Back to the subs: despite being better players, both Ocampos and En-Nesyri struggled against us. Lopetegui rectified that with two early subs in Munir and Luuk de Jong, respectively, and even though they weren't better players on paper, both of them made the difference in the end with their freshness. In our case, we could have taken off Rashford early, who broke up the majority of our attacks and was barely influential. James would have made some sort of a difference off the left wing with his freshness and quickness.
Oh well, it's all over now. Sevilla took their chances when they came; they made their subs when they needed to. We didn't do either, and those were the differences in the end.
