Red Card for Casemiro!
We were the better team, in my opinion. And not just because of those 15 minutes after half time. We just weren't clinical in front of goal - Martial and Rashford both forgot their shooting boots at home. We could have been 3-1 up by the hour mark.

Sevilla by contrast are a nasty, playacting team who hung on for their lives, used the dark arts to con the ref very effectively and then capitalized on two mistakes from our defence.

Defensively, I don't see anything else Ole could have done. Picking Fred over Matic was a brilliant move - he was the best midfielder on the pitch today buzzing around everywhere. Williams switched off for the first goal and Lindelof switched off for the second one. Just one of those days. Pogba was class in some moments and a bit naive in others. Bruno had a better game than his last few outings, but didn't have enough movement in front of him at times.

AWB-Greenwood just doesn't work, they seem to have no chemistry at all. Rashford looks like a much better player when he's got Shaw overlapping, too. We got outdone on the flanks multiple times as a result.

You can blame Ole all you want for making the first sub in the 86th minute, but a tired off-colour Rashford is still miles ahead of James who just doesn't look like he belongs at this level. Mata would have been outmuscled and outrun and Ighalo would not even get the ball since he doesn't have Martial's movement.

We desperately need more squad depth and a starting RW. If we don't get at least 3 players this window, we'll be in trouble going into the next season. Given that insane schedule, we'll struggle to make it to top four if even one of our starting XI is out for a while.

Disappointing end to the season, but not the end of the world. We looked like what we are, a young team who got beat by a much more streetwise group of players. Bloody noses like these are all part of the learning process I'm afraid, the price we pay for developing young players rather than buying seasoned campaigners. Doesn't mean we should change anything, we just have to keep at it, because keeping this group together and reflecting on the experience is how we improve.

I just hope we get some rest before next season, which is right around the corner.

It is on the players and its not great but it happens to every team. We largely dominated them.

Every loss doesn't mean this player and that player are frauds or that the manager isn't good enough. I just think the knee-jerk reactions on here tend to be a bit of a joke.
Yeah would agree with that. We played well until we went behind. But fact remains that you can't give away soft goals like those two and expect to win anything. We need a better coach or better defenders or both.

I'm going to make an unpopular post to cut through the inevitable bullshit. A couple of years ago Sevilla played us off the park, today we lost to them but no one who knows anything about football can say we deserved to lose. The progress is very very clear. For 15 minutes they looked like they didn't belong on the same pitch as us and they are a very decent team. For the first time since Fergie we have made clear progress and actually look like a proper side at times. We all know we are 3 or 4 players short and hopefully we get them in, our sub options for instance are horrible. The fact is that the progress made and the signings under Ole have been mostly positive and I think it's honestly the first time in ages to be positive about the future of the club.

I was terrified before tonight that we were going to be given another footballing lesson by a technical Spanish side but the reality is that we've lost a game that we were more than comfortable in and were clearly the better side. Painful yes, but the bigger picture is that we have plenty of reason for optimism. Let's hope the right signings are brought in and progress even further. It's a marathon not a sprint.
You have cut through the bullshit - great post.

feck it. Its been a long season. We're tired and it showed. Let's hope we can build up the squad so we have some decent options on the bench.

How can anyone not feel angry after being eliminated like that I don't get this. We missed ton of easy chances and got sucker punched. Feck this, I would have preferred to lose normally or being outplayed. This is garbage.
Because EL is all about Champions League. As soon as we got it this cup became maningless to me.
Look, if we played like shit I would be fuming funnily enough but we were sensational for the second half onwards v Copenhagen and tonight against a quality side. I came out of this tonight excited about the future.
Fred playing deep could be a game changer for us. He freed up Pogba at times and was press resistent and mobile across the pitch.
Stuff like that excites me going forward.
I also dont think this seasons cup conpetitions hold much stock. 2 legs and we beat Sevilla.
Again, it just feels all pre season to me. It really looked as if extra time fecked us

Perhaps a bit of lack of experience and bad players? We crush Sevilla player by player, but they are a unit and we are not even close to matching that. Way too open at times, badly captained and badly coached, not rectifying mistakes and obvious dangers. I am not in the mood for making this an OGS-thread, but I did not see leadership and experience/savvy today.

It was quite obvious that Lopetegui instructed his playes to single out Williams, our worst player by far. Now he might have decent games every once in a while, but today he was the reason we lost. First goal is a classic case of not paying attention, second goal comes from his side as he is not able to close his player down. I do not understand why this wasn’t fixed earlier, throw in another player, put extra attention and cover to the left side, why isn’t the captain helping out Williams when he’s desperate for some momentum? Too much to handle for a young player without the needed ability.

Yeah we missed a few chances early on and should have scored bla bla, but where was the action the last 30 minutes? Don’t blame fatigue, Sevilla were utterly cramped out by 60. And also don’t blame the bench, they scored the winner through Luuk fecking de Jong.

Rectify obvious problems on the pitch and utilize the bench if we’re struggling to create, none of this happened and that’s why we lost. Very disappointing game, now it’s time for rest and transfers. This team is going nowhere without a few signings.

We should've scored but our defenders aren't going to win is anything. What sort of defending is that?

Some here are quite proud of how we played, come off it! The amount of money and wages we have wasted would buy Sevilla and we are pretending that we put in a good showing. Today just shows once again how poorly run this club is and that even our first choice 11 aren't good enough for the B European competition.

30m on Lindloff, 50m on AWB and 80m on Maguire and we struggled against a team that could only dream of spending a small perecentage of what we pay.

The better side lost. 20 shots v 7. Sevilla with a outstanding defence and keeper key for falling over the line and that slice of luck for their 1st goal when it should have been a United throw in.

Sevilla had only 3 shots on target and the defending by United on both goals was dreadful, you simply can't expect to win cup semi finals giving away soft goals like that.

We do not have too many issues, but the gaps in Lindelof's game and shaw's fitness are issues. Rashford is a discussion too. Signing Sancho/Grealish would save us from these issues.

I can’t remember many games as frustrating as that since Madrid in 2013.

Should have scored about 22 goals.

Anyone?

I think the weaknesses in the team are obvious. I think Ole and the coaches are aware of them as well. I am sad but I am not mad. The reality is we've made some improvement this season and that is encouraging. Hopefully we will continue and improve this cup form next season and reach a final under Ole.

why? they play way better football than we do. you need to realise the level of this club..
That’s part of the issue. We are the biggest club in the world. Losing to Sevilla is a poor result no matter where we are. We have far better players and should be beating them.

Levels dropping and accepting less is exactly what we should be avoiding.

Our front players need to learn (and quickly) that you don't get to be wasteful at this level. It is always going to cost you.

Defensively, we are always look likely to concede. I don't think Lindelof or Wan Bissaka are good enough for where we are aiming to be.

Disappointing defeat, didn't think we deserved to lose that game, but as is the nature of the match, if you don't take your chances, you often get punished. I can't say anyone was particularly rubbish on the night, it was an alright performance, there was a time in the game when we could have gone 2 or 3 goals clear but a mixture of poor finishing, dogged defending and outstanding goalkeeping denied us the advantage. Sevilla might not have played the better football on the night, but fair play to them, they fought like 'beavers', wore us down and when they had the chance to strike they did. Ultimately, they showed us to be a little naive and there is a lesson to take away here.

A few thoughts on the game though:
Front line has to do better in front of goal. I know they defended brilliantly and their goalkeeper had a world but we must show more composure.
Solskjaer was too slow in substitutions, I think Mata and Matic would have been good suns on the 65 to 70 min mark as we were getting frustrated and needed some experienced heads out there to calm us down.
some poor play acting from both sides. Williams had a decent game for me but wouldn't have complained if he got sent off for gamesmanship at the end.

Gutting end to the season, really wanted to beat Sevilla this time. We will get our own back on them someday, it was the same score as last time but it was a far cry from what we saw last time.

Still alot to learn.
If the first team forwards aren;t producing the goods, then you need atleast 2 quality options offensively on the bench. We dont have that. The drop in standard is apparent and its going to be likes this for the next campaign too in this covid climate.

We will go into next season with Mata,Periera and Lingard still at the club. No one wants them and yet fans think these players are capable of changing the tide for us in moments like today.Laughable.

Unlucky and doesn’t deserve knee jerk reactions. United played well there and it’s gutting to lose it. That’s cup football.

I honestly think we played a good game. With just the tiniest bit of luck we would’ve scored a couple. Young, exceptionally talented players who will definitely learn from this. On to the next season. Onwards and upwards!

We got robbed by a mature and patient Sevilla side. Also keep in mind that Sevilla is a proper team, they’re in the CL already as well. Europa League specialists.

Hopefully this loss, and the way it happened with literally zero good options on the bench, lights a big fire under Woodcocks ass to invest. We need a couple of quality players in. Urgently. Just get it done, or resign. No excuses now, the players we need are both obvious and available.

How has Wan Bissaka "done well to compensate" according to Hargreaves!?

He didn't cover the spare man, and then just left him. Odd.

Dig up stupid!
Was a far better performance than I had expected given recent form. We were the better team and second half sevilla barely created an opening nevermind a scoring chance.

Such poor defending for the winner, so disappointing as they'd been solid
Ball watching and lax from practically the entire back four - not good enough all round

Deserved better today but you get punished at this level. Real shame for Ole as no doubt the morons on this board will pile in on him

Anyone blaming AWB for the second has never played football at a coached level or understands the game. Full back is to tuck in and cover the back post. The ball and player is in the middle of the goal and both centre backs are both free not near other players. Left sided CB try’s to head the ball away Maguire and right sided CB Lindeloft should be in the middle of the goal picking up the only threat encase Maguire doesn’t cut the cross out. Then the right fullback is at far post AWB, to either collect a over hit cross or if one of the CBs manage to flick it on he’s their to pick up and move forward down the right wing. Further to this, as a CB you should never stand side on to the point you cannot see who is around you. There was a reason why Bruno targeted Lindeloft, it’s about time we have players hold each other accountable on the pitch. AWB didn’t have a great game but that goal wasn’t his fault.

We were the better team but those missed chances came back to haunt us, but we've come a long, long way this season.

The difference between our team and performance against Sevilla to now is evidence of this.

Yes, we came away with no silverware, but when Ole came in, I wanted to see the old traditions put back in to the club. Although we didn't always see this, I can now see the direction in which Ole wants to go, and tonight we were very unlucky not to beat a decent Sevilla side.

Apart from their two goals, they literally created nothing. They didn't even look like they were going to score which is credit to our defensive unit, who I thought were absolutely solid. That being said, two moments of quality from Sevilla won them they game.

All in all, I'm happy with our season, especially the way we've finished (bar tonight). Few additions and I think we'll continue to be a threat.

We were almost very good. Just not quite. Their experience showed, imo.

Hilarious bit of oscar-level Oliver Twist roleplay from Banega about an hour in one of the highlights of the game, for me.

Not fecking good enough. This team has a mental block, that game should have been put to bed within twenty minutes.

AWB is the fullback version of De Gea. He's good at one thing and seemingly shit at everything else required of his position. Not good enough.

Rashford needs to learn that when he's not on it, he loses the right to strut around like he's prime Ronaldo.
I’d be looking at moving Martial wide left ahead of Rashford and signing a top striker. We can’t afford to let Rashford spend months playing himself into form. We’re just not clinical enough, and it matters in these tight games.

As much as it always stings losing a game we really, really should have won, losing to that bunch of shitehouses makes it so much worse.

Fecking hell, even my Mrs was laughing at the Banega / Reguilon / Navas reactions to taking a light brush to the shoulder. Embarrassing.

But hey. We finished like shite. Defended like shite and had a load of shite to bring off the bench. Reinforcements and some backbone added to the squad next year and we've got all the ingredients of a very good side.

amazed people aren't mentioning the ref? i don't usually mind a bit of back and forth but how they avoided a red is beyond me, and I thought the fernandes peno was as clear as day, defender missed the ball and took him off his feet... var never checked. really strange.

They weren’t that good mate but we’ve made relegation fodder look world class in recent weeks. The signs were there when we were outplayed by West Ham and Soton.

Well organised teams that don’t attack full on give us problems
I know they weren't that good? My point was there were a certain few posters attacking people during the week for suggesting they're a good side. I personally thought we would beat them but they would give us a tough game. We only have ourselves to blame for going out as we missed too many chances.

Can someone post the video where Lindelof is arguing with Bruno? Bruno was right, it was 3vs1 and they were just watching De Jong and ruined the game. Our defence is a joke.

Missed too many chances tonight. After 60 min we started to play sloppy and invited Sevilla again.

Williams should be nowhere near starting XI but unfortunaly we dont have any other options when Shaw’s injured. He’s Young and will improve but we cant rely on him for next season.

Front 3 I am not so worried about, they having a little dip, especially Rashy but the quality is there somewhere. We need Sancho though.

Midfield - Not worried about. Fred, Matic, Pogba and Mctom is OK.

Sancho, a CB and a LB should be prio.

Over to the board now. Without a quality RW, CDM, CB and LB (to fight with Shaw) this is going to keep happening.

Our lack of squad depth is shocking and some of the starting 11 aren't good enough.

Let's see how ambitious we are... I won't hold my breath.
RW, CDM, CB agreed. But I think we need a RB more than we need a LB, OWB needs competition. It was his man and he lost him, that’s why Lindeloff is arguing with Bruno. OWB is often out of position and relies on excellent lunging ability to cover up for it.

One of the most frustrating watches ever this evening yet, it had an inevitable climax after that 10 minute spell of impotence after HT.

The defending for both goals were horrendous.

Lindelof should've taken everything out on the touchline on the first goal, Maguire's positioning was more than questionable and Brandon was sleeping also on their first goal.

The second goal...well let's just not go there.

OGS has to take a huge slice of the blame cake...how he didn't see the fact we needed changes with 25 mins to go is beyond me.

One game too far...for the team, and the manager.
