This is a waste of time. I seriously cannot understand why Ed isn't looking at other areas of improvement. Regardless of Sancho situation, he should be negotiating for CB and MID. Maybe our transfer budget will reduce from 150 to 80 million, we will tell Dortmund to take it or leave it and move off to other targets. Waiting for Sancho won't secure top 4. Improving the depth will. We don't have a clever CEO or manager.
Maybe just maybe, Ole has asked him to go for Sancho. Do you think Woody looks at the team and says.' I know what we need. I won't bother asking the coaches, I'll just go for Sancho.'

Becks wouldn't be a right winger in this era. He lacked the pace, skill and explosiveness. He'd have probably have been a RB in the TAA mould or a wide CM ala De Bruyne.
No way would he have been a full back for the exact same reasons.

De Bruyne equivalent would be an ideal role though. Utilises both his crossing and passing range

Not to mention, insane free kick conversion rate

Ok, how about Bale on a loan or freebie? I mean I'm sure Juve would allow us to loan his fellow countryman Ramsey on loan also?

The storm on here when Woody announces that we couldn't find a deal, due to covid striking our budgets hard.
That I could accept. It's crazy money if we're all honest. However to get this far, I think there must be something going on

It's that quiet that I just can't see it happening, I doubt they'll have been in talks everyday otherwise we'd have heard something. We'll let this one die out completely, then announce we pulled out of negotiations and have moved onto other targets.

There is that

I have more concerns over Covid19 right now. It'd just be a nice distraction if we did get him...but only that

I'm sure both Maguire and Wan B seemed imminent then went totally quiet for a couple of weeks. And this is a much more high profile deal.

However it has to be a good chance of what you saying happening.
Bruno showed we'll walk away if we need to.

Although it also showed what we could have been like for half a season!

Yeah it'd be a brilliant distraction and I'd love it if we got him, I just feel the outlay is too much given the situation we're all in.

Those two deals happened a week max after we briefed we'd walk away, we've already passed that stage in this deal.

Can't fault either club if it happened, no one knows when fans are back in stadiums and the pandemic won't have been factored into any budgets I'm sure. Dortmund know what a special player they have so any deal will be done on their terms, which I can't see happening this summer and it's fair enough. I'd love to be wrong.

When we finished 3rd and the season was over I actually got a little excited thinking maybe there was a 20% chance this would happen. Now I look back and think how stupid I was actually getting dragged into this imaginary thought that this would ever happen.

Kind of upsetting though. City have spent 41 million on Ake, about to spend 70m on Koulibaly, 23m on Torres and I wouldn't be surprised to see them sign more. Chelsea are going crazy. Liverpool are already far ahead and are signing quality depth in Thiago, it seems.

I don't doubt we'll get some names in and have a good window, but these are clubs we are already arguably behind, who are only getting stronger. With all that talk pre-window about how we were so strong and were going to take advantage of the pandemic, we are baulking at a very reasonable price for arguably the best youngster on the planet who will go a long way to closing that gap.

I would take Sancho over signing a few good players in other positions. We need to start prioritising quality over quantity. We will get some names in, I'm sure, but it's a bit worrying that we seem unwilling to build on any semblance of success post SAF. We arguably have a good season, then we rest on our laurels.

It is a difficult situation to be in, for sure, though. We've spent a feck load of money in the grand scheme of things, just not well and not at the right times, imo. Which for sure would make it difficult to keep justifying such spending, but that's due to their own shortcomings (refusal to get in a DOF?) etc. So who really knows.

Dembele was my alternative, but it seems Barca are unwilling to let him go too. Vinicus or Dybala would be interesting too, but the former is probably not an option and I don't see the club going in for the latter, having him already rejected us.

Becks would be the best right winger around in today’s era even if he was just stood there swinging in crosses. Plus his clone would be a completely fresh body ready to get up to modern speed.

Maybe if we knocked the damn addons on the head and just made it instalments we might actually get some progress on this

Sancho would be willing to tell Dortmund that he wants to leave this summer but only once United have made a realistic offer.

Bild are reporting that Leverkusen will receive €100m from Chelsea for Havertz...

Probably zero chance that Dortmund will nor should they come down their valuation after that

Havertz looks a cracking player tbh.
So does Sancho

Just saying that quality young talent will always be sold at a massive premium in the present and near future

120m is likely as low as it'll likely get for him with or without covid.

Heck even Arsenal had to spend 80m on an older and less proven player in Pepe just last year

Chelsea have put in work this window tbf. Even if they don't fix their defence this summer, their attack and midfield is probably set for years.

Regarding Sancho, I agree though. I don't think they ever had intention of dropping the price anyway, especially now that arguably an inferior player in Havertz is going for that much

I really hope we can get this over the line, teams around us are really beginning to spend cash

So, if that’s true, even Sancho thinks our 70m offer isn’t realistic

I can see how this will turn out - last day of transfer window, we still couldn’t convince Dortmund to lower their demands, and we will use all our funds to panick buy Grealish instead, for around 70-80m.

We're definitely not going to get him at anything lower than 100m. It's been up to us from the start if we can afford such price or not.

Very true but we won't be paying all of that €120m figure in one go,all they want is three instalments with the first one being around €80m which isn't that bad

I am still confident we will sign him.

I think Ole sees him as a must buy.
Yes but then we may get sub-standard 2nd and 3rd other transfers.

The Bruno deal may be the template for us going forward. If it's beyond your budget or evaluation walk away and if he's still around in the next window, come back and offer less -- which we did.

But Woodward may think we can do this every time. All that talk of ''what if we had got Bruno in the Summer?'' -- we still achieved the goal that we had hoped for despite getting Bruno in the last moment. An under-rated achievement.

This may empower Woodward and weaken Ole's argument for paying this much now.
