It's just a bit depressing supporting this team at times . It's like a constant cycle of being bad , mild improvement , then no investment and back to being bad . Fact that United have not signed a single player after a 2 month spell in which basically the same 11 players played every game even though there was a record number of games is just negligence at this point. I mean top quality players would have been nice to take the next step but some half decent players to just provide some depth would be most welcome at this point

Gabriel situation is cringe. If the reports are true, they tried to basically let Arsenal negotiate for them then tried to come in to hijack it

Tbf Chelsea probably have more money to spend than others as they weren't allowed to do transfers last summer and they got a lot of money from Hazard deal. Don't see other big teams spending big. Arsenal got Willian for free and it looks like they've completed Gabriel deal but that's about it. Tottenham only got Hojbjerg (and Hart on free), Liverpool got that Greek left back and City, even though they already bought Torres and Ake, seem to be struggling to complete Koulibaly transfer.

Still think we'll get Sancho and maybe one more player and I'd be satisfied with that. However, if we fail to strenghten then I could see us finishing far behind Chelsea. So it is a big month in front of us.

It’s really surprised me just how terrible some are after SAF left.

from what I’m aware of, a football club plays matches which it then charges people to watch, at stadium or at home. I don’t remember clubs committing to not ‘blunt enthusiasm’ during the transfer window, ensuring clubs business is done to satisfy faceless internet moaners who can’t handle uncertainty.

Feels like we have reached a stage where some people actually ‘get off’ on transfer muppetry, and not the game itself.

Social media and digital football games has a lot to answer for!
The season just finished is a pathetic excuse. The europa league tournament was basically a pre season/extension of the normal season, but our real season ended a month ago. Nothing related to the Europa league should've impacted any transfer business we had.

We're a team with holes and shouldve had some things sorted out already. Just poor management to be in our position right now, simple as.

50m.....that's about right when you consider what we paid for AWB? Whether we like it or not, English CB, Prem League winner with international world club experience was never going to be cheaper than 80m in this market.
Who?

These threads are on football forums all over the land at the moment....why haven't we done this, X has signed X and we've done nothing, board out etc. Ours included.

Reality is you can do deals now if you're happy to overpay but that can be the difference between signing just the one target or adding a couple. It's all fuelled by a little dopamine hit when you see a BOOM or HERE WE GO on twitter, but how many of you are happy to overpay for stuff in your personal lives?

Just do something else during the window and see where you are at the end. We're talking complex, multi-party deals with mega-money involved here, they ain't street market traders.
Only 4 Premiership clubs have not made a single signing. We are one of them.

I don't follow journos and seldom use social media. What I know is what I've seen with my own eyes.
And what I've seen is the pattern of our owners completely putting a halt to our progress once we get Champions League football. That's all it matters to them due to financial repercussions.
What follows is the inevitable drop in performance, finish out of the top 4, manager sack, rinse and repeat.
Finish the recipe by adding cafs saying our fans are too spoiled.
Yeah whenever we get champions league football those yankee leeches see it as a perfect excuse not to spend much.

I feel so sad that Ole is being treated like this by them but we all know he wouldn't just walk away from the situation because that's not him at all

Its a fecking joke to be honest. This board never used to be like this. I'd understand if we lost badly or had a string of poor performances.

But this is at the start of a transfer window in very uncertain circumstances.

I blame social media and the cesspool known as "journalists". People seem to hang onto every single word they type out. Its become a fecking disease on the mind, because none of these tweets are fact checked or even come with any remotely plausible responsibility. Its become so easy for them that they don't even have to take the time to write an article and publish it! All it takes is 150 words or less now.

They get paid for clicks, not for news authenticity or accuracy, yet people don't seem to realise this and lap up every word.

It creates a false narrative around our club 99% of the time.
agreed, feels a lot like reading fandom consciousness on twitter compared to what it used to be like. not that there aren't good posts but you have to scour them in a sea of this sort of content.

Imagine how depressing a job being a scout for Man Utd is. Unless you are dealing with the academy that has its own recruitment process you might as well be watching Netflix all day for the good your work does.

Chelsea are the ones that have backed their manager. Lampard was probably the least deserving to be backed aswell seeing how they ended the season.

I was in the Ole out camp for a long time but there's no argument that Woodward should be allowed to do the same as he did when he didn't back Jose in his third season.

All eyes on Ed Woodward the cnut. Ole did about as much as he could've done with the current squad. Unless the squad is improved with 4 or 5 signings expect more of the same. Ole isn't going to work miracles. We need a top class starting 11 and bench.

4 or 5 are needed and it looks like we didn't have targets lined up ahead of the window AGAIN.

Ole isn't a fool, we have only heard rumours about Sancho, but there is no way Ole has only identified one player for Woody to get...patience is a virtue.

I guess there is a difference between a fan and someone that sees the club as a business. I'm definitely not saying the owners or Ed are good for the club, the way the club structured itself to generate income, it left itself open to those to take it over in this kind of way. If you own it, then it's yours to do what you want with it. If the fans are not happy with how the club is being run, collectively don't continue to enable the Glazers to line their pockets at the detriment of it.

I don't believe the decline of the club is solely down to the lack of investment but down to poor recruitment especially the managers. Without simply using City or Liverpool as the template, it's not coincidence they have the best managers anymore than it is that we had for two decades. Klopp isn't buying Pogba when he knows this is the detriment of the other positions in the team that need resolving. It will be the same regarding the Sancho deal. We can't talk about the lack of investment when the top sums payed in the prem for players are mainly paid by us......
The recruitment was "poor" because the manager succession strategy was non existent. Each manager recruited needed totally different types of players.

As I've said before, I think we will only sign two players max in this transfer window, a right sided striker/winger, almost certainly Sancho, but I believe the sticking point is not so much the fee that Dortmund want, or Sancho's wages, but the fees that the agents want. Raiola got £41 million (or was it €41 million) for the Pogba transfer. I think we may go for Grealish, if we can sell some of our so called deadwood. Romero may or may not be part of that deal, and if Lingard and Pereira go, then almost certainly we will go for him, or Brooks, who I've always rated, but some on here think he is only slightly better than James.

If we have nothing done this week the chances of us sufficiently backing Ole for him to close the gap are extremely slim

I was thinking this too, either our scouts are crap or they report back and just get ignored which isn't good.

This is the state of affairs and look likely to be for as long as the Glazers and Woodward are in charge.

I can see us going through this for years up until the Glazers sell the club. The hope would be that whoever takes over then is more interested in actually having us challenge for titles.

Excuses our fans make for the board is pretty funny. "Look how it's only been 6 days the season is completed" "Ohh its covid" "Ole has to do better"

Well we are the only top 6 or 7 side who have yet to make any signing. If the issue is you don't more than 50m then why spend one month chasing sancho. Do they seriously expect to sign sancho for 50m. It's nothing but poor planning again.

Yep, might be right but we are not alone. Maybe those managers were not given long enough?

I keep hearing and seeing people say that Fernandes was bought with this summers budget. Why though?

When you think about it Fernandes was technically bought for nothing. Without signing him we would most definately have finished outside the top four. That’s £30-£40 million of CL money that we wouldn’t have got. Then there is the reduction in our shirt sponsorship, probably another £20 million less.

That’s £50-£60 million that signing him has ensured we will get paid which wipes out his transfer fee. Best free signing ever?;):D

You sign an above average defender for £80 million and then expect to sign the most exciting 19 year old talent on the planet for less than that. It’s utter lunacy.

Newsflash...... They might just be working on those exact things. Fancy that eh?

Go and have a lie down and relax. Our season doesn't start for 4 more weeks and we are going to get little to no pre season anyway due to our European exploits.
One deal at a time, that’s how we operate so I highly doubt it.

Yeah that £145m in the summer and another £55m in January was a real 'blunting of fans enthusiasm' wasn't it?

How on ever did we cope with just £200m to spend with no CL football to finance it? Poor old Ole.

Our fans literally are the worst cry babies known to man. The window has another 6 to 7 weeks left and our season ended 6 days ago for crying out loud.

Being at the panic stations phase right now is absolutely pathetic. Grow a back bone and man up.
Very spoiled. Ed this, glazers that, so and so has signed him. Can't wait until the window closes.

I would understand if the club's position is we won't spend 100m on one player. I get that but then why waste 1 month chasing that player. They are making a mockery of everyone by expecting dortmund would end up accepting 50 or 60m for sancho.

Sadly I agree with you.

I feel really sorry for Ole, he took on the job not for his ego but for the love of the club and he, like us fans, wants the club to be successful and genuine challengers for PL and CL, our owners however don’t feel the same.

Isn't it off season.. We can start getting concerned once the preseason starts.. start panicking once the season starts and start making excuses once the window "slams shut"

Take this time off..

£200 million spent but you haven’t accounted for the fact we sold Lukaku for £70 odd million and failed to replace him. It’s not just the money spent but the failure to get rid of all the deadwood in the squad. The fact we still have Rojo is comical. Pirlo has barely had the Juve job for a month and has according to Fab Romano, already terminated the contracts of Huguain and Khedeira. He’s identified deadwood and got rid of it, simple as that. Rojo reportedly wasn’t sold to Everton a few years ago cause we didn’t want to sell to a rival. Let that sink in.

Labelling supporters spoiled cause they’re demanding the club do better. OK. I hope you’re well behaved and a top red when we’re scrapping for top 6 next season because Ole wasn’t properly backed this window. You love to see it.

You can't just terminate contracts as you please there has to be a mutual agreement. The Rojo one was last year not years ago. If the window closes and we haven't sold Rojo, Bailly or Tuanzebe along with Andreas/lingard then please go ahead and vent. But the complains of our lack of spending shows how spoiled Manchester United fans are. Some fans wouldn't even mind spending all the cash reserves just to clear 1 signing, they would rather we put the clubs financial future in jeopardy. At least if training for next season had already started I would get the frustration.

Maybe you can on FIFA? Press X and start or something like that. I'm amazed that Utd fan Fred in order picking becomes a international barrister on contract law. It's ok though as Alan in accounts works with numbers. If I'm a Utd player and Ole decided as he did with Jones and Pereira to extend my contract, we should I agree to being sold? Even if they can go for a free and they want to go, which team is going to break their wage structure? Go to work tomorrow and your boss says we are transferring you to Germany, leave your house, family, friends, kids school etc for poorer team and for less money? Try going home and selling that to the wife and kids....

We've been chasing Sancho for 18 months. He's been Solksjaer's most wanted man since he took over as manager. I can absolutely understand not wanting to give up the chase. But if we're not taking Dortmund's demands seriously and seriously holding out for a discount then a move is never happening.

That's on the manager then and the recruitment team. The Glazers and Woodward don't pick the transfer targets i'm very confident on that much.
By the manner, I'm talking about how much time it takes to get those deals done.

Look, I'm not particularly fussed about the delays. Like I said, this is how they work and have done for the last three years. I could understand the anguish the first time, maybe even the second time, but now? Surely we all know how this rodeo goes??

For what it's worth, I think we'll eventually get the players in but it'll be a protracted affair for the majority of them. If we don't, then surely us as a fanbase know who is to blame and won't be hankering after yet another managerial sacking, but as it is, I don't trust half of this 'fanbase' to act rationally in those circumstances.

Does the fact that a single transfer makes us that financially vulnerable raise any concern with you? Billionaire owners and a cash cow when it comes to generating commercial revenue yet a single transfer completely destroys our cash reserve. We should be one of the few clubs able to withstand the worse from the financial impact of Covid.

Rojo wasn’t last year but it wasn’t my point. We’re holding on to a player that should’ve been sold years ago. That is incompetent and goes to the very rotten core running the club. There is time yes, but the past failures should not give anyone confidence that the right moves will be made this summer.

Wouldn't be the first time the club came in at the 11th hour, made a half-assed effort, and then said "well at least we tried" after the inevitable failure. In fact that seems to describe most of our transfer activity under Woodward.
