Not sure how we get Grealish for 30m, the estimates from everywhere appear to be over 60m for him, and our players are barely worth anything transfer wise as noone wants to play 75k a week for Lingard/Pereira
Yeah the absolute best deal we could get for Jack is £50m plus a player going the other way

Most likely because these "deadwood" are considered "assets" on the book. They can just put any price for these "assets", like Lingard is a 40m asset. So trimming the squad isn't to the best of Ed interest.
How would that help Woodward even if it was true? (it's not, I'm pretty certain Lingard is worth nil on the balance sheet)

waiting skeleton meme, that's what I'm feeling right now. I'm dreading if we end up going to last minute panic buys, that'll be so united.

It's looking like the board will fail to back Ole properly this transfer window. When that happens, and he then gets sacked while Woodward keeps his job, that's when I will have given up on United. I support a football club, not a business franchise.

Honestly, even if they get Sancho now, we're still short 3-4 players to have squad to stand to the rigours of the coming season.

I have no doubt we'd be reading opinion pieces of how Ole should be doing better with what he has when it all goes south in the coming month. And some United fans will continually fall for it. There'll be people citing Covid, or the need to preserve our cash reserves, or how we can't stand up to Messi and Man City etc etc but these people will forget to blame the one constant that has been here the past 7 years, Glazers and their pet Ed fecking Woodward.

feck you Ed Woodward.
And of course as Chelsea fill their boots with Chilwell now signed, we do what? Get Henderson, who is not first choice on a six-year deal. So strengthening in the one area of the pitch, you could argue, that is the last that needs strengthening. I say strengthening, because he hasn't been in our squad, having been out on loan.

Of course, what Sky DON'T say is that will undoubtedly mean losing Argentina international Sergio Romero, who we will let go for money.

If Woodward thinks Henderson deal is pulling the wool over anyone's eyes. He is totally wrong.

Don't mind if that leads to a £50m plus him going to Villa with Jack coming the other way

Ed gets a massive bonus each year for shafting the fans who fund said bonus.

You couldn’t make it up

We buy Maguire for £80m in a protracted affair. Chelsea snap up Chilwell for £50m in a far less protracted affair. Go figure.

We may be waiting to sell Smalling to add to the pot for Sancho purchase. Last season we were waiting for the Lukaku money to buy Maguire. Because Leicester demanded all cash upfront. Dortmund learned and are demanding the same....cash upfront.

Proper Football negotiators is why they got him for such a good price not bank managers

Woody will be wanking himself senseless at the Messi drama, takes the heat off him and gives him an imaginary transfer saga to hide behind.

Can already hear it now, we went all in on Messi and missed our other targets.

£50M for Chillwell is a good price? And they're paying him, what was it, £190K/week?

You think that's a good deal?

So proper football negotiators is what's standing between us spending an additional 30m vs saving it? All this while we are being run by bank managers? Makes total sense to me.

45m I think. Given we paid the same for AWB and 85m for Maguire, I'd say that's a good deal. Not least because Leicester were probably responsible for those reports over the last few months that he'd cost 80m.

The bad transfers Chelsea have done in recent years that I can remember are Drinkwater and Bakayoko. But they've made plenty of good deals.

Not looking like it applies right now but am I right in thinking that any signing has to quarantine for 14 days

Maybe because Maguire was/is more valuable? The more sensible comparison would be Wan-Bissaka who I rate higher than Chilwell.

Chelsea have negotiators who know what they are doing. Ed hired his pal Matt Judge as our chief Negotiator. He has a degree in economics and never dealt with a transfer before he was hired.

MUFC's transfer policy is dictated by an Investment Banker and a Econ major. It is no wonder we are consistently shit in the transfer market.

Just so I understand, are we saying a degree in Economics is a bad thing for handling the buying and selling of a player?

Cause, erm, it seems a fair bit more useful than almost any other degree outside of 'football transfers' which I have to assume hasn't replaced PPE at Oxford just yet.

Some of the stuff being spouted on here...

Grealish on deadline day for 65 million. I’d nearly put a bet on.
Can’t see Villa letting him go for that, not to United anyway. Unless of course we can convince them to take one of ours in exchange, but even then that won’t bring him down much given the deadwood status of our squad.

Reckon they would deal for £60m straight cash deal or £50m plus a Utd player going the other way

Having a Econ degree is great, having zero transfer experience and being the head of transfers for MUFC is terrible for a club of our stature.
Just like woodward, he is an investment banker and is now our CEO. Its the blind leading the blind at an executive level.

I don’t know; he’s their biggest asset by far and we have a reputation developed over the past seven years in the transfer market. Add in the “last day of the season” then I think they’d push hard for more money knowing they’d likely get it.

Agree, just can't understand why people are criticizing the man because he has an econ degree.

I was not criticizing him because of his econ degree, sorry if it came across that way.
AllI know about the guy is that he is Ed's pal, they went to uni together, he has a econ degree and has never worked on transfers before.

I dont like either of them because they are shit at their jobs and they are dragging our club down.

So I’m not an itk of any sorts as but I’ve spoken with people involved in football media and they say that over the last few years, deals are actually completed and signed way before they’re announced. Clubs (and us especially) always delay announcements and drip feed fake progress updates in order to drum up social interactions and hash tags about about the club, also looking to increase subscriptions to channels like the United stand on YouTube that feed and solidify a pro United online fan base. Apparently it’s the key to everything the club do.

sigh, the fecked up workings of modern day football clubs. Could hypothetically mean we’ve already signed Sancho the moment a price was leaked to the press though and we just create a saga story with Dortmund to increase social interaction for both clubs. It’s how we work. I don’t know if that’s certain though, just some info I thought you’d all be interested in.

I wish that was the case but my gut feeling is the deal is still miles away from even being agreed

He couldn't get Klopp because that prat made us out as an adult version of Disneyland and Klopp rightly told him to feck off
