I know. But we play 4231. So if we done our research (we can hope) he’ll be playing as a 10. Unless we finally decided to go back to 433, which either way he’ll be playing that hybrid. I think to get the best out of him he has to play that advance position in our formation. He doesn’t offer long shots like Bruno but he’s a lot more intelligent in the final third and offers the work ethic too.
I think he will play next to pogba who will play the Thiago role sitting deeper, while donny will do the goretzka role and be the box to box, first to press and join the attacks etc. He’s got bundles of stamina and energy for that role.

think Solskjær will bed him in slowly though at the start.

Ajax play a 433 and he plays the right side that is usually the more advanced of the 3. Similar to Lampard in the sense he’s a 8/10 hybrid. He loves getting into the box and a great finisher on both feet.

it’ll be interesting to see what Ole decides, whether he wants to play him deeper alongside pogba or have him on the bench as an impact sub or rotation for Fernandes.

either way he raises the squad level, adds competition and brings something different.

40m is a pretty average figure for a full international these days, it’s a very fair fee.
I was thinking about this as well.

Van de Beek looks suited to the RCM & I remember Pogba saying how his favourite position was LCM.

A flat hardworking midfield 3 of maybe what we are looking for, pressing, attacking, creativity, longshots, cover maybe what we end up playing:

Pogba - Bruno - Van De Beek
Playing a hard working midfield 3 who are each able to attack the most suitable area depending who has the space open for them makes even more sense when we have defensively capable fullbacks aswell.

I'm also someone who thinks Bruno will be better starting deeper and making runs forward than being so far away from the game almost as a a forward before trying to drop back all the time defensively to restart an attack.

I still can't see how Pogba is a hard working. He has qualities but not this one.

It's utter nonsense because you're literally making it up. He did not have a £35m release clause & you're just pretending he did to bash on the club for paying more than that in Jan.
What are you talking about bash on the club. Release clauses are not plain sailing, a selling team doesn't have to honor it, it can get very complicated. He (Bruno) did have a clause that was common knowledge. Google it, you may find something.

Our recruitment under Old has been faultless so far.
In terms of what we are looking for in players yes, but this is a bit hyperbolic surely. Whilst Maguire might improve, even before he joined us he wasn't in the elite bracket of player that his price tells us he should be, AWB is good, but he lacks certain qualities, Dan James needs more time, but again, he's not great, and i'd be surprised if he hit anywhere near the levels we need him to be at, the only fautless signing so far has been Fernandes. Again, i commend him for the type of players we are apparently targetting, but overall i'd say its been quite hit and miss so far

Sure about that? I seem to recall that his release clause was significantly higher than that - he signed a contract (with said clause implemented) in 2018.

We didn't activate his release clause when we bought him, afaik - that is, we paid less than said clause (but with various add-ons and whatnot). The clause itself was €100m , I think.

I will no doubt be corrected if this is wrong.

Yes, before he signed that contract in the summer, his previous release clause was 35m. But I also think our good relationship with Sporting also played a factor. A selling club don't have to honor the release clause, but they can be taking to court over it, which would then take a long time hence why sometimes teams pay more than the release clause to get the deal over the line.

Tbf I think the same can be said about any clubs recruitment. You hope that at the bare minimum they are decent, and try to strike gold with one out of every third or fourth player. None of the guys we've signed have flopped completely (James can't be called a flop for 15m when we all knew what he was already, but I guess he is the closest). Maguire and AWB were flawed but ultimately solid, Bruno was excellent. Hopefully VdB is similar to the latter but if he's just "solid" then that's still a great piece of business for the price when you have a squad as thin as ours.

People saying its a steal/it's not a steal..

If he does amazing for us it will be a steal and until that time he isn't. Simple really.

£36m isn't alot in todays money for an player like vdb
It is a steal compared to Grealish let's say, who has zero experienece in UCL and costs double.

The dream;

Henderson
AWB Maguire Upamecano Shaw
Thiago
VDB Pogba
Bruno
Greenwood/Rashford - Martial

Thiago will probably join Liverpool so put Matic there and Upamecano won't join until next year (if we get the chance to sign him even then), but this team would be interesting to see.

We would also have the option to play;
Henderson
AWB Maguire CB Shaw
Matic/Fred - Bruno - Pogba/VDV
Greenwood Martial Rashford

Yes I agree, but his recruitment has not been completely "faultless"

He looks like an attacker to me, similar to Muller but with great touches on the ball. A less nimble thomas Muller with the touch of griezman. He also has the added benefit of having good stamina and being able to tackle, which makes him really versatile.

At Ajax, they used him to accommodate their system, but his skillset is very broad without being defined. I think we can mould him into whatever we want in the end. I think he can play in the right flank, attacking midfield, box to box and in defensive midfield if pushed. Personally at the moment, I like his attacking game. He has the movement that people claim lingard, with the touch, nimbleness, strength and creativity to make himself effective in attack. With the way we play in which our full backs provide the width for the most part and Bruni sometimes coming deep to support Pogba when required, having a guy like VDB who can provide a constant outlet with his first touch for Pogba and bruno high up the pitch would allow us to really dominate games, whether from the right or left.

Release clause was not the regular release clause. It's more like penalty clause, which says if Sporting don't agree the bid over 35 million then they have to pay 5 million to Bruno.

I'm not going to lie, up until this point the transfer window looked like it was going to be VERY bleak.

I think this has given us all a lift and optimism that more deals can be done now. I love the fact we've paid a great price for a good player and even his wages are reasonable.

A sign of a more structured and efficient United. I like it.

Nouri was a bigger talent than Frenkie de Jong. A big loss not only to his family but football in general.
Cried like a little girl during his saga. The whole situation was tragic. Hope he takes up the shirt number
