So it appears the plan is to hold our nerve, wait until we're near the deadline and attempt to low-ball Dortmund.

I hate it.

Seeing how Chelsea strengthening, Liverpool having Thiago, City being at full strength, Tottenham having Bale and Reguilon, plus Kane who is back fit, Everton having James and Richarlison, Leicester having Madison fit and a Vardy who is probably in the final year at the top (given his age), Arsenal you never know what you get but they've kept Aubameyang and have Willian now.

United won't walk top 4 this season, in-fact Tottenham are now in a position to take fourth.

United need 2-3 more players, and they need to ship out the deadwood.
Agree with all of this except the Spurs part. I think Arsenal are far more likely to push for the top 4 than Spurs (even with Bale).

Regardless, it’s depressing seeing all of Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs strengthen significantly whilst we’ve made 1 addition.

Couple of injuries and were back to Lingard and Pereira jogging about for us in the year 2021. feck sakes. If were still intent on signing him, wtf are we waiting for ?
For Dortmund to fold and offer a discount on a player they want to keep.

We are going to look like idiots if we don't get this done. Wasted our entire summer on it and every rival has strengthened more than us.

We are supposedly richer than them all so Covid can't be too bad.

I honestly don't think we are intentionally leaving it to the last minute just to try to low ball Dortmund.

We can claim that Woodward is an idiot and the club are a shambles in the market all we want but it's clear as day to anybody that Dortmund will hold out for the price they want, and we will be well aware of that fact.

What's a far more likely scenario is that we are working on securing funds through player sales, or indeed that Dortmund would like to line up a few purchases before the world knows they have a hundred million in their pockets, in the meantime they can posture in the media to their fans.

We can't claim Ed Woodward and the Glazers our idiots. We have years of evidence to back it as fact.
The far more likely scenario is when we make top 4 we don't spend anymore.

Or maybe its a smart move from the board and Ed to keep this saga ongoing to appease the fans and gain clicks, while clearing it up lowkey that this summer won't be like the past where we go and purchase players. We are not low balling or anything, we just knew all along that given COVID paying this price is going to be very difficult.

Ed saves the club money, Champions league football and 3rd finish from last season increases profits. I am pretty sure all shit is going to break loose again in January, when we might have an injury like we had with Pogba last season that forces us to buy a player again. And people asking the question why couldn't you get the deal done in the summer when you could have.

The ambitions of the board are very pragmatic and realistic that we are a 3,4,5 position club and let's not go for the title this season. But even if Sancho is expensive deals to improve some basic areas like LB and RW cover should be sealed without much hesitation just so that we don't fall like a house of cards if one of our first team player gets injured.

Well, things are certainly ramping up as other clubs are now mobilising and acquiring longstanding targets.

I wonder how confident we are about this - we're going to look really bad coming out of this one empty handed.

waiting til the final week to make a low ball offer making no sense at all...unless the board know something about BVB's finance we don't. According to the BVB financial calendar, the full 19/20 fiscal year report will be disclosed on next friday.

If he starts tomorrow then I’m out. Now is the perfect time to bid and have him push for a move. If that doesn’t happen then I don’t see anything changing in 2 weeks. I’ll have to go camp myself in a Traore thread instead.
He will play tomorrow, because he is contracted to Dortmund. That doesn't mean anything related to the transfer.

I agree somewhat with the bolded based on recent seasons, however chasing this target for 2 years and letting everybody involved and the fans think it will happen only for us to have no intention of making the purchase is quite absurd imo.

I'm bitterly disappointed by our lack of action in this window, I posted frequently way back before the transfer window opened about how a club of our standing should be able to make the most of this covid hit transfer window and use it to close the gap more quickly (like Chelsea are doing.) I'd still be happy with VDB and Sancho if we can get this one done. The former adds quality for rotation and the latter is the much needed improvement in our starting 11.

I'll reserve full judgement on Ed and the board until after the window closes.

The deals Chelsea have already done

Surely massive pressure on the board to do something between now and the end of the window? Otherwise Ole is being hung out to dry

I think so.

I've thought all along that Sancho will come but seeing other teams around us strengthening over the last few days may indeed light a fire under them.

Reguilon, Bale, Hojberg, Doherty to Spurs. They have had a bigger summer tbf consdering the pandemic and no CL football.

Even fecking Arsenal have signed Willian, Gabriel, extended Aubameyang. We're doing feck all. Half the premier league has outspent us this summer, after we finished 3rd and made CL to guarantee that extra money. So fecked up.

Liverpool and Chelsea I can understand.
Liverpool have been big spenders for the last four seasons now. Stadium rebuild and renovation also costs money. So it is understandable they are skint. Even then, they have signed Takumi and will sign Thiago
Chelsea have their Hazard money and transfer window ban. So they have a transfer kitty. And they go bonkers in the transfer market.

Spurs is a surprising one, they have their new Stadium and when you think they might be skint, they sign quite a lot of players this window. Doherty, Reguilon, and likely Bale too.
Even Aston Villa are spending big.

People are trying defend the Glazers from the financial point of view, seeing the likes of Spurs and Villa? Nah! Never defend those leeches who haven't put a single penny of their own money into the club.
Instead used United's own money to leverage a buy-out. Never.

Am still confident this will be done, but you really have to think that United would be working on a backup plan... surely?

But who? Costa is a no go. Bale was a none starter it seems, thankfully. Grealish has renewed, Perisic maybe? Brooks? No idea but surely we'd have to strengthen somehow

That’s what I’m hoping. Seeing our rivals strengthening all around us will hopefully force Woodward and co to stop fecking around and stump up the cash for Sancho. He’s the only signing that can redeem this transfer window for us.

Woodward has completely backed himself into a corner. All or most of the players we could have used the Sancho money on are off to other teams or not for sale. Bale and Reguilon off to Spurs, Thiago off to Liverpool, Coman and Dembele are not for sale, we rejected Costa and there is no strong interest in Telles/Perisic. If he doesn`t get Sancho there is simply no hiding from any heavy negativity he`ll be facing for years any chance he had of redeeming himself will go and even a spending spree next year when we once again finish outside the top 4 won`t be enough to remove any negative stigma already on him

We will end up paying the full 108m. It’s the Maguire deal all over again. Except Sancho is actually good at football.

The fan base is reaching “after the Burnley game” levels of anger this morning. Can’t argue with it either.

The pressure on our board and Woodward to get this signing done is going to be immense...

Are they? I've not noticed.

Would be great if we had an official platform to vent our anger publicly towards the board in the event this deal doesn't get done.

We'll get him, here's how it will happen.

Teams will be panic buying during the last week of the window. We'll offload Smalling, Rojo, Lingard and Pereira then offer Dortmund £100m, cash up front for Sancho.

I could fully understand the clubs reluctance to pay this amount on a Ronaldo or Messi, basically players right at the end of their careers, but on a 20 year old with the world at his feet?

The lad could nail down that position for the next decade.

We just need to get this done.

We can't afford it.
Oh, so that’s why we are chasing him for months (years), agreing personal terms, negotiating with the club, because we can’t afford it just like a good show around us and messing with fans, players, managers. I really hope a bunch of billionaire business men are smarter than that.

I had lost all hope on this, but now that we've been humiliated on all other fronts (reguillon, bale, thiago), I hope that the board will magically find the will to close this.
