Has all this come from a single piece in the Daily Record?

It was announced by their president that he is one of about 5 or 6 players who are untransferrable. Even ignoring that for a moment, the sort of fee Utd would want to pay, wouldn’t be the sort of fee Barcelona would be able to accept. A loan doesn’t make sense either. It’s a complete non-story, and is just to get hits. I don’t know why people read something and take it as gospel.

This seems a pretty transparent attempt to suggest to Dortmund we have alternatives...
We know the price and Dortmund aren't budging. Are we really that pathetic that we think a leak to the media will make them shiver and get on the phone to us to strike a deal?

Iirc, Bild claimed there's still a portion of the add ons due for Dortmund, and that they are supposed to receive about 20m € from a potential Dembele sale. Guess they'll be really scared about that idea...

how do we know dortmund wont budge? is it all transfers where the sellers says a price and the buyer has to accept or just this one for some extenuating circumstance?

it is still a failure of our club that we havent closed the gap, but this idea that we have to and should pay whatever is asked without negotiation is just nonsense, prices come down all the time. maguire and brunos prices both came down over time if we want to just take the most recent examples

When he's on and playing, he's one of the best sights in football. He also has the potential to be one of the greats of his generation.

Having said that, his body is made of glass, and before any issues about mentality or maturity, that is by far the biggest concern. Perhaps he does a Giggs, Robben or any other zippy wide man you can name who had trademark muscle problems as youngsters, but if he doesn't, you've got Phil Jones on the wing and you've paid a fortune for the privilege.

As a loan, of course he's a no-brainer, but any obligation to buy or anything but a massive knockdown price, I'd not go near him, especially when this outlay would rule us out of ever getting Sancho.

If he were an additional component in a strong squad who weren't dependent on him, it'd be fine, but we're one injury away from playing relegation and Championship level players when our first choice attack are unavailable. Dembele is never the player you look to to alleviate the pressure on a thin squad given he's factually the most unreliable star forward in the game.

Of course, this may well just be more cloak and dagger from our club to distract from their ineptitude this window.

What makes you think Koeman wouldn't want him after Bartomeu said he is on that list of players not for sale
I don’t see Dembele as a player Koeman will see fitting his system. Secondly, there have been constant stories on his lack of professionalism (particularly on his ability to look after himself, prepare properly, injuries etc). Lastly, Barca are in severe financial difficulty and he’s sellable asset. If they can agree a viable deal with a desperate Utd they’ll do it - irrespective of that idiot Bartomeu.

Isn't he the player addicted to video games to the point he has arrived late to training due to being up to the early hours on his Playstation, or am I confusing him for someone else?
That’s pretty much the entire youth of today

He is known for his poor time keeping and he has indeed overslept a few times. But the same thing is known about Sancho who also overslept last week.
I think you should just keep a file somewhere with the whole explanation of the gentlemans agreement he had at Rennes and stuff to leave before they backtracked it. Every time his name is mentioned somewhere you have to explain the same thing over and over again. Just copy and paste my man.

I’m not sure I believe that he is truly an option but if it is true, then a loan with an option to buy at a decent price would be good. If he stays fit and can get to the levels he was at he’d be some player for United.

A proper get you on the edge of your seat player as he is capable of the sublime.

Do you have an Esports division? You could field him there, too. Imagine the Social Media possibilities...

We certainly better options as alternatives, that is not in doubt, if we don't get fleeced then I don't see the harm in going for him to be honest.

Based on his injury history the safer bet would be to spend less money and get Sarr.

This along with his Ansu Fati nonsense means that Duncan Castles cannot be trusted at all now.

I hope we don't chase someone that doesn't want to come and get embarrassed, again.

So who do we look at next?

Perisic seems to be staying put at Inter, haven't seen much of any links to Sarr besides the dippers.

CHO might be available but doubt we'd get a fair deal from Frank.

Any talk of Costa is an instant mood killer for me

I always thought Castles had an inside line to Mourinho, but otherwise was clueless. Has that changed?

The game is up. Ed has done well for his masters, and will be getting a nice pat on the head. I doubt we'll see any more movement.

He's probably under instruction to get United fan traffic over to the Daily record website. Run a story that no one else is and you'll have thousands of desperate United fans flooding the website to see what the story is about, thereby getting lots of ad revenue.

We must have an internal PR section working for Woodward and Judge that releases these stories to journalists to make it look like they are working on deals when they arent.

He'll be about as successful with us as James Rodriguez was at Bayern Munich.

Some people never learn. BVB doesn't care at all when Sancho's contract is extended till 2023. BVB set the price and deadline for the transfer but no one take it seriously. Come back next summer and try the same trick again.

Zero chance Dembele will leave barcelona this summer.

The Ansu Fati story was created by Castles pal, Jorge Mendes, newly appointed agent of Ansu Fati who wants a new contract at Barca

Nope - he's still living off that.

Just trying to get hits for his podcast that's all it seems to be about these days.

People pretending to be transfer gurus and making money from youtube and Itunes etc.

Wow, this thread has blow up today!
It really feels like a non-story, given he's been designated as part of the few untouchables at Barcelona, so I can't see how he would all of the sudden be available unless something happened behind the scenes, and if that's the case then I don't know how comforting it is to United because it must mean something is not quite right with Ousmane. Otherwise, this just feels like a non-story designed to get clicks from United fans and to send a message to Dortmund maybe as well?

As much as I would like to see him here, because I do think he'd instantly become the most talented player in the squad, I feel he would be missing a predatory striker to really bring out the best of him and his incredible passing/crossing ability from both wings. I also don't know how happy he'd be at Manchester after such a tough spell at the club of his dream in Barcelona, but Pogba and Martial can help a bit with that.

I do think he's potentially better than Sancho, even if he's a bit older. He can do certain things that Sancho, and most players in the world, are simply incapable of doing. Unfortunately, they're able to stay on the field and he hasn't always been able to do that so that first point becomes a bit moot.

I'd definitely take this, even if it is meant as a middle finger to Dortmund - feck 'em.
If you are talking about the sell-on fee when you refer to the middle finger, I am sure Dortmund will take it no problem whatsoever.
