A thread for those legimately concerned about where we might be headed this season without the condescension and terrible arguments of the ole in crowd. Just to be clear the reason so many of us are worried is because we care. We want our club competing with the likes of bayern and madrid. We hold our club, manager and players to the highest of standards. Nobody thinks there is a magic fix or it won't be a process. We have nothing personal against Ole, will always appreciate his contributions as a player and even lifting the cloud of mourinhos negativity as a manager however like anybody that works for our club we as fans can criticize anyone we want within reason.

If we mange somehow to sign Sancho, a dm, and a lb,(very unlikely) i think we could definitely challenge for top 4. If there are no more signings except lb, it's gonna be a long season and we'll be lucky to get 65 plus points.

A team that just finished 3rd with the addition of Van De Beek, Sancho, DM and LB could "challenge" for the top 4. Well you would hope so.

I see it as a simple way to avoid what feels like the tedious back and forth between the two sets. Feel free to make other threads more positive, and this could serve to concentrate the negativity/realism however you chose to look at it.

Being negative is being realistic?

If supporters aren't worried they dont care?

Some fans feelings are not legitimate?

Fans who support Solskjaer have terrible arguments.

Bold statements...but hey crack on!

Can't decide who I dislike more. Glazers, Woodward or some of our quite frankly ridiculously spoilt and unrealistic fans.

Ole just finished top 3. 1st and 2nd were never on. Those 2 teams were and still are too good for us which is not Ole's fault. He's not been here long enough to change that. So he basically finished as best of the rest in his first full season. And let's not even start with the BS he's got to put up with above him at the club.

People calling for his head after 1 game are everything wrong with modern football fans. Who next then? Poch? A man Spurs didn't even trust to win them a league cup?

I pine for the days we return to the top again but then some times question whether a lot of our fans even deserve it. The type of fans who if born 20 years later wouldn't even be United fans.

These trying times call for a nice, refreshing blast of unmitigated misery.

That'll do it.

I am curious why you lot who have faith in the manager and think things are on track get so worked up by people who think otherwise. You could post positive things in plenty of other threads but it seems you desire some sort of conflict/self righteousness. To each their own i guess.

It’s one fluffing game with no preseason right after last fluffing season finished!

Tonight’s match may as well have been the fluffing charity shield for all the importance of it. When we meet Spurs, when the big games kick in, we will be ready. We will up our game. We were fluffing shite last season and finished 3rd.

Where we are headed? Probably top four and maybe a cup. Never mind doom and gloom thread, we need a get a grip thread!

I'll take a couple more years of failure if it guarantees we shed a few more of these whiny, joyless cnuts.

One thing I don't think many want to hear is that Van de Beek will be a huge flop. He doesn't have the pace, power or attributes to start for a top PL team. He's too slow, not enough dribbling ability and all his goals are scored through team work and findign space. We don't create that space unfortunately and he was getting beaten to the ball by Luton players, not a good sign.

Did our scouts not realize how SLOW he was?

We should have spent that money on a central defender or right winger, clearly.

Except we've been crap for 7 years now and none of those supporters you've described have left. It's because, as daft as it sounds, they actually do support the club regardless of how good we are. Sharing their concerns on a forum doesn't change that.

Managers should always be given time to finishing what they have started. But you have to show you are starting something and show progress.

definitely too early to judge him as a signing but i do agree there are some concerns. From the little i've seen, he seems like a tiki taka kinda player. Intelligent with his movement, likes his first time flicks and passes. I can see him and martial linking up pretty well. Remains to be seen how a player like that works in an ole team though.

I can live in hope. Believing they'll stick around forever is too much doom and gloom even for this thread.

Never before in the history of football a single goal had played such an important role in somebody's life. Not even in his wildest dreams Ole would have thought that goal will set his life for good. Twenty years later reins of the biggest club in the world will be handed over to him for no other reason than that goal alone.

I think it's misplaced anger if people have something to say to Ole. It's up to the board and owners to field a team that fits the manager's vision. They think they can get away with it because it's Ole.

Some of the other 125 were alright, like.

That's way too optimistic. At best we will sign Alex Telles. Expect nothing else.

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.
I was never convinced or pleased with Ole's permanent signing, wanted him gone all winter, never thought he was anywhere near good enough to manage a team of our stature.
Then when we reached the semis in the Europa I thought to myself if we win the Europa league which was very doable comparing our squad to the rest of the teams left then I would completely change my view and support him for the new season.
But we lost, didn't even reach the finals and then lost our first game at home to far inferior team after losing to Aston Villa, so I'm back to wanting him gone.

I really like what I’ve seen of him so far. His ability to find space is superb and once he settles in his teammates will start to expect the first time pass or flicks he has been trying. He seems to be really alert which makes a nice change in our team.

As for fitting in to an Ole team; our attack seems to be based around trying to create chaos rather than recognisable patterns. Bruno does a lot of what VDB does as well and has been a huge success so I think VDB will turn out alright.

The problem is the kind of hope that was present at the end of last season is a little bit killed by the terrible market and Palace loss. Now it just feels like it will be yet again another season of top 4 race and hoping to win a domestic cup. It might very well end up being 4th place and trophyless season again.
