Anyone understand why we bought van de Beek?

2 games into the season and we are questioning why we bought player to strengthen our squad.

Certainly
1. Squad depth (midfield).
2. CAM 2nd choice, no more Lingard, Mata and Pereira there.
3. Bruno cover and rotation.

Question marks
4. Potential future CDM?
5. Back-up plan Pogba leaving?

Because he’s better than any of our attacking midfield options other than Bruno and Pogba.

Squad depth, rotation, competition for places..

We've played 2 premier league games and you're asking this question? Really? fecksake

We're two games into the season, FFS.

He will be a starter for us soon enough.

I don't think he will be a starter unless he is replacing Bruno. That's clearly his best position and while he seems a good player, he doesn't appear to have Bruno's vision or passing inclination.

To come in for our midfielders when they’re either injured or playing like tossers. He’ll start the next league game.

If he wasn’t here then our alternative would be Pereira. It’s obvious, really.

1. rotate between Pogba, Bruno. Unless you think Bruno can play 60 games a season.
2. Eventually sell Pogba

Sell him so we can have Daniel James back on the bench.

Needs to replace Pogba ASAP. Might not be a clean swap, but he would offer more right now than Pogba as a starter.

I was just as baffled. He's not a backup; he's a genuine starter especially in a team like ours lacking mobility in midfield. So if Ole got him then he must fit him in starting eleven or drop Pogba.

We may have resigned ourselves to losing Pogba over the next 12 months or so, in which case the signing makes perfect sense.
The signing makes perfect sense even if Pogba is staying.

If we didn’t have VDB, we would have had Lingard coming on today. VDB won the corner.

Errrm so those mf-players we had on the field today were all better than him. Seems he's lower down the pecking order than Fred FFS!
Another thread to have a pop at Fred. You certainly are creative with them.

He's pogba's eventual replacement and for once it's incredibly good sense in acting when the need was not dire.

Because we want quality depth. For example when Pogba is not in form like today, Van De Beek should start. But Ole being a bit weird, when his starters aren't medically unable to play he seems to have no intention to use other players.

You seriously can’t be naive enough to wonder why we bought him? It’s the same reason Liverpool have spent 43m euros on a substitute.
But pool are league champs and probably in top 2 or 3 in Europe. Their first 11 is very strong. Utds isn't as strong as theirs. Surely utd should be strengthen first 11,positions that are weak. Left back or right wing before adding a midfielder.a position we are well stocked in already. Squad depth can only be achieved after you are happy with the first 11 imo. Donny is a good player though, pogs had been very poor.

Caf at its fecking best, isn't it

As if it should be baffling to have depth. Same people going around with threads like these are probably the same ones who've cried about depth before.
