Are (some) Manchester United players out of control?

We lack some professionalism, you see it on the pitch as well. All these "we work hard" quotes and yet they don't show much. But this has been an issue for a while, those private "scandals" are just a continuation

Are you the ref?
I'm not condemning Mason Greenwood (or the others for that matter) from a moral point of view. What he did is legal and to an extent understandable.

My issue is it shows a poor of professional attitude, and it's not the mentality you'd want to see from a talented young player. What sets the likes of Ronaldo and Messi from, let's say Rooney, is the dedication and focus they approach their career with. Talented players are a dime a dozen, and attitude is what separates the greats from the "what ifs"*

Regarding the examples you gave, times have changed. The level of conditioning and attitude required by top level players is a lot higher than it used to be. Players are huge investments, and the stakes have never been higher for their clubs and for themselves.

He could have debuted for his country, perhaps scored and covered himself in glory, rather than this. He has, however, apologized, and hopefully it's a lesson well learned.

All that said, he is free to make his own choices and reap the benefits or consequences, and can not live his life according to other people's expectations. We're just rooting for him and would like to see him be the best he can be.

*Not saying Rooney didn't do well, but if he were more disciplined I believe he would have had a Balon D'Or or two, and could still be playing at the highest level.
I agree with all of this.

To suggest the players are out of control is taking things too far, i feel you have looked into a few isolated incidents far too much.

Maguire getting arrested, Greenwood getting kicked out of the England squad, AWB going to Dubai.

Is it time tough questions were asked of Ole and his coaching staff?

Ole is getting blamed for all sorts-crazy!! A narrow & slightly biased perspective i'm afraid to say.

I get the point your making around being disciplined but I don't think Rooney or Greenwood are a dime a dozen. On the fitness and dedication front Ronaldo is the extreme but Rooney was smoking fags and had a terrible diet by all accounts.

If it is just the odd drink and a bit of partying it's not such a big deal and if the rumours are true he'll need to knock it on the head.

I reckon Rooney could still be playing at the highest level if he'd just looked after himself.

*Insert the video of the guy who thanked both to his wife & girlfriend in post match interview*

Is it a coincidence that it came after he scored for the first time on the pitch? Must be hanging around with Martial too much recently. Didn't Tony also cheat on his wife and dump her while she's pregnant? Too bad Giggs is not around to teach them how to take their game to the next level though.

Seriously though, I wish we had someone like Keane or an authority figure to put these idiots to their place. Our players are too comfortable with their actions; it'll be a circus in the long term.

Yeah, a dime a dozen is a bit hyperbolic but we've had so many talents, even here at united that haven't lived up to early promise for one reason or another.

From extreme examples like Ravel Morrison, Januzaj, Macheda and Anderson, to players who have had very good careers but underwhelming when considering potential and expectation (Nani, Pogba, Martial, etc).

I don't think it's just about taking care of yourself, or how you eat or drink. It's about really, really wanting to be the best and realizing there's always room for improvement and be willing to sacrifice ego, comfort and pleasure to get there. For a player to consistently put in great performances for ninety minutes week in, week out speaks of amazing sacrifice and effort to stay in peak physical and mental condition .

Of course not all players will be so motivated, or will want that, so in a way that's just us fans being too demanding and selfish.

Yeah I'd agree with that. Isn't that why so many talented kids don't make it?

If I had that talent and that amount of money at 18, I'm not sure I'd be sitting at home eating my greens and going to bed at 10pm like a good little boy.

At this point the players bring it on themselves. Literally just keep your dick in your pants and stay faithful to your partner , plus, most of these IG girls practically live for drama and maintain relevancy by being talked about by these gossip blogs like TheShadeRoom and UKGossipTV so they’ll air out their own dirty laundry just to spite the guy that they’re seeing/messing with or whatever. The girl he cheated with even has a track record of messy behaviour during the period that she was dating Swae Lee. It’s not worth it.

I think he’s saying it’s a fake account. Marlie is the real one; Marlieie appears to be the catfish account.

If the players are deemed to be 'out of control' then maybe Ole and the club management need to bring in some old fashioned 'company punishment' penalties when players individually or collectively detract from official requirements. If one player 'fecks up' they all suffer; docked a months pay, extra training, days off cancelled, extra duties in the community, whatever. It is always seems unfair to punish many for the sins of one, but it can strengthen a group/bind the ties' etc. and get them through the 'forming'/storming'/'norming'/'performing' performance development cycle in double quick time.

Admittedly it is a risk in this day and age with all the pc issues, the pampering, the interference by agents, family, etc. but it can help to identify the true leaders in the group!

You do realize that we haven't heard his side of the story yet, right? Too early to judge and it's a young man and women, relationshit happens.

We've seen so many women do this to footballers, its not like it was non consensual, just want some publicity and money.

As you can see with the Greenwood nonsense yesterday, there's a certain group of fans absolutely desperate to jump on any perceived negative news about United so they can unload their chip on the shoulder about the club/players.

You're not wrong. And you're probably alluding to the time SAF did something similar. Or at least the one time I'm thinking of.

The good thing about weeding out the problem players and building a squad full of the right personalities is that you end up almost never having to do this; the players keep each other in check. That's the 'culture' thing.

One of our best players of all time was shagging his brothers wife.

Scummy move from AWB but it has f*ck all to do with us. As long as it doesn't effect what happens on the pitch I couldn't care less what he gets upto in his own time.

Honestly think the majority of posters live in some delusional world where all the young players earning mega bucks behave themselves.

The one thing that worries me is that Lingard will take offence to AWB sleeping with his ex and it might really affect Jesse’s performances.
