You’re entitled to your opinion, so I’m not gonna call you wrong, I am going to ask though - what is exciting about playing 5 defenders & 2 defensive midfielders? We are clearly setting up to keep them out & play long balls to the forwards. United playing like a small club doesn’t scream exciting to me. Just shows how far we’ve fallen.
Manchester United is all about winning, not about trying to be “flavor of the week” regarding play style.

Apart from PSG’s front line we are evenly enough matched, need a big defensive performance and Rashford firing on all cylinders.

Looking forward to it should be a good game..

Looking at their midfield I think Ole may have misread this. We could have competed with them. Going ultra defensive seems like a cowardly move to me. They really aren’t all that. Way too much respect shown to average players like Herrera, Guaye & Pereira
Absolutely, he gave up the midfield to them when they don't have much quality there, they won't have any trouble now getting the ball to their 3 world class forwards while McTominay and Fred keep chasing shadows.

Well we have fallen so I don’t see what your bid issue is.

wr are also slowly but surely climbing back up again and that takes abit of time

lastly, even SAF during his heyday would show respect to last years finalists.

put simply stop moaning without any justification

I’m gonna reserve judgement on this team, on paper it’s not that exciting but if we’re in the game at 70 minutes and we throw Pogba and VDB on and win the game then I will name my next cat Ole!

In big games like this, where there's potential for it to be tight and tactical and the first XI's settling into a stalemate, it's important we have a strong bench and I'm glad to see ours is stronger than PSG's, last year's runner-up in the competition.

    This isnt ultra defensive.

We hardly got a single world class CB. We have adapted to provide cover with that and add attacking gameplay from Bruno, Telles, martial and Rashford.

Van de Beek is not as good as the CM we have. The guy is an attacking midfielder who wants to play within the attacking line.

The only way such a role will work for him is if we drop Bruno in to CM like he plays for Portugal & it's way too early to be making such a move for the first time in the CL vs PSG.

Big game for mctominay and Fred. Stay in the game then we can bring Pogba, vdb from the bench. Will possibly shift to a back four if we keep the game close until 60 min.
    Finally!

The tactical plan is clear: work hard and drain them, and then bring in the creativity once they are tiring.

Let's see if it works out.

Also, Pogba being benched; he should be fired up when he comes on and determined to make an impression.

That line up shows the coward ogs has fast become and smacks of the defeatists attitude that proves to his haters from day 1, he is not the one to take us forward.

Generally I’m not a big fan of the 5 at the back but do people seriously want a CB pairing of Tuanzebe and Lindelof, that would be suicide. Playing stupid lineup doesn’t make you an adventurous manager, it makes you naive!

Yep, he played Danny fecking Welbeck over Rooney in our last UCL tie under him, I've never agreed with managers so arrogant that they play the same way regardless of the opposition. A good result tonight and we'll be well placed to qualify from this group of death

I honestly can't tell which way this is going to go. It looks like it's going to be a tight game, but we'll see. Would be delighted if we could nick the game 0-1 or 0-2. A good result here could be such a fantastic confidence booster.

Will be nice to see what Telles has to offer tonight, looking forward to that.

Great to see Pogba on the bench for a big game as well, looks like Ole is learning after all and now going with a more balanced team opposed to trying to shoehorn him in.

I got it wrong, I thought we're playing 4-2-3-1 with MMM trio up front. I must've read the wrong post.

people have already forgotten that we would have been down 2-1 at st. James' Park with Fred&McTom after 50 minutes, had it not been for DDG's miracle save. Only started being fluid with Paul and vdB.
If we lose 4-1 today then OGS should be sacked immediately. against Florenzi, Diallo, Kimpembe (c), Kurzawa - Herrera, Pereira, Gueye ; with a back 5 there are absolutely no reasons to start Fred or McTom ahead of Paul Pogba. It is ridiculous.

Ah the hypocrites are running rife tonight.

I'm fine with us going defensive for this considering how poor we've been this season. It's always been the reason we've had to but united way etc.

Give it a rest ffs we haven’t even kicked a ball yet and we’re up against £400m worth of attacking talent

In 2 hours this one will either be a masterclass or an example of everything wrong with OGS

I've made the mistake of watching the matchday thread and now I've got this morbid obsession of reading through every asinine comment like this. Some of these don't even sound like they are fans. Hope players don't take this sort of thing to heart.

Nonsense, he is aiming to control the midfield battle to minimize the impact of Neymar and Mbappe, drain their energy, and roll on VDB and Pogba for the last 30mins to dictate the tempo and kill off a tired PSG midfield/team. We need that defensive cover anyway, imagine playing an attacking midfield of VDB, Pogba, and Bruno...would smack of kamikaze. I think Ole has got this spot on.

I will go for a scrapped 1-1. Not going to be pretty but we might be effective tonight on the break. Its the back 3 thats going to be the slight worry.

Ole said it was his biggest test!
    Then it's unanimous!!!

I think we saw a lesser preview of this at Newcastle. The lineup is good to keep PSG's outstanding front line at bay for much of the match. We have good subs with pace on the bench to hit them after the first hour.

Really feeling good about this, if the players show up.

Seems to be a lot of overreaction to VDB on the bench. Given the formation he doesn't have an obvious role, McTom and Fred are being picked as a unit and he can't really argue he should be in the side ahead of Bruno at this point. He might well prove to be good in a midfield pivot behind Bruno but McTom and Fred have a track record from last year of functioning well together and this is not the game to experiment. I fully expect VDB to start a lot of games this year against teams we are expected to dominate, his movement and creativity will be critical for breaking down the likes of Burnley. The idea that only being on the bench after 1 month is indicative of Ole not wanting him is laughable hysteria.
    Exactly this. Well said

Ole is a coward for going with 3 at the back when 2 of our 3 first choice CBs are out.... And not playing the "leader" Paul Pogba is the worst decision of Ole's career... This place is on fire tonight!

At this stage, there's no point getting vastly negative about this lineup until we see how the game flows and what happens on the pitch. We've seen it too many times before where the lineup looks alright/good and the performance has been underwhelming, or we've had the opposite. I wasn't massively keen on the starting lineup in the last game, but the subs made a huge difference and the overall performance was good/great.

Take it as it comes. If Ole has got this massively wrong and we get pumped 5-0, then we can criticise him at full time. Let's just see how the first part goes before we write him off.

Honestly a draw against PSG away wouldn't be bad. It would be a good point to get.

Pogba has been shocking since the restart if anything it is a strong move from Ole..
