Thought he was really good. Could have conceded a penalty but Azpi knew what he was doing. His long passing was good today as well.
He had him in a headlock... it was a blatant pen tbf. Worked out for us though.Too soft for penalty to me. Just because he put his arm around Azpi doesn’t mean there is any forces to bring him down.
We had a couple of similar incidents in Chelsea box before- but ref let play go on. There were plenty of shirt pulling and pushing incidents throughout the gameThe penalty incident was very poor and was lucky to escape unpunished in it. However, rest of the game was really good. Made several good interceptions as well. Nice.
Too soft you say? He was very lucky to not concede a penalty, and may be even a red card.Too soft for penalty to me. Just because he put his arm around Azpi doesn’t mean there is any forces to bring him down.
*Facepalm*Good to see this thread so far down. Looks back to his normal level now.
Was never a pen, and calm and assured all game, like v Newcastle.
Maguire is 6ft 4 and Azpi 5ft 10. Azpi was leaning into him and screaming. It’s hard for Maguire to stand up tall and head the ball without having his hands over him whilst the much smaller man is behaving as Azpi was. It could have been a pen but Azpi knew what he was doing. He had him in a headlock... it was a blatant pen tbf. Worked out for us though.

I have seen many times from other football matches what Maguire did not being given. Even a red card is more laughable.Too soft you say? He was very lucky to not concede a penalty, and may be even a red card.

Such low standards. How could he have had his best game when Chelsea hardly threatened anything? Lindelof was even the better defender today. He had his best game today for me, excluding the calamitous headlock.
Otherwise he was everywhere. Covered for both Lindelof and Shaw a few times.
Low standards? Read what I said again.Such low standards. How could he have had his best game when Chelsea hardly threatened anything? Lindelof was even the better defender today.
Maybe they hardly threatened because our centre backs did well?Such low standards. How could he have had his best game when Chelsea hardly threatened anything? Lindelof was even the better defender today.
Our centre backs are so good that we have to castrate our midfield and play two workhorses in there to cover for them!Maybe they hardly threatened because our centre backs did well?
This is like when fans say "what do players do all week" when they're not playing well, forgetting there's another team stopping them.
Best game since joining or best game this season? The former definitely no, the latter definitely yes.Low standards? Read what I said again.
I didn't say he was fantastic, or very good, or World Class. I said he had HIS best game.
He covered for an out of position Lindelof a few times in the first half and a few times for Shaw in the second and didn't shy away or seem unsure as he has seemed recently. So he had a decent game where I didn't feel he was going to make a mistake.
Hence, why I said, in terms of Harry Maguire, I feel that was Harry Maguire's best game. :/
Don't Liverpool play 3 work horse centre mids, even though they have the best defender in world history? Our centre backs are so good that we have to castrate our midfield and play two workhorses in there to cover for them!
Fans like this are quite embarrassing - clean sheet. feck upSo lucky. And the other one where Chelsea had counter Lindeloff was covering their attacker while he was covering Lindeloff
Thank god Chelsea didn't see that hole

You must be so disappointed that he didn’t concede a soft penalty in that occasion. So lucky. And the other one where Chelsea had counter Lindeloff was covering their attacker while he was covering Lindeloff

Just perplexed by comments like this, are you actually serious? Is your TV really small? He wraps both (!) hands around the player and obviously uses him as a springboard to jump himself to clear the ball. It’s quite telling as Azpi is jumping exactly 0 cm in the air. Stonewall penalty and a huge mistake by VAR, this time going in our favor. This is the kind of situation where you would claim 100% it’s a penalty if it’s Zouma on Fernandes.Too soft for penalty to me. Just because he put his arm around Azpi doesn’t mean there is any forces to bring him down.
What does that have to do with what I posted? Why does any critique of us need to be compared with what another team does? Obviously if you have your full-backs going in the opposition's box often then you need extra protection from the midfield, but it's not as if this insertion of an extra defensive midfielder has anything to do with our full-backs being instructed to be way more attacking, does it?Don't Liverpool play 3 work horse centre mids, even though they have the best defender in world history?
He actually covered Lindelöf instead of their right attacker when Werner got through on the left, got lucky with that piece of bad defending. Oh, I see someone just brought it up before I posted this one. Thanks for the video, it’s clear to see. One has to wonder why he decides to defend the ballcarrier instead of the room....He had his best game today for me, excluding the calamitous headlock.
Otherwise he was everywhere. Covered for both Lindelof and Shaw a few times.
Solid analysis.Fans like this are quite embarrassing - clean sheet. feck up
He did exactly as he was supposed to do. He had to cover Lindeloff first. If Lindeloff slips the Chelsea player would have had a clean run at goal. If the Chelsea player had looked to switch across to the other side then 2 things come into play. Firstly that pass has to be good, secondly during the balls transition across and subsequent attackers control of the pass there is a small window of time for Magurie or others to close some space even if its only a small amount. So the choice is cover the nearest danger and play the odds of a switched ball being good or else leave lindeloff, cover the outside attacker giving no close cover to lindeloff or DDG. Every coach on the planet wants cover on the nearest danger. You have this completely wrong. So lucky. And the other one where Chelsea had counter Lindeloff was covering their attacker while he was covering Lindeloff
Thank god Chelsea didn't see that hole

Because you're trying to find any reason to discredit Maguire, and it's just not needed today. What does that have to do with what I posted? Why does any critique of us need to be compared with what another team does? He literally uses both hands to hold him down in the same place whilst conveniently using him to create a better jump for himself. Rashford was barely touched, it’s a contact sport. Learn the rules, please, same goes for VAR.He took a risk with Azpilicueta but not enough for a penalty IMO as he didn’t move him. More is being if it because it’s Maguire. The Rashford one is quietly being ignored amidst all the Thiago Silva praise.
They always say that people won't change their minds once they are set, irrespective of facts.Really amazed by some comments here. I'm no fan of Maguire but he was bloody excellent today barring that headlock (he's just a clumsy player so one error per game is a given). He made some excellent interceptions and against his natural instinct of taking ten touches he kept the ball moving at pace.
Was expecting some white text here you left such a huge gap under your post!A rock tonight
You can't always get a clean header in. Chances are you will at times hold/touch opponents when leaping. He literally uses both hands to hold him down in the same place whilst conveniently using him to create a better jump for himself. Rashford was barely touched, it’s a contact sport. Learn the rules, please, same goes for VAR.
Barely touched? That’s why Rashford was limping for minutes afterwards I suppose. Maguire put his arms around him but didn’t impede his movement who was still able to get off the ground. The correct decision was just about made.He literally uses both hands to hold him down in the same place whilst conveniently using him to create a better jump for himself. Rashford was barely touched, it’s a contact sport. Learn the rules, please, same goes for VAR.
