It’s good for my mental health to stay away from the match day thread.

how can anyone explain wanting your team to lose or drop points in order to try and prove your point on an Internet forum?

these aren’t fans. Just because you don’t like the manager doesn’t mean you should want the team not to win.
That is not what they are saying. They are saying that they want the team to lose so Ole gets the sack. They want Ole sacked because they don't think he can take us forward and persisting with him is just wasting this season. It is like losing a battle to win the overall war.

Their recruitment has been excellent for the last 5 years. Ours has been terrible until the last 18 months. Players win you games. Not managers
Fergie says hi. Fergie then watches Moyes first season and says hi again.

just clarifying.

The inconsistency of the team is concerning but (giving him the benefit of the doubt a bit), we had no real pre season and a lot of games. If we blame Ole (rightly, along with the players) for games like Istanbul, we have to give him some praise for PSG, Leipzig.

We're in a rough CL group and likely to come through. We're 7 games into the PL season. He's moved some players out that most fans wanted out. His buys have been mixed. He's brought Brandon and Greenwood into the squad properly and Tuanzebe post injury (other managers wouldn't have?). The play (when it works) is good to watch.

He possibly has a blind spot on a couple of players. His coaching....? none of us really know as we don't see it.

For me, on balance, there's enough to earn the rest of this season unless we get knocked out of this CL group and don't pick up in league. A CL last 8 and/or top.4 and/or a cup trophy would probably see him into next season.
I agree. But those Istanbul performances really grind you down.

I still think he has to get rid of Pogba and needs a new CB and RW and a covering MF because Matic is getting old.

Hindsight is a great thing but reality was both Mane and Salah weren't world class when they signed (just check the threads here). They were just good. Hendo was just an average midfielder. Milner, Lallana, Clyne were just overrated players. Firminho just had a normal season in Bundesliga.

He improved all of them 10 fold and formed a team, created a style. When you create a style the consistency automatically follows and that happened in his first full season (74 points).
You don't need to be great player to fit a certain style of football. Those players you mention were all good players. No world beaters but good players. Some of them very underrated, like Milner and Firminho, for those who watched Bundesliga. Nobody is denying what Klopp did. But what is the point. It is that he showed progress and he was given time. Not one year. Not two. But four years before he fought for trophies.

Yes. And for further clarification, it is because they are willing to suffer the sadness of a few defeats for the ultimate betterment of the club. Losing a battle to win the war.

glad we have clarified that we have a proportion of fans who actively want us to lose. Who were presumably celebrating when Everton scored.

Can you just imagine being a United fan, and actually being annoyed that we came back and won, and being a United fan that was frustrated that Cavani scored because an Everton equaliser in the last minute would have meant you could rant on an Internet forum for the next two week before the next game.

it must be so annoying watching your team win.

Counter attack FC, we have been fooled before. You just knew Ole would pull this result out today before an international break. It's prolonging the inevitable, it's so frustrating because I really like the man. I know losing today would have sealed it, short term pain for long term gain. Poch won't be around forever.

Improvements is points on board and implementing a style of play which we haven't seen with Ole till now.

Klopp finished on 64 points the season Rodgers was sacked. Ole finished on 66 points the season Jose was sacked.

Klopp improved his tally to 75 next year. Ole stayed on 66 despite spending more.

We are on third season now and Klopp finished on 75 points again. Do you think Ole will get us 75+ points this year ? Because 66 points ain't getting us top 6 let alone top 4 this year.

The funny thing is they were desperate for us to lose but even if we had he most likely wouldn't have been sacked anyway.

Lets agree that we disagree on improvement and style. I can see it. You, I guess, not.
For me, points are pointless to compare from year to year. Every year is different. One year, every team can be good. The other, every team can be bad. What is important for me is progress and position.

Klopp is a brilliant manager. I wish he was our manager. But he isn’t. And let’s not pretend Mane and Salah were less than excellent when he bought them. And let’s not exaggerate for the sake of it. Several players have improved under him but not ten fold and who says they wouldn’t have improved under Ole or anyone else?

Style-wise, they press. Big wow. The rest is about having good players. The front three are very important but VVD and the keeper were the rather expensive signings that made the difference between losing and winning.

I’d take Klopp over Ole any day of the week but it’s not a useful or fair comparison at this point.

Ok, let me ask you a straightforward question. Whats a successful season this year for you ? At what point would you think Ole won't make it ?

I don't want him sacked now for the reason I feel getting Poch is going to be a mistake. If we sack Ole now it's sure Woodward is going to hire Poch. I feel Rose or Nagelsmann should be the next manager. I have not seen enough of Hasenhuttl to comment on him.

All disagreed. He signed fecking Caulker on loan and still got results. Mane and Salah weren't good enough for us (atleast as per the majority).

If pressing is the only thing that you see as an improvement in the Liverpool team, then let's stop the discussion here. Its not worth it.

There are a host of memes about the world celebrating an Ole win so we keep him longer and be a mediocre club.

I mean I get its banter and that but it shows where we are with him right now. It's not knee jerk to suggest that either because it's been 2 fecking years and 200m plus spent.

Even Jose, a man who can alienate a dressing room quicker than Fox News can announce Arizona, took us to 81 points.

He has a shit ton of quality in this squad and I'm expecting way, way fecking more than a win for a few games and then a few losses/draws.

Then why do people keep doing it and continuously mentioning Klopp when they want to defend Ole ? I honestly see no point of this comparison at all. It's ridiculous actually. I don't even think people who're making it are actually believing themselves. People can say Ole is good long term in their opinion without mentioning how Liverpool board dealt with Klopp and what his record was etc.

Klopp was already a top manager before getting the Liverpool job.

I wonder if we'll top the 25 points we had going into Christmas day last year? That was our lowest points total at Christmas since the late 80's, Moyes had more points by that stage. We need 15 points from 6 games to equal it.
Christmas is usually 17-18 games. This year it will be 13 games. Completely useless ‘stat’.

Caulker played one FA cup game (a 0-0 draw with West Ham) and 3 minutes in the league (a loss, a draw and a win).

I think if Ole is to go and if the rumours of contact with Pochetino are true then let's do it now after a good win.

I know it's not normal to sack a manager after a win and probably never done before. But Ole is a legend and for me him leaving on a plus is way better than another run of bad form and him leaving.
My memory may fail me, but didn't we fire some bloke right after an FA cup victory?

My bad, didn't even think about the delay. Just had a look at it was 25 points from 18 games last year, how he survived that I'll never know!

Just shows how reluctant Woodward is to sack Ole because he knows how bad it'll look for him. He's made a rod for his own back because he's effectively put all his chips down on Ole and it's going to fail.

I don’t know why they do. But if anyone expects Ole to achieve what Klopp has done he will need some better players and more time to stand a chance. In any case, if Ole gets any success it will be doing it his way not by trying to be Klopp.

Another thing about the Klopp comparisons is that people think if we sack Ole we can replace him with someone as good as Klopp (why not Klopp himself?) as if that is easy or even possible.

Thankfully he did survive when so many here would have sacked him and were proven massively wrong by the end of the season.

your last point is one of the key questions that we should keep asking those who want to get rid of the manager.

1. what else did you realistically expect under the manager, remembering what he took over?

2. who else is there who is going to come in and guarantee to do a better job?

I still find it interesting how the first reaction of some supporters after a win is to enter one of these threads to write things like: "This changes nothing! I'm still Ole out!!!"

It's even more interesting that some of these posters claimed that the smart, elite coach Ancelotti wouldn't fall for Ole's "naive" or "predictable" tactics. I guess he'll have to be put in the same box as all the other elite managers that struggle when facing Ole.

I've felt for ages we need a good, physical, mobile defensive mid.

Especially with this team as I want Bruno and the forwards focussing on attacking and having the confidence to leave the defence/defensive mid alone.

Like Partey.

Not aiming this at you but I am sick of reading about klopp and how you could “see what he was trying to do” or his “style of play” it’s absolute bollocks. They had potential, they where hit and miss then they spent massive on a keeper and VVD. Surprise surprise they become really good. They won’t be as good this year without VVD I assure you. All I could see prior to these signings was celebrating draws with West Brom
Agreed.

Also he changed his style of play from gung ho relentless heavy metal attacking constant press to a safety first style involving pressing mixed with conserving energy and pushing his full backs up. I think it's overly reductive to say it was clear right away what he was trying to do even when he wasn't getting results.

I think what posters actually mean when they say 'you could see what he was trying to do from day 1' is that he at least brought entertainment and a feel good factor. But Klopp at Liverpool is really the perfect example of the rewards of having a well structured club, showing faith in a manager, identifying and fixing areas of weakness through recruitment and evolving your style of play to address limitations.

feck knows what Ole would achieve if he was at a well run club with a competent structure, but success requires more than just a good manager. This myth of genius managers coming in and coaching a team of Sunday leaguers to be world beaters through tactical ingenuity and man management is for the birds.

It was a good win and takes pressure off at least until the next bad run of form.

Ole needs to forget about trying to play good attacking football and pretending he’s building something and stick to his simple and cautious way of playing. It may be enough to scrape into the top four with individual talent we have, it’s not good for club long term if we genuinely want to progress and we could do much better but that’s how club operates.

It's a sack thread. People will discuss whether they think he should still be sacked or not here.

I've just read on BBC that Ole's won more games in his first 100 games managing United than Jurgen Klopp did for Liverpool (and then followed the thread of the convo here)

That's really weird as it doesn't appear that way at all. Everything changed after VVD though
